2025 Nissan Armada delivers full-size adventures from $56,520

Surprisingly despite being redesigned for this year, the base price is the exact same as the 2024 model. It comes in about $4k less than the Tahoe, $6k less than the Sequoia and Expedition and $3k less than the Wagoneer.
One-Platypus3455@reddit
Now we need a new Xterra like yesterday….
Any-Squirrel3223@reddit
Had. 2007 Xterra that I bought new. It barely made it to 70k before CVT blew up. I don't miss that pos at all
toast_fatigue@reddit
That year Xterra did not have a CVT.
CTJacob@reddit
No Xterra ever had a CVT...
toast_fatigue@reddit
Also true.
basileus_altair@reddit
Literally just make the frontier into an SUV. Same frame, same drivetrain, similar appearance. Price it a couple $ks less than the 4Runner and it’ll sell
animealt46@reddit
Sure it'll sell but would it be profitable? There's a reason why nobody challenges the 4R directly, it's basically a free car to develop for Toyota with Land Cruiser and Tacoma parts, something Nissan and others don't enjoy. Sure you have Frontier parts, but making a SUV out of that is much more intensive than taking a 250 series LC and more or less just inserting other preexisting bits from Tacoma.
velociraptorfarmer@reddit
The Frontier and even the Titan share a shitload of parts going all the way back to 2005. Older Pathfinders even share some of these parts.
There's guys with 2023 Frontiers running 2014 Titan control arms, or 2008 Pathfinder front brakes and CV axles.
The aftermarket has exploded for the platform in the past couple years as well. Z1 opened their offroad division, and All Dogs Offroad has done a ton of legwork for expanding suspension options, even developing their own coils and leaf packs.
toast_fatigue@reddit
The Frontier/Xterra/Pathfinder of that vintage most of the same parts, but the Titan/Armada of the same era are more similar to each other than the others.
Captain_Alaska@reddit
This is the Nissan that already builds an SUV version of the Navara, the Terra
Bassracerx@reddit
The other question is : where would they build it? Because the chicken tax it would have to be built in north America. Does Nissan have the capability to build it in the same facility as the frontier? Does that factory have any extra capacity?
I know the Titan is being discontinued next year so a new Bof suv where the titan is made might work out!
cptpb9@reddit
In this case yeah it does, Nissans 2 US factories are both operating below capacity so there would be room there. I think Mexico and Canada they’re full though
animealt46@reddit
IIRC chicken tax isn't an issue since it's a car with seats. Only pickup trucks and commercial vans are subject to it, thus the whole drama with Ford's Transit Connect being able to avoid it by shipping with seats installed that the port removed.
Bassracerx@reddit
Oh yeah i forgot that suvs can be built overseas.
Slimy_Shart_Socket@reddit
With a rear locker Pro-4X trim.
velociraptorfarmer@reddit
That's how the Frontier gets optioned for the locker, so I don't see why it wouldn't.
vishysuave@reddit
That’s basically what the Pathfinder used to be before they turned it into a FWD people carrier with a CVT. Damn you Nissan!!
Motorized23@reddit
Amen!
froiwok@reddit
Really wish the Armada got the Klipsch sound system from Infiniti but otherwise seems solid
Civil-Ganache-4173@reddit
think the Rattis rides video you can see the pro4x had Klipsch
caverunner17@reddit
I'm surprised they kept it. I figured it was built on the same line as the Titan which shuttered after this year.
Drzhivago138@reddit
The first-gen model was built in Canton, MS; the second-gen became a Patrol rebadge built in Japan.
WatchStoredInAss@reddit
Rented one a few years back. What a lumbering, gas-guzzling obscenity that was. Morbid obesity on wheels.
bestselfnice@reddit
Really? I had a first gen QX56 and it drove surprisingly nice for what it was.
Bigbadbrindledog@reddit
In other news I drove a Miata and it didn't have room for my family of 6 and wouldn't tow my camper.
It's a full size truck with 3 rows, what was the expectation?
korko@reddit
People used to do that with minivans that and SUVs that were half the size of these ridiculous things.
Bigbadbrindledog@reddit
Small SUVs and minivans don't tow anything of any size.
Not saying everyone who buys one needs one, that's definitely not the case. But they have a purpose for the right people.
korko@reddit
Friends and family have been towing big ass boats with their shitbox Caravans for years and it has never been a problem…
FWD_to_twin_turbo@reddit
Congratulations, your friends and family are dumbasses.
Towing recommendations take into consideration the chassis, suspension, acceleration, cooling, stability and BRAKING. The last one being the most important.
A minivan has a stupidly low tow rating because it doesn't have the chassis rigidity, suspension stiffness, stability under load, or the proper braking capacity to tow squiggly fuck and doing so is unsafe.
"I do it all the time and never had an issue" heard that before, sometimes if you wait long enough you'll get to scoop up the remains of person who said it with a shovel.
verdegrrl@reddit
No insults, thanks.
korko@reddit
I’ll let them know the internet says they are being dangerous, I’m sure they’ll be very concerned and immediately sell their fifteen year old minivans for $60,000 pickups.
FWD_to_twin_turbo@reddit
Or trade their 15 year old minivans for 15-20 year old pickups??
You're making these people seem dumber by the sentence lmao. I have a newer Titan, but i have an old Titan that you can pick up for less than 10K nowadays.
We also have an old 2004 Silverado 2500 gas we picked up for $900.
"Lets be unsafe in an old minivan because of course the only alternative is a mid range 2024" LMAO.
korko@reddit
They are dumb rednecks, who else do you think is towing an ice house with a 15 year old minivan. Have you looked at the prices of a 2010 Caravan vs a 2010 Ram/Silverado/F150? Most their Caravans were bought for scrap and they replaced the transmission. You are never going to get any truck for that.
FWD_to_twin_turbo@reddit
Well shiiiiit you should have started with that, i retract my previous statements. If we're talking deep North Dakota type of redneck, it having 4 tires, a 1 piece frame and working brakes is as safe as it fucking gets tbh
korko@reddit
Most the people I know towing shit are either in res country in norther MN or northern Arkansas now… they used to be in the Twin Cities but their lifestyles are better suited where there aren’t people.
Bigbadbrindledog@reddit
Modern minivans tow around 3500 lbs. That would tow a popup or tear drop trailer or 20' boat safely, anything bigger than that will need a larger vehicle. There are definitely light weight boats out there that would work, but you will certainly be limited. Things like bass and pontoons weigh less but here in Florida those aren't suitable for many.
Not saying you can't do it, but it certainly won't fit all uses.
DaggumTarHeels@reddit
I know this sub really hates full-size SUV's, and I get the inclination to counter-jerk, but I think they're speaking to just how large vehicles have gotten.
People say "but the length and width have been roughly stable!" without mentioning that height (and therefore total volume) have massively increased.
If you have a big family and go camping, they make a lot of sense. But my relatives (and mother) all have full-size pickups that I know for a fact are only used to commute.
People can buy what they want with their money, but it's clear that a lot of Americans are setting money on fire and then complaining about prices because they want to feel like they're in charge of the road.
It's interesting. We ran a farm with a single-cab 2WD Toyota T100 and the people who currently lease that same farmland from us insist that they need HD 2500's for roughly the same harvest......
hatchbacks@reddit
yes they do brother
dammit he’s one of them
DaggumTarHeels@reddit
Are we gonna pretend that the GMC/Chevy/Dodge/Ford ads don't play heavily into that haha?
aaayyyuuussshhh@reddit
Full size SUvs have remained largely the same in size. At least since the excursion debuted
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
For the most, yes. The one outlier is the current gen Tahoe and Yukon, which grew about 6" in length compared to the previous gen.
aaayyyuuussshhh@reddit
True the short wheelbase models grew but I think it's for a good reason. The traverse in the older generations were the same size as the Escalade on the outside but had gobs more space inside. The new traverse, Acadia, and Enclave are all 204-208in length!! Even cars like the the new pilot, Grand Highlander, Atlas, etc are all now 200+ inches long. The full size category is officially 210+ inches long. Aside from the new Sequoia which isnt even full size in my book. It's just a horribly inefficiently designed midsize car lol. Great towing capacity though
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
Well, the Traverse and its twins are all FWD-based transverse-engined vehicles, whereas the Escalade/Tahoe/Yukon are RWD-based longitudinal-engined vehicles. So packaging plays a big part. But yeah, it made sense to increase the length of the BOF SUV's to give 3rd row passengers more space. But how many customers out there were truly considering either the crossover or SUV?
WatchStoredInAss@reddit
99% of full size SUVs and trucks I see on the road have 1 driver towing/hauling exactly nothing but their asses.
velociraptorfarmer@reddit
Because I use the shit out of it on the weekend? I've had the bed completely full 5 different times in the past month alone.
elinyera@reddit

Save the whining for r/carscirclejerk
I8ASaleen@reddit
That's how I felt in an Acadia last week that I rented. Strangest 3rd row experience. Slow, heavy, terrible brakes, small storage area even with the seats down. What a joke, I guess if you need a 3rd row and don't want a Kia it would suffice.
huhwhat90@reddit
Armadas (Armadi?) seem like a stupid good deal used. I've seen low mileage versions for sale in the low $30,000s in my area.
calcium@reddit
I'm flummoxed by the idea that someone is going to pay nearly $60k for a base model Nissan.
DonCactus@reddit
It's a flagship SUV, what do you people expect?
BTTWchungus@reddit
Compare that to the price of other BOF SUVs
el_ostricho@reddit
As opposed to a nearly $60k Tahoe?
DetectiveNarrow@reddit
If you can get over the exterior styling those QX80s are absolute steals too
sirbleep@reddit
I have also noticed that in my area as well. They're substantially cheaper than a comparable Tahoe. I've seen a lot of well equipped CPO 2021+ (refreshed) Armadas for $30-35k whereas a comparable year/mile/equipment Tahoe runs $45-50k. Plus, the Armada has a more powerful 5.6 V8 vs the Tahoe's 5.3 V8 (with problematic cylinder deactivation) which is better for towing, but admittedly worse for gas mileage. Granted the price difference should go quite a ways to compensate for the worse gas mileage.
If I were in the market for a full size SUV, a CPO Armada seems like a great value pick.
All that said, the awesome value of a used one makes me worried about the depreciation on a brand new one. We'll have to see if the new model Armadas have a less brutal depreciation curve for the first owner.
mungie3@reddit
" Powering the 2025 Nissan Armada is a twin-turbo, direct-injected 3.5-liter V6 engine. Rated for 425 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque9, the VR35DDTT engine offers an additional 25 horsepower and 103 lb-ft compared to the V8 in the outgoing Armada."
I was looking for fuel economy numbers, but they're all TBD
LimitedReach@reddit (OP)
I’d assume slightly more than the redesigned QX80 that has the same new engine but with more power.
mungie3@reddit
Fair assumption. I didn't realize there was a qx80 update. So 16/19 mpg using premium fuel.
LimitedReach@reddit (OP)
No, Armada is tuned to use regular fuel
JaspahX@reddit
It's probably detuned on regular fuel. The same thing Ford does with their forced induction engines.
Those HP and torque numbers are definitely with premium fuel.
LimitedReach@reddit (OP)
No it’s not. The reason that the QX80 has more power is because they specifically tuned the Armada to use regular fuel vs the premium fuel that the QX80 does.

JaspahX@reddit
Yeah, this is how it works. They will all run on regular gas, but they recommend premium because the ECU will detune them to run on regular. Those advertised figures are 100% with premium fuel.
LimitedReach@reddit (OP)
The specification sheet of the QX80 specifically points out that they require premium fuel, why wouldn’t they say the same here then?
The previous generation Armada also recommended regular fuel while the QX80 did.
hiyeji2298@reddit
Inferred octane torque maps have been around for a decade or longer. There’s really no need to “re-tune” for premium fuel. Most likely the numbers are derived from the high octane map. Paying for third party calibration services isn’t cheap and Nissan isn’t exactly flush with cash.
FWD_to_twin_turbo@reddit
The Titans do the same it's nothing new, it worked the exact same in every V8 Nissan/Infiniti product and i dont doubt it will continue.
The 400hp 5.6 in the Titan? Only on premium, regular unleaded gets you 390hp.
The EXACT same tune was in the QX80 5.6, Nissan just slyly "omitted" the part where you can use regular unleaded in the QX80 and instead recommend premium only to give the QX80 and "edge" over its more resonable sibling at the time.
The Nissan Armadas got marketed with 390hp before 2021 iirc but if you stuck premium in the 2019-2020 models it defaulted to the same 400hp tune. 2021 and up got marketed at 400hp but they made sure to tell you that you can used regular (like a peasant).
All this to say Nissan recommendations usually dont mean shit, it's just marketing, use what you want in them.
JaspahX@reddit
Different markets, if I had to guess. Saying it will run on regular gas is probably a lot more palpable to the average Nissan buyer.
Otherwise I guess we wait to see when someone throws them on a dyno. :)
Carfr33k@reddit
You are correct.
animealt46@reddit
ECU detuning on lower grade fuel is often not as much as the paperwork implies.
joshjcc@reddit
Nope. I just drove one for a couple weeks. It states “premium fuel only”

TwelveTrains@reddit
Can you imagine paying $56k for this languid trash barge of shit? Who is buying cumbersome vehicles like this? Who is enjoying stuff like this? It's heavy, gas guzzling, lumbering, ponderous, and lethargic. Vehicles like this handle like the wheels are on sideways.
What reality is this?
velociraptorfarmer@reddit
Better than paying over $100k for the check engine light with wheels that is the Grand Wagoneer.
LimitedReach@reddit (OP)
I see many expensive full-size suvs on the road, so to answer your question, many people!
TwelveTrains@reddit
They might be expensive but at least they absolutely suck to drive.
(And have abysmal pedestrian safety ratings)
LimitedReach@reddit (OP)
Who cares?
They still sale plenty of them. Just because they don’t appeal to you doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t exist!
TwelveTrains@reddit
Then explain the appeal to me instead of just saying.
"They sell! Get over it 😊"
Do you think we have no responsibility to maybe regulate something that provides no benefit to commuters and instead just makes the world a worse place? SUVs burn more fuel than cars by a long shot, what a great attribute to have in a world barreling towards disaster due to climate change. In the last 15 years we have seen pedestrian fatalities skyrocket as SUVs sales have skyrocketed. Visibility our roads has been reduced. Road surfaces are taking way more of a beating from SUVs and wear out quicker. Anyone in a collision up against an SUV is going to have a much lowered chance of survival. The added weight of SUVs means significantly worse braking distance, which is only magnified on ice in the winter, causing even more deaths.
Just because something sells well that is complete and total justification for allowing it to exist? What if landmines start going on sale and become extremely popular with the public? Would your response be, "Yeah, I know a bunch more people are dying because of these but people want them and they just sell so well!"
Give me a fucking break. Is anyone on this planet capable of making decisions that actually help humanity?
inmyunderpants@reddit
Agreed. All these people buying Mustangs, Camaros and GTI's and such. More horsepower than they'd ever need, burning way more fuel than necessary. Stickier tires shed more rubber that ends up in the ocean. These people could easily own a Prius and get double the gas mileage or bicycle maybe. Are any of them capable of making decisions that actually help humanity?
peakdecline@reddit
They replied to you and then blocked you. Its shit behavior, they've got to get the last reply in and can't handle a response.
TwelveTrains@reddit
My GTI gets nearly 40 mpg. There is something called balance in the world but I wouldn't expect a redditor posting bad faith arguments to understand that.
Bigbadbrindledog@reddit
My family grew up with suburbans. We boated and camped so instead of a pickup and family vehicle we had a Suburban and smaller car.
Many of those who buy them will never use them, but they definitely have a purpose.
LimitedReach@reddit (OP)
You typed all of that for what? These SUVs are still gonna sale regardless of whether you like it or not. Lol
INM8_2@reddit
families with a few kids that need space for cargo?
TwelveTrains@reddit
So a use that a wagon or van fulfills better?
INM8_2@reddit
define better. 2 kids in car seats and you have no room left in a wagon for a third or anybody else. a van is the only thing close, but your listed problems also applies to them.
korko@reddit
$56,000 “good entry point”. Fucking hell people live very different financial lives than I do.
gplusplus314@reddit
I found the one sane person in this thread!
DharaniPatel@reddit
isn't a $1900 destination charge kind of steep for a nissan?
gplusplus314@reddit
I think it’s funny that destination charges are even legal. It’s a junk fee and should just be priced-in to the vehicle.
llamacohort@reddit
Does the brand of vehicle matter much for transportation? I have never looked that closely into it, but I always assumed that it was dictated by the amount that can be loaded on a truck and the weight of the vehicle.
DharaniPatel@reddit
I'm not sure. I feel like I've seen exotic cars with extremely high destination fees. Though instead of weight perhaps that's paying for covered transport and addtl insurance.
llamacohort@reddit
Yep. Closed transport is more than the standard open transport that normal brands use.
Looking at other brands, this is what I see:
Tahoe - $1,995 Expedition - $1,995 Durango - $1,595 Sequoia - $1,945 Wagoneer - $2,000
LimitedReach@reddit (OP)
Sequoia has the same destination cost and the Nissan still undercuts it and the others by thousands.
Also, the Armada is built in Japan hiking up the destination cost.

Even though the base price of the new Armada is the same as the outgoing base SV Armada, the two other pre-existing trim levels are more expensive.
Per Car and Driver, the SL is $2630 more expensive than the 2024 model, while the Platinum is $1340 more expensive than the 2024 model. The two other trim levels, Pro-4X and Platinum Reserve, are new for 2025.
Myusername468@reddit

Because the market of Americans who will only buy an off road SUV and the market of Americans who will only buy full size SUVs has a very small overlap.
And even then that overlap wouldn’t use both those things at once

Let’s be real. Nobody wants a base model of one of these. The actual average MSRP of the majority that get built will probably be $70k+. And at that price point I just have a hard time justifying it over really anything else in that class.
LimitedReach@reddit (OP)
You’ll be most likely to get a deal on one of these over almost anything else in the class and I’d for sure take it over the poor attempt that Toyota did with the Sequoia.
It’s hard recommending it over a Tahoe unless you get a good deal but it’s class competitive with just about everything.
The only thing wrong with this is the Nissan badge. It has nice power, fancy interior, competitive interior dimensions, etc.
