Is anyone living/has anyone lived in the Belvarosi alberlethaz dorm?

Would like to ask how was your experience - are the rooms too tiny, how are the common spaces, cleanliness, noise, is the amount of kitchens sufficient for residents? Thanks!
wilderwein22@reddit
This is Budapest, not Hongkong, unacceptable.
Universal-Suffer-453@reddit
Very good methapor, Hong Kong was just partly free from chinese dictature till a some years ago when the chinese claim it back. Now HK is an integral part of the dictatoric shit ccp.

Yes I lived there, this is in semmelweis street 5. If you have questions you can turn me with that.
neat_hairclip@reddit
Everyone is saying how expensive it is - okay… but it is hard to find short term rents (less than a year), and it is harder to find a place as a foreigner + you do not have the time to check places before…
Do not let others convince you that you are stupid to stay here! Yeah it is somewhat of a rip off, but apartment hunting is a pain in the arse. If you are only here for 5 months, maybe staying here, being in the center is more meaningful than spending the first month apartment hunting, a lot of headache…
Think of your preferences. If you are a social person and will be out a lot, do not cook much… why not? Seems convenient. Just wanted to add a different voice here too - for me it does not look like an all bad option…

I wish:D just had to witness a few people suffering from apartment hunting. A 5 months stay is hard to manage from this perspective.

I “enjoyed” it for 2 years - very close to everything, safe neighborhood but too tiny rooms, especially if you don’t know your roommate. The kitchen was not cleaned very often, and the receptionists did not really care about whom entered the building - I have seen homeless people once or twice… you can get a nice room for this amount of money anywhere else.
cly1337@reddit
no experience
this is a hole, I wouldn't..unless they are offering it for less then 70k huf per month...
cly1337@reddit
I checked.
Single room
130.000 Ft/person
+
45.000 Ft utilies/person (this is absolutely insane, for a room like this, utilities are around 1500Ft per month. they are ripping you off.)
So 175k, for this you can EASILY rent a studio appartment. I have two friends who rent an appartment each for less than 175k a month
Rooms in appartments go for 100k usually or so.
I have just visited an appartment for rent (it was a larger one, same level as the room in terms of age, new stuff) going for 220k total.
P1N4R0MB0L0@reddit
Just commit some major felony and you can get a bigger room than this for free.
oktogonifososkebab@reddit
I pay around 170k (utilities included) for a 35m2 fully equipped apartment near Városliget.
cly1337@reddit
exactly what I am saying.
baronessmavet@reddit
Wtf, you can rent an entire apartment,
This is meant to be a joke, or just pulling off money from foreigners.
HealthyWolverine9785@reddit
You can rent a studio or small apartment in Budapest for 500 euro a month.
_Katu@reddit
it's inner city.
justgassingthrough@reddit
I rent in inner city, not 5 minutes from parliament and i pay less for an entire apartment
chuchofreeman@reddit
I was paying around that for a huge room (20 or 25 m2) in a very big 2 bedroom apartment right on Kertesz utca with Wessenlenyi. Super central. This dorm is an absolute ripoff.
Hotdog-Dog@reddit
Even though it is inner city, it is still a rip off for 175k HUF.
Universal-Suffer-453@reddit
130k +45k
It is funny as fuck. xd
Few-Carpet9511@reddit
No, the utilities are not 1500 huf for a room, electricity, water, heating/cooling, wifi, and probably the common commodities (gym, camera system, 24/7 consierge, cleaning of common areas like kitchen, elevators) are easily way over that.
I do think the whole thing is pricey but not extremely overpriced for the location and that the gym is included. But I would rather rent a flat for that price if possible, foreigners especially if they have darker skins will probably have difficulties with that and will not be much cheaper but at least the room would be more than 3 m2
ToadSexOverload@reddit
i have a three room apartment in downtown Budapest and it's 210k with utilities included so 175k a month for this is insane lmao
iamjasonwa@reddit
I pay 160 for 2 big rooms fully equipped with literally everything and it has a 2 farm houses LoL
Tasunke_Witco@reddit (OP)
I'm all in for farm houses! Lol

DinosaurusRekt@reddit
I thought this was this expensive because you can rent it short term, but no. You have to sign 10 months contract. This is just a rip off for tourists. Also the price is in eur so it will definietly will cost more as forint/eur chart isn’t looking bright.
Tasunke_Witco@reddit (OP)
It's not that cheap, far from it actually. But the location is good and there's management/reception on site as well as you are not really risking to be scammed. Tried looking for dorms or colivings but couldn't really find anything and rented rooms feel scetchy when you can't check it out in person. I'm not sure what to do
cly1337@reddit
If you can't check it out in person its ofc a scam
you can use realestatehungary.hu (ingatlan.com in hungarian) or alberlet.hu
and there are many facebook groups with rentable appartments. for example: Kiadó Albérletek
Everything applies as in every country, you have to be smart.
This dorm you found is dumb af
Tasunke_Witco@reddit (OP)
Thanks ill check those out. I meant that I have no way of arriving sooner to check anything out, not that it's not available for viewing though.
chuchofreeman@reddit
It´s better if you arrive and rent an AirBnB for 1 or 2 weeks and check apartments personally during that time. Unless you can pay month by month this dorm is just wayt too expensive.
In Budapest plenty of rentals are announced only after the room or apartment is empty, so landlords are looking for people to move in ASAP.
vahokif@reddit
You could get an Airbnb for a month (many places give a discount), and find something while you're here.
Palanki96@reddit
Yeah i live here right now. I'll write more when i get back
Tasunke_Witco@reddit (OP)
I'd appreciate that, thanks!
Palanki96@reddit
okay so gonna try to answer, feel free to ask more
HealthyWolverine9785@reddit
You could rent a nice big room in a shared flat. Im a at a loss why anyone pays so much money.
Amazing_Amoeba_2784@reddit
175k/month or 175k/10 months?
Tasunke_Witco@reddit (OP)
A month :((
CorvidCorbeau@reddit
That's outrageously expensive, please don't sign up for this

I lived there for a few years through college, though some rooms allow for more space especially on the old building. The price isn’t great but definitely better than others. It really helped with getting adjusted to the city since it’s in the very center of it. The common areas are a nice place to hang out and are usually kept clean. My experience was that the kitchens and common washing machines weren’t always in the best state. I had a roommate but you should definitely ask if there are any single person rooms, they’re usually bigger, I had friends who just switched rooms to ones that suited them better. Hope this helps.
valochka@reddit
Is this supposed to be a room in the picture? It looks like a closet with a window and a tiny bed shoved into it. I saw someone mention it costs a lot too, so to me this looks like a scam. For that price, you can get a small apartment by yourself.
Few-Carpet9511@reddit
Based on the picture I highly doubt this legally qualifies as a half room which is at a minimum 6 m2, to qualify as a room it has to be over 12 m2.
This looks like at a max 4,5 m2
TheBapeO@reddit
Not me, but one of my friends last summer for about a month. Generally wasn't bad, just really small. The location was quite good, and a plus point was the gym in the building.
terabithiann@reddit
How long are you going to stay in Budapest and when will you get there?
Anything you can book through a website is going to be much more expensive unfortunately.
Tasunke_Witco@reddit (OP)
I'm gonna stay for 5 months, starting from the end of January
Alarmed_Station6185@reddit
It says on the website that the minimum stay is 10 months so I don't think it's going to work for you anyway
Tasunke_Witco@reddit (OP)
They changed it to 5 months
terabithiann@reddit
It is impossible, in my opinion, to find a room if you are not in the city. All the sites online will be overpriced.
I stayed with United Erasmus Housing for a semester and then moved to a better/cheaper place. It won’t be the best option but it’s better than the one you shared. They have many apartments but try to find one that has less rooms, otherwise it will be a mess. They have shared rooms as well that are cheaper.
cly1337@reddit
You just mentioned that you will be staying here for 5 months from January? So I quickly found a solution, but you can search for other places aswell
January 1 - March 30 (so 121 days) for a FULL TOTAL (no deposit) 2 586€ (billed monthly) avg 577 € /month >!(sometimes less, more but total for 121 days is 2586.)!<
website is FLATIO its for short term renting in Budapest, the website has very nice reviews.
Rent Budapest from 577 €/month, VII. kerület - Flatio
cly1337@reddit
While it is more in total than your budget was (175k) you have around 10x times more room, own kitchen, own everything.
This is also bookable, like that scam place you mentioned.
But its much cheaper to look at the groups, websites I mentioned. Goodluck
Tasunke_Witco@reddit (OP)
Thank you, I'll check it!
Alarmed_Station6185@reddit
Oh my god, that is bleak. Not enough room to swing a cat
Worried-Gene1606@reddit
Brother DON’T take this for 175k
Szecska@reddit
Even a prison cell is bigger 😂
ironikko@reddit
I stayed there back in 2020, management was a mess, kitchens were shared by the entire floor and usually dirty, and I think it was really overpriced compared to other options.
The only good thing about it , it was in a good location.
Far_Cow_1417@reddit
that's insane! there are so many other better options in my way.
tootymax@reddit
I used to live there, but I think it’s very overpriced. For a tiny bedroom and bathroom it’s almost the same price as a studio flat you would rent which is in the worst case double the size of these rooms. The common areas are nice if you have friends who also live there, to get together but if you don’t know anyone there you won’t really use them that much I think. The gym area is also very small so a lot of times you would have to wait until someone leaves. The cleanliness is okay, in the common areas they clean regularly and they provide mops and vacuums for cleaning your own room. The common kitchens were always very dirty, since no one cleans up after themselves, and the cleaning staff doesn’t do it daily. Without knowing your financial preferences I would suggest to look for a studio flat near the city center which would be much more worth it. If you have no other options it’s fine.
