Question about charter arms bulldog 44.

Hey I have a gun related question. Didn't know where else on Reddit to ask. I'm picking up a first gen charger arms bulldog 44 tomorrow and when I was looking at it in the shop, this particular model released the cylinder by both pressing a thumb piece as well as pulling the ejector rod. It says on Wikipedia That's a feature that was only on the first production model. But I haven't been seen that anywhere else online. Is there something wrong with the thumb piece or is that an actual feature? Anyway, if anyone can answer this I'd appreciate it.

I have an early Bulldog and you can release it either way, thumb latch or pulling the ejector rod forward. Normal feature.
Actually they all work that way, its just that you can't do it on the ones with shrouded ejector rods because you can't grab it. If you milled off the shroud or something, it would still work.

That's how it worked with my grandpa's undercover 38. When I first shot it you could open the cylinder with just the release, but it developed an issue where that wouldn't move the ejection rod far enough forward to release the cyliner. So Id have to pull on the (unshrouded) ejection rod to release the cylinder instead.

If I recall correctly, that particular handgun had some notoriety as it was used by the “Son of Sam” serial killer. I handled one rather briefly back then and fired a few rounds…. Pretty decent choice for a concealable revolver.

I had an old charter arms undercover made in the first factory location (I cannot remember the marking but I researched it and it was an old one). The part of the cylinder pin that protruded past the crane had a threaded end with a cap. This secured as small spring loaded tube that also locked into the frame. So the cylinder was locked at both front and back. I cannot remember if you could simply pull on this piece and unlock both the front and back but it seems plausible.
