This is basically a hunting/fishing vehicle. It's total trash on the road but it has portal axles and it floats. So you can drive it to the lake and into the lake
logunleonov@reddit
Fun fact: you can still buy one for 3-5k$, remove all weapons, register it as tractor and use on public roads
GrynaiTaip@reddit
Less fun fact: they're shit at everything. Visibility is extremely limited, engine is underpowered yet surprisingly thirsty, top speed is like 50 kph (could go faster, but it's too scary) and it weighs a fuckload, which means that it's super bad on any road. A rusty old Hilux would outperform it on any terrain.
Hermitcraft7@reddit
It's a military vehicle for a reason. If you drove an M113 on public roads it would perform the same way.
GrynaiTaip@reddit
Sure, but M113 is at least quite good at its intended purpose.
Hermitcraft7@reddit
Sure... A deathtrap at best.
logunleonov@reddit
Except water
Neosantana@reddit
Put a snorkel on a Hilux and it'll put up a good fight
Modo44@reddit
Don't forget the brakes. It will stop... eventually.

A couple of years before the war, most of these "tractors" had their registration cancelled. And they cost closer to $10k in stock and around $15-20k after modifications.
SjalabaisWoWS@reddit
How and where? Asking for a friend.
GrynaiTaip@reddit
I think www.MortarInvestments.eu has a few of these.
SjalabaisWoWS@reddit
Wow, from a MAZ537 to the more local, to me, Volvo BVs. Even a section for aircraft. That's quite the dealer! The UAZ Buchanka is also imported to the EU via the Czech Republic, that's a new piece of ancient automotive history.
GrynaiTaip@reddit
Buchankas are still being manufactured, before the war you were even able to buy brand new ones, there were dealerships in several Eastern European countries.
SjalabaisWoWS@reddit
Exactly what I'm saying. :) The 60th anniversary version even had heated seats.
BucketsMcGaughey@reddit
Surprised they're not sending every one they can find to get droned to smithereens in Ukraine.
Starchaser_WoF@reddit
Come for the armor plating, stay for the comfortable interior, leave for the soviet engineering
FartInGenDirection@reddit
Has a MACHO gauge. Because mucho is the correct amount of macho
lynivvinyl@reddit
WOAH, It's carpeted!
SjalabaisWoWS@reddit
That's what got me. The padded interior. Are we simulating comfort here?
MrPoosh@reddit
Is that allowed in Russia?
curt543210@reddit
Comfort, you mean? It's not in keeping with the official policy.
Zadornik@reddit
Anything is allowed in Russia, the question is money.
bonerJR@reddit
Wasn't expecting that crazy luxury inside

GTA4!
SovietTriumph@reddit
That one was a Gage Commando. Different one.
Efffro@reddit
pimp my APC
Plump_Apparatus@reddit
It's a recon vehicle, not a APC. The BRDM-2 carries no dismounts, just a crew of three.
HangryPangs@reddit
Dream car right there.
nitrogrundel@reddit
I’d camp in that looks comfy
EmilyThe500@reddit
WOW! Somebody modded their Cybertruck 🤣
Cyfun06@reddit
Honestly, the BDRM-2 is somehow less ugly than a Cybertruck. And a damn sight more reliable, and easier to get parts for.
Space_Reptile@reddit
the steering wheel is hillarius
ZaMelonZonFire@reddit
I first read that gauge as a "MACHO" gauge... and now I choose to believe that's exactly what it is.
Cthell@reddit
Looks like it's still got the 4 small drop-down wheels under the belly to help with cross-country performance
Frisinator@reddit
This is was Elmo thinks a CT is…
Tronkfool@reddit
But at the end of the day, it isn't a Renault Modus.
curt543210@reddit
And you're the only truck in town with a shiny brass periscope! How cool is that?
orange150@reddit
Why's it got a bull bar from JC Whitney on the front
curt543210@reddit
That's only for bling. It's armoured; the whole truck is a bull bar.
oppositelock27@reddit
Don't want to dent this puppy.
GrynaiTaip@reddit
In russia it is considered a sign of immense wealth.
chris-za@reddit
How many gallons per mile?
BadWolfRU@reddit
Average 30 l/100 km ~ 7,8 mpg
curt543210@reddit
So, no worse that a jacked up 4X4 pickup with a big V-8 and totally useless Gonzo-Swamper tires, then? Interesting.
SjalabaisWoWS@reddit
That's like a semi - not bad, actually. Some Russian military trucks are known for parity mileage - one litre per km.
BadWolfRU@reddit
It uses the same 5,5L GAZ-41 (ZMZ-41) V8 engine as GAZ-66 and similar to GAZ civilian trucks like GAZ-52/53.
1L per km - it's more like a legend, regarding KrAZ 214 or 255. In reality it was around 40 l/100 at average, but with max towing capacity around 50 tonnes and in heavy road conditions it could easily beat 70-80 l/100
SjalabaisWoWS@reddit
Thanks for the info. 40 l/100 km sounds almost too reasonable for a KrAZ. Are you sure about that?
shapu@reddit
That looks really cozy
blaqcatdrum@reddit
Looks pretty nice.
Quietabandon@reddit
Surprised it hasn’t been requisitioned to be sent to Ukraine.
The_Nabisco_Thing@reddit (OP)
Wouldn't surprise me... I think i saved these photos back in 2008 lol!
BadWolfRU@reddit
To much bardack already going on
Barfolemew_Wiggins@reddit
Nice. I’ll take two please.
NachoNachoDan@reddit
Pretty sure you can legally drive just about anything on Russian roads.
