Why the 2nd Amendment Matters: An Asian Australian’s Take

Saw the news today about an Asian Australian getting bullied by some randos in a Sydney park. As an Asian Australian living in Arizona, let me just say— that’s not happening to me. If anyone even thinks about trying, they’d better be 100% sure of two things: 1. I’m not carrying a firearm. 2. I don’t have one within 30 seconds of reach (in my car, in my house, in my gym bag etc).
God bless America.
terminal_sarcasm@reddit
Shame that only 10% of Asian American adults personally owns a gun.
MechwolfMachina@reddit
It is 100% the fault of hare brained thinking from the old country, a lot of 2nd gen. Children of Immigrants have had their thinking poisoned by 1st gen. Parents enforcing this idea that the government and law enforcement will take care of them and that guns are dangerous (news flash a water heater is dangerous and every household has one. So is faulty electronics and gas leaks which can self delete an entire family in a single night. How is it that we have come this far without understanding that the gun control lobby is manipulation our perfection of gun safety?)
Shynel05@reddit
Thankfully not in my family. Although the matriarch says we have too many guns between us guys in the family, she does have her own pistol she uses. 😅
Melkor7410@reddit
When we have a VP candidate saying, "sometimes it's just the guns," nothing about the gun control lobby surprises me now.
arghyac555@reddit
Non-citizen and non-GC people (many Asians are on work visa and/or working towards GC) cannot CCW outside South Carolina. One of the reasons you do not see Asian Americans not owning firearms.
notacommiesupporter@reddit
I’m proud to say that me and my father are in that 10%. Take personal responsibility for your safety, because god knows the government won’t.
RejectorPharm@reddit
Saw a hot Asian chick with a rifle case at the airport with a tag from Alaskan Airlines yesterday.
Snub-Nose-Sasquatch@reddit
She was so hawt. I think I saw her as well.
terminal_sarcasm@reddit
That's hot
05_legend@reddit
Who tf cares if you're carrying. Hit the gym OP.
Rundallo@reddit
biceps aint shit compared to old mate 12 gauge. haha
05_legend@reddit
Lmk how bringing a 12 gauge to the mall goes
StressfulRiceball@reddit
Extremists in the US always talk about how racist Americans are but nobody talks about how much Australians openly fucking HATE Asians of all kinds lmfao
I guess I'm kinda lucky as a Japanese immigrant living in the US; I'm not exceptionally short (5'11) and I shit on people for English so nobody fucked with me on a racial basis. (Just a couple ching-chongs from assholes in highschool)
And when they do, well, my 365XL has served me well over the years.
Rundallo@reddit
yeah here in australia its REALLY openly racist towards Indians especially
05_legend@reddit
Americans are racists towards Asians. It's subtle, you just didn't grow up here so you'll never pick up on it.
StressfulRiceball@reddit
um... moving here at age 10 and growing to an adult in the 30s don't count as growing up here?
I've NEVER had anyone say shit directly AT me, and I engage in the usual stereotypes; If I get pulled over for speeding, I FULLY intend to tell the officer "Sorry, I guess they never calibrated the speedometer for my eyes".
Granted the worst of it were when I first moved here and couldn't speak English for shit; a black teacher took away my electronic dictionary saying it was a playstation and some Chinese teacher just hated my guts.
Boring-Test5522@reddit (OP)
Racism in Australia is another level lol.
Rundallo@reddit
im a aussie the anti-gun brain rot is too far deep here unfortunately.
thejude87@reddit
Hello fellow Asian Australian living in America that also enjoys firearms
the_warudo_@reddit
go look up what happens when asians try to defend themselves against actually protected minorities in america
you're going to jail fool, that's in this world where apparently you have a gun but they don't for some reason
Snub-Nose-Sasquatch@reddit
Women, the elderly, the frail, and small stature men don't stand a chance against an athletic 5'10'' man in any kind of physical altercation. And yet, they can become battle tanks the moment they draw a barking .38 Special.
Boring-Test5522@reddit (OP)
even if you are big, you have no chance against a group of baddies: https://imgur.com/a/XgaKVi7
Salsa_El_Mariachi@reddit
these look like high schoolers; not sure how a gun would have solved any of this. If this scenario happened between adults, maybe, and he should have protected his space much sooner.
DangerHawk@reddit
In what world is that being bullied?! That's a straight up assault/attempted murder. Bullying someone is making beeping noises as they back up. When I read your OG post I was questioning whether someone of your mindset should be carrying in the first place. You'd shoot someone for calling you fat or making squinty eyes at you?? Being bullied isn't a shootable offense.
This attempted murder however is 100% a shootable offense.
Snub-Nose-Sasquatch@reddit
Agreed - No chance of survival there.
walmarttshirt@reddit
I’m 6’2” and I grew up in a rough neighborhood. Anyone that thinks they can fight when they aren’t suspecting it, is mostly wrong. To get the upper hand in a fight once you have been attacked is not easy even if you are big. Also if you are confronted by multiple people willing to do harm then you need an equalizer.
That’s why I carry.
There are always stories of people fighting off multiple assailants but they are by far the minority. Most fights/attacks will go the way of the numbers.
Jo3yJ3tt@reddit
I am multiple times the minority then...
oswaldcopperpot@reddit
And it takes many hours each week of martial arts training and you must stay in good cardio to even have that chance. And your assailants also must be unarmed. A lotta ifs when you can just carry.
Mattthefat@reddit
Yep, there’s a reason why there are weight classes in combat sports
SilverwolfBoo@reddit
Cuz in australia its kind of illegal to perform self protection so yeah shit happen
Konstant_kurage@reddit
A modern day anecdote: in occupied Ukraine the Russian FSB got their hands on the local city and oblast (like a county) records and are going to every single house that had any sort of gun ever registered, even a hunting license or worked for certain businesses will your house searched.
Cliffinati@reddit
also in red dawn the Russians search the gun stores 4473 records
Konstant_kurage@reddit
I don’t remember that, OG or redux?

Oh well
Boring-Test5522@reddit (OP)
this is the way
Excelius@reddit
Would you care to share this news with the rest of us? I can't seem to find anything.
Even here in the US, it takes a lot more than "bullying" to justify lethal force.
Boring-Test5522@reddit (OP)
here it is: https://imgur.com/a/XgaKVi7 I think news didnt pick it up yet.
LordofCope@reddit
Bro that's not being bullied that's straight up assault by a mob lmao. FFS, I thought you were talking about some harsh language.
Excelius@reddit
Is there any context surrounding this?
That's certainly not bullying, that's a gang beat-down.
The disparity in numbers, and the obvious attempt to disengage, would likely make the threat of lethal force (and possibly even the application) justified in most US jurisdictions.
https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/blog/disparity-of-force/
Snub-Nose-Sasquatch@reddit
Obviously.
People with morals would not shoot somebody just because they got yelled at or cussed at by a Big Bully.
The point is that because Americans are armed to the teeth, it takes an exceptionally dumb Big Bully to do his bully thing, because he cannot be certain who is or isn't armed, and who wouldn't shoot him for doing his Big Bully thing.
Stock_Block2130@reddit
Some of us are smaller and now older than the average thug. That’s why we carry.
snakeman1961@reddit
Better to be judged by 12 than carried by six is the old saying...but today you will be bankrupt and broken even if the judge's gavel slams in your favor
ethanthesearcher@reddit
Remember the 2a is there because the government is the largest bully of all
EvanCmeh@reddit
Are you saying you would shoot someone for hurting your feelings?
Science-Compliance@reddit
I think it's great you have the ability to protect yourself, but you should get some pepper spray as a first step if the threat doesn't appear to show imminent threat of great bodily harm, if only to save you the potential legal trouble of discharging your firearm.
Boring-Test5522@reddit (OP)
Nope, if somebody pull this shit on me, they should be ready to get smoke: https://imgur.com/a/XgaKVi7
Snub-Nose-Sasquatch@reddit
Amen. Any suggestions? I used to carry POM but was very unimpressed with its performance during a dog attack last year. The dog took a direct blast in the face and was 110% unfazed.
Jordan_1424@reddit
Enjoy that while it lasts. Deportation squad is coming soon enough.
On a serious note:
So you're going to shoot someone for exercising their 1st amendment rights? Bullying sucks, people suck, you don't have the right to pull a gun on someone for hurting your (seemingly fragile) feelings.
Boring-Test5522@reddit (OP)
Check it out. It is not harrasement https://imgur.com/a/XgaKVi7
5stringattack@reddit
I could be wrong but maybe "bully" means more than picking on someone to OP, remember other countries and people have different meanings for words. I got the impression he meant bully as in assault, and in most free places in the U.S. if a group of people start physically assaulting someone...let's say in Florida where I'm at...and they fear for their safety and life they have every right to draw on someone.
TooTiredMovieGuy@reddit
So you're gonna merc somebody for being mean to you?
Boring-Test5522@reddit (OP)
Sorry, I think it should mean "assaulting" in American English: https://imgur.com/a/XgaKVi7

I am not Asian but stay strapped. Don’t ever let your safety be in someone else’s hands. Train with that weapon as often as possible and self defense. I always say I am over 6 feet 230ish atm trained and light. Yet I don’t want no smoke. 💨 If it finds me though best believe that person will end up on a shirt.
HACKSofMALICE@reddit
Stay strapped or get clapped by Diddy
AsianArmsDealer-1992@reddit
Us Asians know where it's at. Especially when we happen to have the rooftop high ground.
kWarExtreme@reddit
Wasn't the only asian killed in that killed by a bad shot by one of the other Asians? I might be wrong.
AsianArmsDealer-1992@reddit
So the narrative goes. 2 Asians were killed out of a recorded 63 deaths. Some believe both were bad shoots by others.
I am hesitant to take that 63 at face value due to possibility of GSW receivers not being brought to v hospitals/clinics if they partook in the looting.
