IIRC, his pants just ripped along the seams, if you look close, David’s pants were still ripped, it just wasn’t obvious as they dem all the way to his feet in human form rather than to his knees. You could also see the green slippers Lou sometimes wore if you looked closely.
He was in an episode of the original Night Court--he played a wrestler who ended up before Harry because a woman climbed into the ring and started smacking him with her purse (she was a fan of his opponent or something). Lou was wearing slacks and a long coat and at one point, he asked if he could take the coat off because it was warm in the courtroom.
For perfect verisimilitude they should have ended each episode with him walking sadly away from the town that could have been his new home, with his full dick and balls out.
My grandpa (step grandpa) worked at GE - and did well financially, though having a modest home. Anyway, he upgraded his TV on a regular basis. Watching the Incredible Hulk on a large screen back in the day was epic. My dad hated TV, so best I could do was a 12" B&W, so when Banner got angry, it wasn't quite the same.
It freaked me out, too, at that age! Loved the show otherwise, so I'd ask my mom to tell me when the scary part (the transformation from Banner to Hulk) was over, and then I'd go back to watching it.
That was scary for me, too! Glad I’m not the only one. It also upset me that the Hulk scenes always seemed to be in slow motion. The uncanniness was too much for my young brain to process.
Whatever. I was too young to be in the target audience anyway.
I like to think some inbred racist picks him up one day. Bruce fights through his anger listening about chemtrails and gay frogs trying to destroy "whyte powur". Then the guy lights up a cigarette and his truck gets thrown over the mountain.
Am I the only one who has always wanted to see what's in the bag? ^*hugebagofweed
This guy and Kwai Chang Caine from Kung Fu. I'm always interested in how others do their ultra-light camping, and these two had the lightest rigs I've ever seen.
Every Friday this was on at 8 p.m. On the other network was The Dukes of Hazzard. My brother liked that show, I liked The Incredible Hulk. We alternated each Friday watching our favorites. The thing is, I didn't hate Hazzard, I just liked Hulk better.
That Duffle bag was so much bigger on the inside than it looked. As a kid it made me aware of just how many laundry lines were actually used by households of the time..
I gotta say! This sub is the best for us born in the 60s and 70s. So many memories growing up, to be captured here, have been amazing! May we keep our minds and hearts young! Thank you!
The great thing about it that other than the few things that make it obvious it’s set in the late 70s/early 80s, it really still holds up to this day. You could do a modern remake and all you’d have to do is change a few background details.
The end of EVERY episode was so sad.
He walks out of town, and the sad ass music starts, pulls the collar on the jacket up, puts the thumb out for a ride, cars passes turn around and heads to the next town.
I don't know how they did it but just that part was damn near heartbreaking.
That's got to be Bill Bixby, who shouldn't have had to play a character named Bruce Banner because honestly his real name was the best alliterative Marvel comic book character name ever.
watched with my then 6 year old step son and he loved it. watched every episode plus the telefilms
i love this format like hwy to heaven and littlest hobo etc.
According to the Hulk himself, Lou Ferrigno, yes it's true. The studio executives didn't think the name Bruce was masculine enough and so they made the production change his name to David Bruce Banner
Wow. Guess my dad heard the same thing. I remember having a conversation with him about it. And I said, “what about Bruce Jenner?” He said, “there’s an exception to every rule,” or something like that. But… um.. 😆
"...so I had all of that sort of Victor Hugo story in my head and I realized now there was a way to take a little bit of Victor Hugo, a little bit of Robert Louis Stevenson, and this ludicrous thing called The Incredible Hulk and turn it into a serious psychological adult drama. I wanted it to not be comic booky in any way."
I once read an issue of MAD with a TIH parody and one of the bits was someone saying “why are people calling you David? I thought your name was Bruce” and he replied “the TV execs said the name Bruce wasn’t manly enough so now I’m David” and meanwhile there’s a TV in the background saying “and Bruce Jenner wins the decathlon! Bruce is the best male athlete in the world!” and, well, that took a turn
Related memory that just popped up: They filmed an episode in my elementary school’s gym and Lou Ferrigmo had to stand on a crate to tower over the other actor in the scene. But that can’t be right because LF was really frickin tall. Maybe it was the other actor on a crate so their height difference wasn’t so extreme? Anyway, growing up in the San Fernando Valley in the 70s was fun.
Saw Lou Ferrigno, as the Hulk, at a show, at Universal Studios(Hollywood I think), probably 1980. He was even bigger in real life, when you're only 6-7, lol!!
Sadly, it does need a title. Some of us only had 1 TV and an older sister who always watched Little House on the Prairie. I can only assume this is Hulk.
I found my mother's green eye shadow and applied it all over my face. Mom was not happy with her little hulk. I barely remember but big sis took photos.
My dad was a hobo after WW2. Rode the rails from NC to SoCal. I liked to think of his journeys as similar to David Banner’s when we watched this show together. I can only imagine how much worse his actual experiences were…
Easy Peezy. I had a Rock-em Sock-em robot named Bill Bixby. My sister made the label for him with one of those plastic label makers. Thanks for the memory rush.
True story: I used to rip up any bit of clothes I could trying to be the hulk. I was just wee kid so it didn’t amount to much but my mom got sick of me trying to rip up all my clothes.
Every time he changed into The Big Green Guy? I would go tearing down the hall at my granny and granddad’s house (they had color TV, we did not), and hide under their bed. And that lasted until Granddad would come and coax me out from under the bed.
And after that, that kept going until he had me sit in his lap, and promised me that The Big Green Guy wasn’t going to hurt me, that it was make-believe. I still hid my face in his chest, and when he roared I started crying.
UK, Sunday mornings in the 90s. Land of the Giants, Time Tunnel, Planet of the Apes, The Avengers, Batman, The Hulk. Then over to BBC 2 for Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet etc... Great Time to be a kid.
There was a plan at one time to do another live action tv show of similar nature using a cgi hulk. I think it got mothballed with the advent of the MCU. I’m still hopeful it’ll come out one day on Disney Plus. There’s also a rumor that Ed Norton is coming back as an alternate version in the MCU. I love the new ones (except the Professor and how the She Hulk was made as a comedy), but I wouldn’t even be a fan if not for Bill and Lou. It still stands up today imho. My favorite episodes were when he met the other one and when he got caught halfway between transforming.
I heard about Ed coming back as a variant, but we'll see how that goes. I absolutely loved She-Hulk, and all the fourth wall breaking. That's what made a court drama fun.
The fourth wall thing is one of the things I hated. And the Abomination being made into a court jester. John Byrne started that fourth wall thing in his run on She-Hulk in the late 80s or possibly early 90s. To the only thing he ever did that I didn’t like. I so wish he’d finished his Next-Men comic.
Unless your late GenX and then maybe your Xennial, but still, some of us were 0 when this show came out. I'm solid xennial but I did watch some re-runs.
Wasn’t that the opening sequence to My Favorite Martian? I think this is Ray Walston finding his way to earth. Or wait…maybe it was that talking horse show? Ugh…I’m so close. It’s on the tip of my tongue /s

There's an enjoyable documentary on YouTube about this show and, as I recall, it really called attention to the fact that this show was much better than it should have been.

In my defense? I was TWO.

Ralph--Hinkley@reddit (OP)
I heard about Ed coming back as a variant, but we'll see how that goes. I absolutely loved She-Hulk, and all the fourth wall breaking. That's what made a court drama fun.
Alit_Quar@reddit
The fourth wall thing is one of the things I hated. And the Abomination being made into a court jester. John Byrne started that fourth wall thing in his run on She-Hulk in the late 80s or possibly early 90s. To the only thing he ever did that I didn’t like. I so wish he’d finished his Next-Men comic.
Ralph--Hinkley@reddit (OP)
I thought Abomination was good enough villian for the introduction. I've seen the series twice. Now she can come into the MCU.
