I still have the same boombox I bought in 1994 when I was 21.

I played so much music on this and still listen to it sometimes if I'm feeling nostalgic lol.

I dug my ~1982 JVC turntable out of the closet last year. It's been stored in various garages, barns and basements since at least '96. Cleaned up the dried up grease and got a new belt (original dry rotted). Still works like it used to.

I wore the cassette deck out on mine 😂

If it ain't broke...
Practical_Wind_1917@reddit
wow, how is that thing still even working?

Yea it's crazy, it's just a totally average early 90s boombox, but they must have used really good rubber for the tape belts.

Nice rig!

I still have the Sony boombox my parents bought me in 1988 for me to take to college. It has two tape decks and a CD on top. It is in my garage and I still play CDs on it when I'm out there working. The tape deck still worked the last time that I tried, but that might have been 15 years ago.
My wife asks me every year or two when I'm going to get rid of it.

My most prized possession is my 1981 Rickenbacker 330 electric guitar I bought for $500 of my paper route money when I was 15. I've left it in my will to my son.

When I was a kid, I used to go to the stereo section and push the eject button on all of the stereos. If it popped out really fast, it meant it was cheap. If it came out really slow, it was more valuable. At least that was my interpretation at the time.

Sanyo! Now there’s a name I haven’t seen in a while.

There is no conceivable way that tape player still works.
StOnEy333@reddit
The first thing I thought of was the tape player. I wonder if there’s a tape in there.
genialerarchitekt@reddit (OP)
There is indeed haha.

Actually it does! Lol. It still plays and even records fine, belts never replaced. Amazing, I know.

I bet it sounds so much better than the garbage they sell these days

I have my 2001 version, to bad only the radio still works.

I gave mine to a buddy of mine. He trashed it.

If you like audiobooks check out your local library which will most likely still have a lot of books on tapes.
