How common is it for Albanian women of Muslim background to marry Albanian men of Christian background?

I known religion is not a big issue at all in Albania. But still, Muslim women marrying non-Muslim men is one of the biggest sins in Islam.
So how often does it happen? Is it an issue at all? Does the topic ever come up?
What about Kosovo, where I heard people tend to be more religious?
Aromatic-Candy4360@reddit
I worked with Albanians from Albania and its common there because in their country they are proud more about the nation and not religion (Love that!) Albanians from Kosovo and Albanians from Macedonia are more like the rest of the Balkans (Its a big no no).
Dervish_Arjan@reddit
Yeah it’s been common in the south for a long time among the Labs, Myzeqars and Korcars
Regarding the Kosovars, at least those from the diaspora that I met, they will certainly not agree with that
Complex_Web9281@reddit
Albanians in Kosov there is no Kosovar nationality
Dervish_Arjan@reddit
Sorry if this seems rude, but there is nothing wrong with calling someone based on their region, they are as Albanians as the ones I mentioned
Complex_Web9281@reddit
There is we dont call ourselves Kosovars we are Albanians

Me ty jam. Po qfar kosovar more, shqiptar jena. Mire e ki

Stop talking non sense...

I’m from Korca and can confirm. Both my parents are different religions. One Orthodox, and one Muslim. Even myself I’m with a Catholic girl. Religion isn’t something we base our lives on. My mom is the most religious one and she has tattoos and drinks 😂
ManOfAksai@reddit
Albanians worship Albanianism.
I wish I too can become Albanian.
fruitandcheeseexpert@reddit
You answered it yourself, “religion is not a big issue at all in Albania” — you shouldn’t view faith in Albania in the traditional sense because it is an incredibly unusual country in that regard. This has never been an issue for Albanians in Albania, men and women with muslim last names marry men and women with Christian last names. I know Hoxha’s who are “orthodox” and Priftis who are “Muslim”.
The exception is Catholic Albanians from Montenegro - they tend to only marry fellow catholics (but that’s because they are the only truly pious group)
AnalysisQuiet8807@reddit
What about Albanian Muslims from Macedonia?
fruitandcheeseexpert@reddit
Sorry I forgot about them because they’re such a minority to me lol - YES, they are also pious and will only marry other Muslims (although I know many in the US who have not)! Albanians from outside of Albania in general are different than those from in the country, for obvious reasons
motopapii@reddit
They are a way larger group than Catholic Albanians from Montenegro. Like 20x bigger.
EVGAlemi@reddit
They also almost exclusively only marry Albanian Muslims or Turkish Macedonians
desertedlamp4@reddit
I know an Albanian man from North Macedonia living in Istanbul, he married a fully covered with the exception of face Turkish woman, found it a bit odd because most Turkish women I know don't dress like that..
fruitandcheeseexpert@reddit
Ok lol and? Your point in commenting this 4 times in the same thread? Obviously they’re two extremely religious people, they have those in every ethnicity and religion, it doesn’t mean they represent anything
desertedlamp4@reddit
I posted it twice. Okay
Analbanian@reddit
My cousin (nominally Muslim) married a Catholic girl, both from Kosovo, no issue or resistance from either side as far as I know.
I have one friend in the Netherlands whose dad is Catholic and his mom is Muslim, doesn't seem to be an issue either. The only thing that stands out is that he seems to 'switch allegiances' i.e. he'll attend church for a while, then start praying in mosques. Overall, I still wouldn't say he's particularly religious, as both are far from regular occurrences. Both his parents are also from Kosovo for what it's worth.
LegitimateStick7535@reddit
Depends the family you come from. My parents would freak out (and they will bc I’m not marrying Muslim). But my mother’s Muslim uncle married an orthodox Christian woman. Tbh they’re the most healthy couple in my whole family on BOTH sides but 🤷♀️
muscainlapte@reddit
How do they proceed with religious ceremonies, holidays etc? Do they do both, do them separately or are they religious only on paper?
LegitimateStick7535@reddit
I think they accompany each other for religious holidays. It’s quite sweet. But they’re not devout either.
Sweetnesschck@reddit
to me it seems like religion is not that of a big deal to albanians. serbians, croats and bosniaks seem more obsessed with their religion.
Eastern-Collection39@reddit
I think Albanians would freak out more if you marry a non Albanian
albanussy@reddit
Bold of you to assume that most people here know it's a sin in islam💀
Another_WeebOnReddit@reddit
Do Muslims in Albania and Kosovo, est pork, have sex before marriage and drink alcohol.
albanussy@reddit
Yes
desertedlamp4@reddit
My neighbor was a fully covered Turkish woman and married an Albanian man from North Macedonia, like not even most Turkish women I know dress like that..
fruitandcheeseexpert@reddit
Ok lol and? Obviously they’re two extremely religious people lol, they have those in every ethnicity and religion
tarn_198@reddit
Alcohol is popular here, we produce our own beer and wine and have sex
motopapii@reddit
Albanians are some of the most irreligious people in the world.
In Albania proper, it's very common and widely accepted, with some exceptions. It’s common for families to have members from different religious backgrounds, and interfaith relationships are very much accepted. It's not even something a lot of people think about. There is a minority who are more religious and may prefer not to marry outside their faith (mostly Muslims). Among Catholic Albanians, a very small number take pride and feel superior for having resisted conversion to Islam during Ottoman rule and avoid intermarriage with Muslims.
In Kosovo, over 90% of the population is Muslim. They are slightly more religious so there are more of those people who prefer marrying members of their own faith, but I think it's also quite accepted among Kosovars. I know a few Kosovars married to Catholic Albanians.
On the other hand, Macedonian Muslims, Montenegrin Albanian Catholics, and many in the Albanian diaspora are more religious, so interfaith marriage is less frequent in these communities. But I don't think it's a huge deal. None of them are as religious as many people paint them out to be.
shilly03@reddit
How come you‘re talking about Macedonian Muslims if the question is about Albanians?
wantmywings@reddit
Wife is Muslim background, I am Catholic. Religion is the least of our issues lol
SnooSuggestions4926@reddit
In islam its also common for people to marry their first cousin but hell will freeze twice before an albanian does that
in-the-name-of-allah@reddit
As an Albo from Albania; Super common.
Another_WeebOnReddit@reddit
way better than Lebanon
Xinpincena@reddit
You really do not have an idea of Albania right? My mum married an atheist and didn't have any problem. A christian which is even more similar in this regard is absolutely normal.
Always trying to figure out why many people depicts us as extremists.
cryptomir@reddit
Because most Albanians are extremely nationalistic?
Xinpincena@reddit
Tbh this is the last answer I was expecting, my comment was mainly about religion. But still your point is completely wrong. Albanians are on average as other Balkan nations, far less than some countries like Serbia.
Also, we are one of the countries with the highest emigration rate in all of Europe. The last thing I would call people like this in nationalistic.
cryptomir@reddit
I'm saying how others see you. Imo, Albanians are the most nationalistic people in the world. Obsessed with two headed eagle, obsessed with black and red color, aggressive toward all the neighbours, extremely tribal.
Those who are very nationalistic are usually very religious. I know that's not the case with Albanians, but you're an exemption. However, for most people nationalistic means religious, so I understand why someone might think Albanians are religious.
Xinpincena@reddit
Man really you should reconsider your opinion about Albanians. Of course we have dickheads but we are not worse than anyone. And to be fair this coming from a Serbian really sounds strange to me. In Albania there isn't even neither a right wing conservative party nor a nationalist party unlike Vucic, which was a POI with Miloshevic.
Still, it would be stupid by my part to consider all Serbians extremists because of a bunch of very vocal nationalist.
LoresVro@reddit
Sin? Eh not many care about that.
tarn_198@reddit
Nobody cares what is considered a sin in Islam, very few read the quran
jebiga_au@reddit
They’ll only know what is haram because their mothers told them so while growing up 😂
TheEagle74m@reddit
Very common, in Kosovo is common also to marry someone from different religion.
