Endings

Do I think the boys are done? No. However, having seen every Top Gear dating back to before Jason Dawe, even the disaster that was Top Gear of the Pops, and Every Grand Tour...I have avoided Sand Job and One For tfe Road, until recently. Basically I'm not ready for the ride to end. This week I ventured to watch Sand Job. And while there were plenty of aspects greatly appreciated, such as the peek at Mauritania, which I will never likely see in person and seemingly for good reason. I find myself avoiding One For the Road because what if it is the end. I'm even having trouble watching The later seasons of Clarkson's Farm, not because its bad, its great. But the ride has to stop eventually. But every day I find myself saying...not today...and hoping for a surprise new season announcement. Whatever the future holds, these last 20 years have been amazing.

I think it’s over. It’s reached a natural end, and Clarkson discusses a few reasons why in One for the Road, including his views on an electric car future.
Tyler2191@reddit
There’s a Grand Tour-esque type show on an AppleTV called Long Way Up with Ewen McGregor where he is his friend take electric Harley’s and Rivian trucks from Patagonia, Argentina to Los Angeles worth a watch
ZeusManEpic@reddit
I can’t speak for others, though I only really watched it for Jeremy James and Richard. For example I’ve never watched an episode of the ‘new’ Top Gear.
sirmaddox1312@reddit
Another show to checkout is CTXP by Revzilla with Zack and Ari. It’s about motorcycles, but it has that Top Gear feel to the show and the hosts are great.
arrows20@reddit
Yeah this show is amazing nothing I’ve watched has come close to top gear except this one. Long way round is definitely the best one, long way down is good as well and long way up is a fun time. Ewan and Charlie are a great duo
jembutbrodol@reddit
Look, i love the trios, they can sit down and talk about kitchen furniture and i will easily watch it everyday
But their time is gone.
They are far past of their prime time
And each of them already have their own stuff
Clarkson is doing Farming Simulator in real life, James is doing his best with making Gin, and Hammond is doing his small cog.
I rather watch each of them doing happily rather than looking at James crash in his Evo
BluesyMoo@reddit
I fucking love watching James cook.
geek_of_nature@reddit
They're old men. They've been doing it for 20 years and feel they've said all there is for them to say on the subject. And Clarkson in particular feels the industry is moving somewhere he's just not interested in (electric cars).
Better to have a solid ending than for them to continue on not doing anything new.
BluesyMoo@reddit
I think the industry is moving in interesting directions, but not ones that Jeremy in particular can appreciate. I love the trio, and I'm moving on to the 2 Jasons and Throttle House.
budbay1@reddit
The sooner you watch it the sooner you can rewatch it! Times only going to go by so enjoy them while you can.
realaccount048@reddit
nice to know i'm not the only one. Maybe I'll watch it some day..

James and Richard just put a new video on YouTube this week. There will always be something. I’ve been a die hard fan since 2007 (series 10 when they first went to Botswana) and I promise One for the Road is excellent, with some terrific call backs that reward long time fans!
Enjoy it

I think 2007 is around the same time I started watching. That's when it first started showing up on BBC America. And then like many others I found finalgear.com after that and started watching the prior seasons. It was a great journey. I got to meet James May recently and didn't get any indications that the boys are likely done. The Grand Tour may be over but his general demeanor seemed to indicate that he had no plans of slowing down. I think they all three recognize that their personalities when they get together have something special that combines and they will continue to use that. Cars will always be involved on some level but especially Richard I think we're going to see slow down quite a bit. He's had too many injuries at this point to be going fast. I'd watch a show about them just drinking in a pub.
rzpogi@reddit
According to Clarkson, there might be surprises here and there, but don't expect they would be like back in their top gear or grand tour days.
They're old. With most cars now are either appliances or doesn't have the wow factor anymore, they don't want to force themselves to like the cars of today.
hockeyjmac@reddit
Yeah the surprises will probably be like the recent drivetribe video, a cameo on Clarksons farm or one of them brings a car to The Smallest Cog.
hamsterfolly@reddit
They broke up their own joint production company because they’ve said their done.
John_Philips@reddit
Grand tour with the trio is over. Theyre done for good. The grand tour itself is not. Amazon has said so. Clarksons farm season 4 will be dropping early next year and they’ve already started filming season 5
Awkward_Idea7828@reddit
I believe they are happy with the decision. My gut feeling is that maybe Hammond would have liked to have done a few more, but the other two were done. I grew up with Top gear in its Prime and will miss the shows, but with the back catalogue out there on Amazon and Iplayer they’ve left us plenty to enjoy. With most shows this successful I would have said expect the odd charity or Christmas special. So who knows there’s always hope, but with these guys it’ll only be if they miss it and each other.
devadander23@reddit
They’re done. Enjoy the shows

Know that when you do watch it, you will come away feeling content that it's over. They dropped all the extra gimmicks that sort of detracted from the later years. They just simply wanted to drive their perfect cars, on their favourite trip, reflecting on the road that got them there.
It was the perfect ending.
Blissachu@reddit
Yeah I have watched all but one for the road, every time I think, "ok today i'll watch it" I just can't get myself to do it. I just don't want it to end. It's a weird feeling. I grew up watching them on TG thinking "I can't wait until im old enough to drive, it's gonna be so fun". I guess im not emotionally ready to let them go just yet.

They're done with the whole Grand Tour/Top Gear type of activity. They will miss working with each other and will probably find something they can do that is as physically demanding on them
piercedmfootonaspike@reddit
It's definitely over. At least car programming-wise.
Nosstress@reddit
Funny, I still avoid watching One for the Road. I fear I'm running out of good shit. The problem is I loved the special episode and no other show comes close to that format. Until I'm really in the mood, I prefer rewatching old episodes.
TechInTheSouth@reddit
I just keep watching them over and over - it never ends for me.
Much like NPR's Car Talk. I still listen to it every week. In my head, Tom and Ray Magliozzi are still in that studio every week.
Same thing with Top Gear/Grand Tour. I willfully ignore there will never be any new, regular content (if any) with the trio. Fortunately, there is enough content of them across the two shows (plus their individual efforts) that the reruns don't get stale.
Expensive-Analysis-2@reddit
Its over. They had a good run. The ending was overdue imo.
Aceman1979@reddit
While this is true, One for the Road is absolutely rammed full of wink wink nudge nudge reference to future projects.
Superest22@reddit
It is?
Easywormet@reddit
Yes. The biggest one being Clarkson saying:
"No emails from Amazon begging us to stay?"
badatm4ths@reddit
They're still collating on YouTube. Richard went to James' pub the other day.
jimbo9878@reddit
I'm ok with it being done. They've completed their journey, we all went along for the ride too. I have started to re-watch Top Gear (then onto Grand Tour) from the beginning, it might take me over a year to finish along with all the other things I watch. But I'm pretty certain I will eventually watch them all again, hopefully with my son sometime. The journey has officially ended, but it never truly ends if you just watch them again and again.
ChaoticKiwiNZ@reddit
Personally I don't think they are done working together (Jeremy has even said he isn't saying no to working with them again) but I do feel that a "top gear/grand tour" styled show with them is done. They stopped the grand tour for a reason. I think that chapter is closed.
I do think that in a couple years we will probably hear about a one off project or series with the 3 of them doing something else together. They clearly like working together so I say give it a couple years and they will do something again.
BabylonSuperiority@reddit
It is the end, you should still watch One For The Road
Glunark2@reddit
James May and the dull men is good.
WeDoingThisAgainRWe@reddit
There is no what if - they've confirmed it several (numerous?) times themselves. It's done.
ztunelover@reddit
Don’t try to hold on to that past. Enjoy every morsel of it but don’t let your longing for it tarnish the ending. It will bring joy, it will bring tears. And most of all be grateful as a petrolhead you had the privilege of watching the greatest car show as it came out.

For some extra content, have you seen their dvd specials? Apocalypse or the perfect road trips for example?
PercentageLow8563@reddit
Yes, they're done.
