CH-67@reddit
It’s 99% likely that it’s a pellet gun.
https://www.umarexusa.com/legends-mp-177-black
rowrin@reddit
I would have thought the same until I realized that there's a company importing semi-auto reproductions for $530
cty_hntr@reddit
I agree, as real MP40 are collectors items.
Firefox_Alpha2@reddit
A real, functioning MP40 would be so expensive that I doubt they’d use it to rob a gas station
kwb377@reddit
They're robbing gas stations...do you really thing they're buying their guns or stealing them?
Drew1231@reddit
People dump them at buy backs to be destroyed for $200 all of the time.
f2020tohell@reddit
Those are dumb people who don’t realize the tens of thousands of dollars they could get for selling it to a collector
RabidBlackSquirrel@reddit
If it's a real deal, full giggle MP40 it's worth negative money unless it's on the registry. Being a legal, registered giggle gat is what's valuable, anything else and it's just a ticket to Club Fed unless you're a politician. Can't sell it if it's not a properly paper worked NFA item.
f2020tohell@reddit
Seeing as I own numerous NFA items, I’m already aware of that.
It’s far more likely to be something like this, though. https://palmettostatearmory.com/mauser-mp-40-22-lr-rifle-black-polymer-440-00-09.html
StevenMcStevensen@reddit
I don’t think the average loser committing gas station robberies would necessarily realize that either.
Drew1231@reddit
I think a lot of them are old ladies who find their husbands battlefield bring back unregistered machine gun.
_my_way@reddit
I just really get the impression that these people probably wouldn't be all that aware of the collector's value of a real mp40.
Firefox_Alpha2@reddit
Sadly, wouldn’t surprise me
GeorgiaNinja94@reddit
It might be one of those semiauto reproductions by GSG.
Hurricaneshand@reddit
Yeah I was just thinking that I feel like I've seen cheap knockoffs. Are they only in 22? I feel like I've seen them chambered in 9mm but maybe I dreamt it
Low-Feature-3973@reddit
Yeah, they have them in 9mm.
Have one, neat for novelty, not worth the money.
Low-Feature-3973@reddit
I was thinking stolen GSG reproduction.
anothercarguy@reddit
Wasn't there a 22LR GSG one too?
Puffsley@reddit
Could also be one of these
OleRockTheGoodAg@reddit
GSG makes one of them in 9mm as well, but thats beside the point.
Monkeynumbernoine@reddit
I was just going to say, it’s either a 22 copy or some airsoft/bb gun type deal. You’d have to knock over a lot of gas station cash registers to equal the value of a real MP40.
Puffsley@reddit
I think the .22 clones sell for like $350 here in Canada so I imagine they're a good bit cheaper down south, even more so if used or from a pawn shop or something
GenitalMotors@reddit
Media can't help but throw that word out whenever they get a chance.
SnakeEyes_76@reddit
An WWII era gun is now an assault weapon. Got it. What’s next, an M1 Garand is high powered, assault sniper rifle?
Bovaloe@reddit
At least it has been a weapon of war, and it's high powered, and it was a super rifle, so kinda right?
SnakeEyes_76@reddit
Ooh can’t forget how pump shotguns were used in WWI! Surely no civilian needs access to such devastating power as a pump action 12 gauge. Look it can fire as fast as one can operate the action! 🙄🙄🙄
Chilipatily@reddit
Didn’t Germany petition for the 1897’s use to be considered a war crime?
SnakeEyes_76@reddit
Was that before or after the implementation of poison gas, which for sure was a war crime at the time.
bjanas@reddit
The joke that "it's never a war crime the first time!" is funny-ish, but absolutely true in this case. Chemical weapons were pretty novel at the time, they weren't really declared illegal internationally until 1925.
What's really wild is Fritz Haber, the guy who pretty much invented chemical warfare. He ALSO developed the process used to produce synthetic fertilizer, and as such is estimated to have saved like a billion people from starvation.
The duality of man, I guess.
Civil-Captain-2671@reddit
I don't know shit. But I think the krauts complained about our shotguns in WW1? Assholes shoulda did shit that didn't get them shot rather than shit that did.
Chilipatily@reddit
That’s the 1897 I mentioned.
ComicallyLargeAfrica@reddit
They only complained to distract the world from their use of chemical weapons.
Chilipatily@reddit
Exactly
Glum-Contribution380@reddit
Germans tried to say shotguns were banned by rules of war for “unnecessary suffering”. These are also the same guys that were the first to use poison gas and flamethrowers.
Dale_Wardark@reddit
Yes. They were losing the war and getting desperate. When it was pointed out that the use of gas was cruel and inhumane they shut up real quick and the war ended shortly after.
Fun fact our AEF doughboys were so skilled with their Winchesters and Remingtons they could shoot grenades out of the air like clay pigeons. A big detriment to these shotguns though was the use of disposable paper shells, which, while cost effective, would swell up if exposed to rain, mud, and blood and would jam inside the gun, requiring extensive attention to clean out.
SnakeEyes_76@reddit
Can you imagine being a German soldier, worn down by years of trench warfare, jaded and traumatized beyond belief….only to see the end soon…only to see an army of clean, well equipped and most importantly motivated, troops charging your way? Good grief…WWI really was hell.
Dale_Wardark@reddit
I read a firsthand account of an American citizen who traveled to Britain to join (technically illegal but nobody was going to say anything) before the US was formally involved. He said that the most awful thing, besides artillery shelling, were the sturmtruppen. The Germans would gas the British lines and that was the signal. German troops would go over the top (probably where that turn of phrase comes from) and charge with bayonetes fixed while wearing their gasmasks and stalhelms. He recalled one time when his mask and ear were clipped by a bullet and he passed out before the Germans made it to his trench. The charge was largely unsuccessful and when he came to, it was night and he spent the hours listening to the dying Germans caught on the barbed wire and out in the mud.
The Great War was one of the most horrible and terrible conflicts in human history. There were over 700,000 casualties at Verdun alone. At the Somme nearly 20,000 British soldiers died in ONE DAY. By the time the Americans were involved the war was winding down, but our forces took one of the worst jobs; pushing the Germans in the Meuse-Argonne offensive. The Germans had perfected defensive withdrawal and turned the Argonne into a maze of bunkers, foxholes, earthen defenses, and machine gun traps which they turned into a meatgrinder that doughboys went into, wounded came out of, and dead and missing stayed inside of. All told it became one of the worst military engagements the US has been involved in, with over 95,000 Americans wounded and 26,000 Americans killed. For this and many other reasons, Veterans Day, or Armistice Day as I call it interchangeably, is one of my most important holidays.
AM-64@reddit
Especially true with those old Slam-Fire capable shotguns of yester-year.
Essentially a war crime according to Imperial Germany.
JeffRoyJenkins@reddit
Imagine how people's heads would explode if it was accurately described as a battle rifle?
anothercarguy@reddit
I think they're banned in Washington and Illinois
SnakeEyes_76@reddit
I don’t believe the Garand is banned. The Springfield M1A is. But the Garand doesn’t have any features that fall under banned features to my knowledge. But then again, that piece of legislation is the most confusing, vague and poorly written piece of dog shit I think I’ve ever seen. So really who knows
anothercarguy@reddit
I heard it's all semi autos and went with that, and I recall seeing somewhere that Garands are banned in Illinois
Reverend179@reddit
CMP is still delivering M1 Garands to WA.
ComfortableOld288@reddit
I mean, both assault rifles and assault guns were used in WWII… it’s just the MP40 is neither of those things
AM-64@reddit
I mean technically speaking the Garand is more of a weapon of war and a literal "Assault" Rifle (See D-Day) than your run of the mill AR-15 lol
SnakeEyes_76@reddit
Not a measly assault rifle. It’s the greatest battle implement ever devised! 🫡
HellBringer97@reddit
I mean…M1C and M1D Garands that still have the bayonet lug would like a word lol.
But for real, the media is such a pain in the ass when it comes to these things.
Drew1231@reddit
It’s literally designed to kill 8 charging horses as quickly as possible before killing 8 more horses.
DrunkensAndDragons@reddit
To be fair mp40 smg mp44 assault rifle. Theres room for confusion even in the gun community. Just playing devils advocate. Come and take it lol.
Ok-Preparation-3138@reddit
☝️
CAB_IV@reddit
Only if it's an M1C or D
thereddaikon@reddit
In this case at least a real one would be a machine gun. Although given how rare and expensive they are I'm willing to bet this is either airsoft or one of the .22lr repros.
Panthean@reddit
Part of that is WA state law. Countless stupid guns are considered "AW" and banned.
A Beretta bobcat with a threaded barrel is an "AW".
mcbergstedt@reddit
I mean the MP40 (real ones at least) is actually one of the few guns where it was LITERALLY an assault weapon.
Drew1231@reddit
The term “assault rifle” is a select fire intermediate cartridge rifle.
The MP40 uses a pistol cartridge and wouldn’t meet the definition. It may not be select fire either but idk.
erdricksarmor@reddit
"Assault weapon" is a made up political term. The MP40 is a submachine gun.
AtomicPhantomBlack@reddit
TBF, it was a weapon, made for assaulting positions. But yes, assault weapon is a bogus term. Assault rifle on the other hand...
Leading-Lab-4446@reddit
I bet you anything that's one of those Umarex clone bb guns. If you had the cash to get a legit mp40 you wouldn't need to be robbing stores.
SaintEyegor@reddit
Yeah. I have to agree. I have the Umerex MP-40 and Thompson and they both look very realistic.
5cott@reddit
The Umarex is so much fun. We call that one the ‘giggle switch’.
Underwater_Karma@reddit (OP)
odds are it's stolen regardless if real or not.
If someone were buying an airsoft gun to hold up gas stations, they probably wouldn't choose an MP40 clone.
SaintEyegor@reddit
I bought both on mine on Amazon.
Calibased@reddit
Mofo was playing DOD
SilverwolfBoo@reddit
Hither is crying after someone call his beloved mp40 as a assault weapon 🤣
Still-Bison@reddit
If it was an actual mp40 they wouldn't be robbing gas stations. Probably the ATI/GSG version or a bb gun.
Artful_Dodger_1832@reddit
I’m not even going to bother reading some bullshit article. Unless they broke into some very wealthy persons house and somehow managed to steal what is probably an extremely secured and expensive weapon; nobody robbing a gas station is going to have a fucking MP40.
Stumpy6464@reddit
Hopefully they have that gun legally!
Underwater_Karma@reddit (OP)
uh, it would be ILLEGAL if it weren't.
I'm sure these fine young citizens wouldn't violate the law...
KittehKittehKat@reddit
I’ve got a full auto metal MP40 replica that shoots BBs. I think that’s what it is.
Okie_Surveyor@reddit
Probably a 22lr version. Mfkrs cant afford a real one. Let be bothered to actually buy the drink at the gas station.
JohnnyRoastb33f@reddit
You should probably step away from the keyboard for a bit.
Okie_Surveyor@reddit
Too hungry for some roasted beef to not talk about guns. Guns are fun. People who misuse them are not.
JohnnyRoastb33f@reddit
But you should definitely educate yourself more before commenting further.
Okie_Surveyor@reddit
Ok, educate myself with what? Proper gun handling? Proper storage? How to shoot? How to reload? how to steal firearms and use them against others for monetary gain??? please assist instead of bleating like an overturned goat.
JohnnyRoastb33f@reddit
Start with the MP40 you’re blathering about line you think you know something. If course it’s lot a “real” MP40. Spend some time with that then move on to other things. Arrogance and ignorance are the best combination on the internet.
Okie_Surveyor@reddit
I did some cursory research, looking at multiple articles. Shy of looking at the actual police reports. Non stated the caliber of the weapon, which is clearly modeled after a German MP40. It may not be A german firearm. It may be an AEG airsoft rifle. But to the employees, it is a gun. And that will be/was the crux of the arrest. It only matters if the people 'believed' that it was a brandished weapon and not a toy. It does not have the orange safety tip on it, which makes me beliebe it is either painted - or a firearm that shoots bullets and not plastic.
I was simply trying to save some other people time and effort by looking it up... Do I need to cite those articles for you? It is too tryhard to just be good to the other readers on here? Or do you just want to play make believe? Seriously man, you seem agitated for no reason. If it upsets you to see guns...dont look at guns...
JohnnyRoastb33f@reddit
Yeah. “Research.” That’s what you did. Here’s another tip. The MP40 isn’t a rifle.
Okie_Surveyor@reddit
Colloquial terms arent your forte are they? Calling this a rifle is incorrect, but for colloquialism towards conversational simplicity. Of which confused and or angered you.
Its like getting pissed at someone calling a ladel a spoon.
Machinenpistole 40 is a submachine gun. Are you happy beef stew?
JohnnyRoastb33f@reddit
I don’t get angry about NPCs.
Underwater_Karma@reddit (OP)
I assume it was stolen.
thereddaikon@reddit
If an MG were stolen the ATF might have actually have to get involved. Seems too hot for some gas station robbers. Its airsoft or the 22lr replica.
Underwater_Karma@reddit (OP)
every stolen glock in this area has a full auto switch on it, they literally don't give a rats ass about the ATF.
thereddaikon@reddit
True but that's different than stealing a registered MG from a rich person. It's not that it's another MG on the street. It's that you stole from someone with money.
sladay93@reddit
Could also be a BB gun that looks like an MP40
Puffsley@reddit
GSG makes a replica in .22 that can be had for next to nothing
That'd be my guess
theworldofAR@reddit
It’s definitely that
Okie_Surveyor@reddit
Oh yeah, well I didnt think of that either. Poor fudd may have gotten his teasure taken! It would actually be a travesty because that rifle will be kept in lockup for a decade or more!
Okie_Surveyor@reddit
Not sure why the downvotes, Im saying if an ACTUAL MP40 was in lockup, thats a piece of history that collectors can no longer access. Its almost as good as destroyed.
Wildkarrde_@reddit
Probably airsoft replica
Okie_Surveyor@reddit
Very well could be, but the shininess of the bold face leads me tp believe otherwise. But, it cpuld also be a decent replica! Feel bad for the workers.
Highlifetallboy@reddit
MP40 shaped object, not an MP40.
Okie_Surveyor@reddit
Ok, educate myself with what? Proper gun handling? Proper storage? How to shoot? How to reload? how to steal firearms and use them against others for monetary gain??? please assist instead of bleating like an overturned goat.
ComicallyLargeAfrica@reddit
Genuinely one of the funniest visuals to ever grace the lens of a security camera.
ozzyozzyozz@reddit
This is probably a bb gun. They make very good and heavy replicas, they shoot fully auto too. Much fun
Ok_Calendar_7626@reddit
HALT!!! HAND OVER ZE CASH!
Puffsley@reddit
it's probably one of those G2G .22 replicas you can get for a couple hundred bucks

FishDawgX@reddit
Police didn’t recover it. Free MP40 in a bush somewhere for whoever finds it.
Underwater_Karma@reddit (OP)
I'm sure some good citizen will turn it in...
AligatorMasterBaiter@reddit
Just gonna hold onto it for the next buyback $20 iTunes gift card.
2020blowsdik@reddit
Probably the GSG MP40 clone.
SuperNa7uraL-@reddit
That was my first thought.
MountainVet-Stjohn45@reddit
That's what I was thinking.
KineticTechProjects@reddit
no way its an original lol
rabishop6@reddit
One of the three is 11 years old. Fucking hell
Underwater_Karma@reddit (OP)
Juvenile current crime is up like 400% in Seattle because they've realized there's no consequences for them.
SnakeEyes_76@reddit
Cops in some Washington state departments, per policy, can’t even talk to juveniles now without express parental consent. Meaning if the cops actually manage to detain one of these shit bags, they can’t ask question or do any investigation until they get a hold of shit bag’s mommy or daddy and get permission from them to talk to the kid. You can imagine how often they say “yes please go ahead and interrogate my precious baby.”
