What are your thoughts on Tulsi Gabbard possibly becoming Director of National Intelligence if she doesn’t get blocked by the Senate?

Her critics claim she’s a Russian asset and has no experience in intelligence and she’s been outspoken for her entire congressional career and since about her opposition to the PATRIOT Act and other surveillance programs by the government.
Onlone_Private_User@reddit
As long as there's less spying, I'm happy.
unwaivering@reddit
i like Tulsi for that reason. She has counterveilling views. She would like to see the surveillance state swallowed into the ground, I think. As would I!!
RealFuggNuckets@reddit (OP)
She gave the keynote speech about a year or two ago at the western conservative summit and spent half her speech railing against the intelligence community so I think there’s a good chance she’s going to tear a lot of it out if she can.
wgm4444@reddit
Anyone claiming she's a Russian asset should be woodchippered to increase average IQ.
RealFuggNuckets@reddit (OP)
If they were to push this law through I wouldn’t be fighting against it tbh
ConfectionFew6059@reddit
She is a current LTC with Top Secret..and possibly SSI.. she worked in Psy Ops.. which requires a very high degree of Clearance.. she will be fine.
goobersmooch@reddit
I’ve heard so many times that she’s a Russian asset and a Syrian asset.
Not a single shred of evidence has been displayed.
She has, however, demonstrated independent thought. That’s the real danger.
Schmitty42488@reddit
Her Twitter sure makes her sound like a Russian asset.
Schmitty42488@reddit
Why the downvotes? Would people like me to provide proof? Bc there are specific ways the Russian government words tweets, and hers sound very similar.
Rugidid@reddit
Fr
Dollar_Bills@reddit
There's evidence to the contrary as she's all on board with Israel. None of the brics nations are on that side.

Yes, she isn't perfect. She is one of the best picks that Trump has made in the realm of foreign policy.

MrGreenChile@reddit
She’s a LTC in the army in a public relations unit with a security clearance, so she’s been vetted by the FBI for the initial clearance and for every subsequent renewal investigations. The talk of her being a Russian asset are absolute drivel and an embarrassment for anyone spouting it.
HAIKU_4_YOUR_GW_PICS@reddit
Being echoed by the person who lost her DNC spot for aiding a Pakistani spy and the administration who has a literal Iranian administration official high up in the State Department.
They throw around Russian asset like they do racist/misogynist/transphobe.
jeph4e@reddit
She's not public affairs.
Blueskaisunshine@reddit
She worked in psychological operations according to wiki.
Guardian-Boy@reddit
To be noted, we (DoD personnel) generally don't get vetted by the FBI, we get vetted by the DCSA. The FBI rarely does ours unless there's overflow.
ElliJaX@reddit
For my SSBI I got a visit from an FBI agent before DCSA got the program from OPM, agreed though that it's pretty rare nowadays. However FBI still does investigations for the White House so I'd imagine she'll be getting a visit if she hasn't already
Guardian-Boy@reddit
My grandma got the same thing (when they were doing my contact interviews), mostly because there were no DoD or contracted people around since I am from a state with no real DoD presence, so they used the field office.
MrGreenChile@reddit
Thanks for the correction. 🍻

It's stunning that Gabbard was subject to this: Aug. 12, 2024, Hawaii News Now: Lawmakers incensed after former congresswoman, Tulsi Gabbard, placed on terror watch list. Unconscionable that TSA would impose this on a major American political figure and a former U.S. Representative.
TSA is out of control. There is talk that Trump is seeking some payback against some officials. The TSA officials who ordered this harassment of Gabbard, representing her as a potential terrorist, should be on that list.
SirLeepsALot@reddit
The hot pieces against her ask came out very coordinated and using the same talking points. That tells me that whoever gives msnbc and ilk their talking points, doesn't want her in that position. Which suggests she's a great pick.
rickyramrod@reddit
She isn't a warhawk and thinks we should stop borrowing billions of dollars to fund wars on foreign countries that have absolutely nothing to do with us or our national security, but do make certain defense contractors and their shareholders super happy. Ergo, Mr. Putin directly signs each of her paychecks himself and hand delivers them with a touching handwritten note. It makes sense when you think about it.
RealFuggNuckets@reddit (OP)
Whenever I bring up her getting promoted after the accusations came out they either laugh like that somehow undermines my point or they’ll just outright ignore it.
pansexualpastapot@reddit
I doubt she gets blocked by the Senate. They probably give her hell, but I bet she gets through.
I love the idea of her going from being on a terrorist watch list to being in charge of the list.
I have been a fan of hers since I learned about her. I disagree with her on somethings but I completely respect her positions because it's not a party line. She came to her conclusions on her own accord. She is intelligent and capable.
I wouldn't trust any other individual to protect our freedoms and rights, prevent illegal spying, and weaponization of intelligence against citizens than Tulsi.....or Ron Paul.
Sirous@reddit
I also don't agree with a lot of her Policies but started following her. There was just something about her early run that exuded honesty and competence, I guess. Hopefully she hasn't lost any of that and will do what is needed to be done.
PhotographMyWife@reddit
I gotta give her credit. She rocked into Congress at like 21. She got in before the democrat agenda took a hard left turn and had her eyes trained on staying as moderate and genuine as possible. When she wouldn't conform and "play ball", she started experiencing the hell that blue team could rain down. Instead of conforming to that pressure, she jumped ship. She has principles and I dig that.
I too disagree with some of her views but standing firm in her own shoes takes a distinct personality and dems don't deserve that personality.
pansexualpastapot@reddit
Exactly, that ability to stand firm is a level integrity lacking in most Government.
PhotographMyWife@reddit
I was always kinda wondering how she could be a dem. Then I'd hear a few significant views that aligned and I'd be like, "Ah! There it is." Plus her membership to the WEF. That's an automatic dismissal from me.
But, after I listened to her on a podcast or two and it was RAW Tulsi, I got a better perspective. Her interview on Shawn Ryan specifically kinda sold me. I'm a bit reluctant about those few things still but for someone with a liberal view, ODNI sort of makes it make sense. The IC is a pretty manipulative and lefty sort of community and she can play their game.
What she should be able to do there is ask for the reality of what intel is providing. As opposed to asking them to tell her what she or someone above her wants to hear. That requires values such as hers.
pansexualpastapot@reddit
I agree, I don't like her involvement in the WEF, and she does want to expand Medicare to all. Not a fan of that, but she holds those views from a pure perspective not because it's party lines. She weighed the alternatives and decided on her own. That's what I really like about her. She is unwavering in her integrity. She also doesn't condemn someone for not having the same ideas or coming to the same conclusion. She can have a civil conversation and agree to disagree in the end.
rofasix@reddit
She is one of the first who will put America’s interests ahead of the war party or the MIC merchants of death.
PhotographMyWife@reddit
I like her but as ODNI I'm not so sure. I think Joe Kent would've probably been a better fit there and Tulsi head of the VA or HHS since she's a medical officer. But that's just my thoughts.
The Russian asset thing is trash propaganda for haters to stir up. She's absolutely not that. Strap in though. We have four years of this made up BS to listen to.
King_Burnside@reddit
Damn she would have been perfect for VA.
YetAnotherCommenter@reddit
Agreed. Trump should've put Grennel back in charge of DNI.
PhotographMyWife@reddit
The DNI position requires a distinct personality. Tulsi has what I think it requires in that regard. Perhaps that's what scored her the job.
She stands her ground and she knows how to do so with tact and integrity. Keeping the cart behind the horse (so to speak) while keeping them moving effectively is the purpose of the DNI.
If she follows suit with how things have been, it would be surprising.
GullibleAntelope@reddit
Don't have an opinion on this, but it's stunning that this candidate and former House Representative was subject to this recently: Aug.
The TSA personnel who engineered this harassment of Gabbard, representing her as a potential terrorist, should be on that list.
Lakerdog1970@reddit
I think she’s a good pick. I always enjoy her whenever she’s on TV and she’s critical of the security state.
Of course the liberals chirp “Russian asset”……based on nothing?
I think liberals just assume the only way for a woman to advance is by having sex with people because that’s how it works in their party.
Gr8hound@reddit
She left the Democrat party so they’re just hurt. Anyone they don’t like is a Russian puppet, racist, Nazi, or whatever their insult of the day is.
Lakerdog1970@reddit
Yep. Notice how they never accuse anyone of being a Chinese puppet?
Suspicious-Duck1868@reddit
Bill said to his wife, “it’s only fair if I get to sleep around, too?!”
SolidStep4016@reddit
I was hoping for her to be SecDef, UNAmb., or VASec and Pete Heg. as VASec or in charge of FEMA.
dbackbassfan@reddit
She was (presumably illegally) put on the no-fly list or something like that. Therefore she now has an axe to grind with the intelligence agencies. I think that's why Trump is putting her up for that position - she'll be motivated to kick their asses. Whether you think that's a good thing or not, I'll leave up to you.
unwaivering@reddit
I really can't wait to hear the lecture she gives them all on the first day!
rofasix@reddit
The DNI job puts her in charge of the same SES & GOs who placed her on the Quiet Sky’s program watchlist. She’s the perfect pick to undo the weaponization of this program against private citizens. Her “crime” was not falling in line with the war party agenda. She’s seen the horrific cost of war as a boot on the ground. She’s perfect for the job as opposed to the political hacks, war mongers, & beneficiaries of the Mil-Industrial-academia types who thrive on killing, carnage, & destruction of those we decide are enemies of the US for reasons that often have nothing to do with US national security. Tulsi’s other “crime” was asking the ivory tower academics & war party to explain how a bankrupt, desperate, nuclear power is in the best interests of anyone. Remember US politicians want to bleed & humble Russia first forgetting how that worked out for the world when they did that to Germany after “The War to End All Wars.” Go Tulsi! “Get er’done!”
SolidStep4016@reddit
I know why she was out there. I just wasn't expecting it.
dbackbassfan@reddit
Fair enough.
RealFuggNuckets@reddit (OP)
I was expecting Trump to put her in as SecDef or SecState so while I’m very happy about the DNI position it wasn’t what I was expecting.
I didn’t expect Hegseth at all but I really think he should’ve been head of VA since that’s the issue he seems to care most about and much of his post military work has been with veterans.
benefit_of_mrkite@reddit
Hopefully she can advise Trump about not leaving top secret documents sitting around
unwaivering@reddit
Hopefully she can release most of the documents.
RealFuggNuckets@reddit (OP)
Yeah, I think she’ll be good on that. Probably more-so on declassifying them though.
ModusPwnins@reddit
My thoughts are we don't want a kook in charge of the spooks.
unwaivering@reddit
Only someone that will end them.
Coolenough-to@reddit
I'd like to see the intellegence services cleaned out. I know this means things will be more dangerous for a while, but I think it is worth it to get rid of those who are using these agencies to target Americans for political or other bad reasons.
Anen-o-me@reddit
She's a joke, but so is Trump.
A_Kilty_Pleasure@reddit
I support putting people with an axe to grind with agencies in charge of said agencies. Ideally it means we get actual change and not just the status quo. If any of Trump’s picks gut their respective charges as it seems they will it will be an absolute win for liberty. Realistically most of the damage done by these departments isn’t by the heads but rather by the bureaucratic drones beneath them. If the heads start to remove those drones and don’t replace them we’ll be better off for it.
SatoriSon@reddit
You are my kind of libertarian.
you_guys_are_mean@reddit
Genuinely been trying to figure out where these people will go work with the skills they currently have, could get pretty ugly. Wish someone was talking about a plan, even concepts of a plan.
beardedbaby2@reddit
I like what Tulsi stands for and trust she is more than capable.
motoyolo@reddit
I read a couple MSM articles about her being a Russian asset a couple days ago and the only thing I could come up with is that Hillary Clinton and Wasserman Schultz said she’s a Russian asset without any actual evidence.
And those two might be the two peoples opinion I care the least about.
Apparently she’s an Assad asset because she met with him in 2017 and also has talked about pretty much not being involved in regime change after watching how well that’s gone down in the region?
To me, it’s character assassination attempts by the establishment war hawk democrats, whose opinions should be crumpled up and placed up the DNCs ass.
One_Yam_2055@reddit
Tulsi resigned her position as DNC Vice Chair once it was clear that Schultz's fix was in to destroy Bernie in the 2016 primary so Hillary could ascend. But you won't hear that from the MSM.
motoyolo@reddit
You’ll just hear it from the book she wrote if I’m not mistaken lol
stray_leaf89@reddit
I wonder if it's grounds for a slander lawsuit?
garnorm@reddit
Those claims are a bit off. She was asking about those biolabs that were brought up soon after the invasion; it even was discussed in a senate hearing in March 2022.
Former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard starts asking questions about the labs
Gabbard has served for years in the US military and senate. She's Lt. Colonel for the US Army reserves and has high level security clearance bc of it... if she was a true threat and/or foreign asset, don't you think the military/intelligence agencies would've done something about it?
Learned_Barbarian@reddit
People who claim she's a Russian asset are either poorly motivated or need to have their heads examined.
notathug@reddit
Do you still believe anything the media or the politicians say anymore? Can it be any worse than what we're living with now?
RealFuggNuckets@reddit (OP)
No, I don’t and I supported and campaigned for her in 2020. I was asking people in this sub what they thought not for you to think I’m dumb enough to listen to the war machine.
ATCBob@reddit
Probably one of his best picks. People claiming she is a Russian asset are either morons are lying warhawks.
ArsePucker@reddit
The fact that this started as just a shitty diss comment by Hillary Clinton, but now people actually believe its true, is mind boggling to me…
Wespiratory@reddit
The MSM gets their marching orders/talking points from whatever Hillary says. They listen to her and then parrot it out to make it seem legitimate. They’re the propaganda wing of the DNC.
GangstaVillian420@reddit
Typically the latter
One_Yam_2055@reddit
"She's a known Putin toadie!"
"How so?"
"Its... known. Also, did I use toadie correctly? Jamie, can you pull that up?"
Pedromac@reddit
"everybody knows. It's a known thing."
What a loser that lady.
One_Yam_2055@reddit
MSM is infuriating. Tell a lie long enough and it becomes the truth, and they know that well.
Easiest example is the "Trump called Nazis very fine people" lie that was easily proven to a blatant lie the day they started, yet they still proudly say it casually to this day. Never seems to be a soul within the MSM who dares to ever challenge it.

I just saw that clip. Her body language showed a lot of insecurity when she got some pushback on her position. And then she goes on to say “I think she is the mother load of bad ideas. I’m pretty positive about that. Especially on Assad. But maybe I’m wrong. I don’t think I’m wrong.”
zugi@reddit
Ha! Got the reference as coincidentally I just watched that video yesterday.

That's why I said typically the latter. Yes, there are instances of morons parroting it, but it comes from the Clintons' and their puppetmasters in the MSM
saul_soprano@reddit
Typically both
Wespiratory@reddit
I really think that the people who are floating around the crap that she’s a Russian asset are quaking in their boots about her which is a good thing. They’re desperate to keep Tulsi from being able to see who’s actually compromised by foreign powers. They are absolutely terrified of honest and earnest people.
BlueStarSpecial@reddit
Her critics claim anyone to the right of Greta Thundberg is a Russian asset.
HastingsIV@reddit
The left claims everyone is a Russian asset as much as the republicans used to call everyone a communist. 60 years later we know that a shit ton of people were and continued to be marxists, but we are proving almost monthly that the "russian asset" smear has been a fabrication from democrat party operatives.
Its also clear that having people with experience in intelligence is clearly not a great attribute even if the position desires it as they are often part of the intelligence cabal or are in some way compromised due to their activity as an intelligence cog in the machine.
She is not the best choice, but as left leaning moderates go she is a way better option than huge swath of the field because she is persona non grata to the democrats, and not a lock step pro-trump republican, and she doesn't appear to be a neo con.
dukesilver91@reddit
I don’t think it helps that people like Dave Rubin, Tim pool and other Trump supporting content creators were being paid by Russia through tenet media and they were spewing Russian talking points.
Also, in trumps last term, several of his close associates did have ties to Russia that were shady at best.
While I agree that the left shouldn’t just call everyone a Russian asset, I really wish that Trump wasn’t so damn cozy with people who are involved with Russia.
HastingsIV@reddit
Certainly muddies the waters for sure, and makes it all the worse to parse what is actual pro russia propaganda, and what simply happens to be objectively true, and also good for Russia.
I think its largely about intent as well. I find it hard to believe that many western content creators are pro russia, in as much as they have been told," support this story and you get a pay check".
A lot of "Russian" talking points, are arguably true because of the shit the USA and the EU does, says, and programs.
I did go out of my way to listen to Tim Pool over the summer (did a lot of driving and decided to broaden my scope of pod casts to more pro trump folks to see their side), and I did not hear much that was pro Russia out of him.
Even Merick Garland, as corrupt as fuck as he is, stated the people involved were not aware that there was anyone on the Russian side of the organization pushing a pro Russian message.
At the end of the day though, it just means that a lot of supposed independent online journalists and content creators are still willing to not question some stories if it means a pay check.
Sirous@reddit
It is impossible to tell anymore who is or isn't in bed with Russia. Its always Russia, Russia, Russia. Most of what they were paid for were shows that barely got any views. Also there are some facts that regardless of the source need to be said and done. It really shouldn't matter who promotes it.
Hell the Steele Dossier was supposedly mostly Russian as well. How long until we go full McCarthyism and start rounding up everyone that has even talked to a Russian.
Roho_Kitnam@reddit
My two cents: At a minimum, Tulsi is an unwitting Russian ‘assistant.’ But to be frank, the same can be said of much of the leadership of today’s Libertarian Party. Where do we think the money and the motivation for the Rage Against the War Machine and the ANSWER coalition came from? Why would a Libertarian movement be so closely tied to hardcore Marxists? Why do we think there is such a motivated and well-funded movement to disarm Ukraine and unfreeze Russian oligarch money, and why in God’s name would American Libertarians support it? We need to stick to our ethics and stop letting foreign money and social media shape our focus. Oh, and Tulsi has been front and center (along with Sputnik radio) on these issues. But she has no feelings at all about US state governments tracking women using ad-data to monitor possible violations of abortion laws, or massive increases in regulation by GOP state governments. That’s not Libertarian, that’s selective policy endorsement for profit.
carlorossi11@reddit
If she really was a Russian asset I’m sure she would have been discharged from the military. They are baseless claims
