Tear gas launcher. There are a bunch of different 37mm tear gas rounds out there.

I wouldn'tve bought this if I didn't know that.

Oh boy, I'm gonna need to find some blueprints for this thing..

They're only like $300, I've heard you can get them for even cheaper too.
biddinge@reddit
I don't know much about them. But I want one. So I can beat up a intruder with a beanbag.

You'd have to register it as a DD to use beanbag rounds in it, and even then you'd have a lot of ATF headaches to deal with.

Q: why do riot control launchers from this era have that sorta thumbhole stock? Seen it on a few different models. Was it for supporting the stock? Something to do with manual of arms or web gear? Compatibility with shields or something?
DarthVaderhosen@reddit
The grenade launchers at my last job had the same and I asked the same question to the armorer and received this answer.
"Thumbhole stocks inherently make it easier and more efficient for the human muscle structure of the hand to hold the launcher steady whenever being held. A regular pistol grip is nice enough and all but requires minor contracting of the muscles in the hand which causes minor shake or sway. Thumbhole stocks let you be laser accurate which is extremely necessary so we don't accidentally inbed a 37mm tear gas cannister in a dude's face at mach jesus."

That doesn't explain why it's actually easier. I imagine you get an extra support point against your wrist.

I recently won an auction for this Federal Laboratories 37mm model 201-Z. I would like to pinpoint the approximate build date for it, and maybe some history of its use in service at the specific department. According to the seller, it was a police trade-in from Baltimore PD. The stamping says it was built in Saltsburg, PA so I know it was at least built after \~1954 when they moved from Pittsburgh to Saltsburg. The serial number is AZ 10975, stamped on the receiver, under the barrel and it is only visible when the breach is opened. On other models the serial numbers were stamped on the bottom of the receiver where they are visible at all times, most of the other serials I've seen start with G and are in the 2xxxx range. The only good info I have found was this thread on a forum, but it seems like some of it is inaccurate. Not much information about these online. If I could get some other serial numbers of launchers that came with dated paperwork that would help me pinpoint what era it was built in.
