Buy a midrange machine, upgrade it with midrange components every 5 years. At least 2 components are always low end and entire machine is obsolete 1 year after upgrading.
Unfortunately I have to use a laptop, so upgrading is not easy. I have added more ram or more ssd, but that is the limit of what you can play with for laptops.
I know what you are dealing with. For a long time I just ran a laptop hooked up to an external monitor and keyboard.
I would suggest saving a bit of money and either building your own pc, or getting a used desktop on marketplace with a few good components and upgrading the rest.
A proper high range machine will be competitive longer than 5 years. That's like leasing a car every two years, it's not about performance so much as just getting a new car.
Awesome game but I never played the dlc for it. I was hearing some people a few months ago talking about how ubishit made it inaccessible now or stopped downloads or something. You know if that’s the case?
It was a little annoying because Ubisoft connect kept popping up but I found it I launched steam with my WiFi disabled it would launch fine. I already had the DLC tho so don't know if Ubi have made it un-purchasable, the seven seas are always an option of course.
Somehow I completely forgot that was even an option. I’ve actually never pirated a game since pc gaming has always been convenient and cheap enough, but with the way things are going it’s almost like they want us to pirate instead of purchase.
Hoyo games make me sad. They have the talents and skills to create games with such high quality but stuck with the horrible live service gacha model. Imagine a real game with that level of production value.

Best way to play them is to enjoy the quality with no/minimal spending and let all the whales fund the game for us.
Nah man, sure us consumers would have a better product, but in term of money the gacha system is undoubtedly ludicrous. Genshin alone pulled in a billion dollars last year. Even well established AAA titles can't compete with that.

BC2 is the best game in the series by a long shot. I can't understand why they were never ever to quite replicate it the gameplay. BF3 got there at the end when it was actually good.
Bad Company 2 is my favourite time playing a Battlefield game. Being able to destroy cover of enemy teams was a lot of fun. By the end of each game all of the houses were rubble.
It's great and has the best gamemode of all titles with Operations.
EA fumbled the launch though since you initially had no server customization options so no one rented servers which killed communities and led to less gameplay variety.
BF3 is still my favourite. The gunplay was peak, maps were great, class balancing was at its best and it at least tried making COOP content.
As good as BF1 may be it has of vertically due to the setting. The lack of vertically limits a lot of wacky shit you could've done in BF3, BF4 and Bad Company 2. No hate here, but you can't crown it best
If that's what you think that's what makes a BF game best, then that's your opinion. I think BF1 is the best because of it's art direction, sound design, balance and team play. Not that any of these elements aren't fantastic in other BF games but I think a lot of them are clearly the best in BF1.
I switched to BF1 this year after playing BF4 for years. BF1 is better. The trench maps give such an intense feeling especially if you have headphones on
Are the old battlefield games still active? And would it be too hard for a new player to get into it/ will everyone I’m playing against have 10 years of experience?
It depends, but yeah they're still decently active. Bf4 is more difficult but bf1 and v still have player counts in the thousands, on PC at least. Can't attest to console. And yes, you will be running into very experienced players, especially now that they have ended support and you'll play primarily on community servers, which are usually operated and payed for by clans. Unless you're cracked, you'll get curbstomped a lot of the time. Bf1 is the easiest to get into with more focus on positioning and team play than gunplay, and bf4 is the hardest being the opposite. Bfv is somewhere in the middle.
Always has been,
I played BF4, BF1 and BF5,
And for me,
BF1,
Just hits different compared to the others.
Although I would say it is still a Battlefield game overall with a WW1 skin but still.
Fantastic game nonetheless.
Although some things in BF5 are not my cup of tea but are acceptable enough for me to keep on playing it.
BF4 is my first Battlefield game, sadly I can't enjoy it anymore due to servers being strict with ping since I'm too far from the UeS of Aye🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅 servers and the ones closest to me are empty.
Lame. Bf1 was my first but some buddies convinced me on bf4 and battlebit, it helped during a sale on bf4 but since then no dice (pun intended). Really like some ideas of bfv but really hate others, like the reintroduction of how much more powerful assault was on bf4 with medic in bfv, with a powerful versatile weapon and infinite heals, and the vehicles are way more powerful in V. If I play bfv I almost always just go play bf1 and often have a better time.
The vehicles are nice in BF5 although I prefer BF1s vehicles because of how simple everything is. Especially the planes
My fav part in all Battlefield games are the planes with their Fly-by-wire controls.
BF1 I say has the most balanced planes with how they don't instantly die from an infantry weapon that 2 shots you from the ground or die to AA in 3 to 5 hits. And the planes not being that op to begin with (except the Heavy Bomber).
BF5 is the opposite in terms of balancing because you either get insane killstreaks with a plane because of how op planes are in general especially when you can unlock the upgrades. Or you can't even access half the damn map because of how op the AA guns are. It's a 50/50 per match on if you can play, stay up there and farm or n a h.
BF4 is just Jet Gameplay and Missile locks so nothing noteworthy there, still pretty fun tho since that's where I learned to control planes/jets and helis.
I'm not a tank player however so I can't give my opinion there. Although BF5 has better tanks overall.
It is kind of the same thing with heavy bombers, if you have a team that knows to shoot that shit out of the sky they usuaually can't do anything, but with the amount of health they have if you aren't dedicated to it your team is getting bombed. But yeah, I guess planes just feel more oppressive if you roll that 50/50. Used to be a bit of tank player in bf1 and that's a 50/50. They have a ton of firepower but with no rotating turret (except for the ft17 but that has less health and no extra guns or spawn points), being slow as fuck, and assaults having the arsenal of a bunker if your team doesn't watch the flank you will get shredded before you even know it.
Imagine my shock. I guess I'm kind of the same way with 2042... I think we all just have a soft spot for our particular favorites because we remember our first "battlefield moments" so fondly.
First of all, it meets enough of those. Second, Jesus need. Rougelike is colloquially know as a game with permadeath and a simple loop that you restart everything you die, typically keeping some for of permanent upgrade/unlock.
Is it actually good? I've been making fun of that being a scam for a long time, and from seeing the screenshots it just seems like a Hearthstone clone.
We all have. But nah, the madman did it, it's actually good. Took him about 6 years too long, but the game is excellent. Well designed, pretty, addictive and fairly original. It looks like HS art-wise but plays nothing like it. Give it a try in a couple weeks when the open beta starts, or in Jan when it releases proper
Satisfactory has been draining my life lately. I don't need sleep, I need to find more raw resources and figure out how to deliver them to the factory and then deliver product somehwere else.
Started playing Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for the first time. First metroidvania I've played, too. It's leagues more fun than I thought it'd be, but I admit that I've had to use a guide every once in a while
Check out Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It's the spiritual successor made by the same game director (Koji Igarashi) after Konami decided they wanted to make Castlevania suck.
Yeah we need to be more careful from now on. Westeroids are evolving and have learned to recognise our power. We can no longer just easily steal. Even worse is that the Westerners have bought in African and their economies are stagnant so we not only have theft rivals but they are also no getting richer so its harder to steal.
Overall it is a though time for the brave patriots of the Romanian forigen legion when it comes to brining plunder to the fatherland.
That game is awesome. However, master strikes being locked behind a tutorial that you have to explicitly seek out or you straight up don't have the mechanic unlocked is dumb as hell.
I'm replaying Dragon Age Origins after the new one kinda looked like slop, I honestly didn't like it super much the first time I played it as a mage, now doing a dual weapon rogue and it's super fun.
I quite like kf2. It's unfortunate the devs are ruining kf3 by obsessing over making it a CoD hero shooter despite literally everyone in their fanbase begging them not to and them saying their "data" or whatever thinks they should
It's like heroin. A spiritual sequel to FTL, it's a mod. Been receiving huge constant updates for 5 years now. Active community. And coincidentally, the minimum specs are a Gen 2 iPad, but I play it with my 3070.
I've been getting back into Tropico 6. I've been building this island on coral Rojo to be a militant theocracy, and i have almost a 100% approval rating somehow.
I’ve been having a lot of fun with dark souls series. Not new by any means but still fun and the multiplayer is actually still pretty active on ds3 and remastered.
I need to find more games that are good on the steam deck
You made me scroll through this shit irrelevant thread on my phone , just so I can see some actually relevant replies. I wish bad things to happen to you.
Rain World, Titanfall 2 multiplayer still slaps, Project Zomboid.
But best of all games to come out recently is Barotrauma, by miles. I can overdose on fentanyl and opium while blaming the medic for not locking away the good stuff.
Started Persona 4 Golden, it's been helping me during my exams ngl. I also played Disco Elysium but I stopped an hour in because I realized it's too time demanding for now
Lol before that i used my father's old work pc for nitrome games. Used to also play binding of issac rebirth/antibirth, i still recall how using brimstone would lower my frames.
I got my pc in like 2016 and haven't upgraded it or really touched it up at all since. It runs fine for watching YouTube and playing indie games which is all I need tbh
I pay for gigabit internet, my old PC was ssd and downloading things I never saw anything over 100mbit, since moving to a single 4tb m2 nvme I get 1gbit or more
I shelled out a bit more for a gen5 just for a bit of future proofing, maybe that helps as well, but yeah I actually have a pc that can handle the internet I pay for lol
I had my 1070 and i5 4690 setup for 8 years but few months back I got 7900 GRE and 7800x3d. Did a lot of research on this and I think I landed on the best bang for buck in my budget. First time going all AMD and can't recommend it enough if you don't give a shit about ray tracing like me.
Yeah I had no real limit on budget but honestly just didn't think the 4090 was worth the extra price over the 4080 super, and really I just wanted something that'll last me another 10 years.
Funny really with all the change to AMD people are doing these days, I remember my first pc ~14 years ago was all AMD and oh man it was so crap, so unstable. As soon as I got the money I had to switch to Intel.
Nowadays it's the opposite, AMD big in the game and Intel suffering with poor manufacturing
Yeah I'm kinda sick of hyper realistic graphics that require expensive setups for the time to run only to then become obsolete in a couple of years looking like shit compared to the new standard.
Plus it's no secret a lot of games with hyper realistic graphics put more effort into the graphics than basic playablity only for when the graphics become obsolete the playability problems get more noticeable since the wow factor isn't there anymore.
Games that go for more artistic art style like cartoon, anime, pixel, and others not only look good even a decade later, but the overall gameplay tends to be more polished since the devs spread the money around more.
Microsoft flight simulator 2024 says i am between minimum and recommended specs (and obv not near ideal specs) .... but i can still play apex legends and basically all games on medium or even high gfx on my 5 year old thin/tiny 2060 laptop
best laptop ever, i got it right before covid where everything got more expensive. i was seeing the same spec laptops 2 years later for a more expensive price lol
it still kicks ass, i will see how it runs microsoft flight sim 2024 because that is a damn beautiful game
Modern gaming has become more about selling PC parts than it has about the actual games. There was a significant downturn in games since the gtx 20 series came out
I remember being impressed by metro exodus when playing it at launch after i bought RTX 2070, and it's like video game graphics on average have stayed at that exact same level since but you still need a ridiculous setup to run some of these new games at proper FPS. Feels like a scam.
It was so weird when that Amanda the Adventurer game couldn't stop lagging and running low fps in general no matter what I did on my 4070. Uninstalled.
Cloud gaming subscription that gives you access to the latest gaming rig is way cheaper than upgrading your PC every 2 years just to play the latest games.
If you only play single player games then latency is not that big of an issue in cloud gaming.
Every 3-5 years for me. I went with a 680, 8 GB of RAM, and a 3770K in 2013, then 3 years later, I swapped to a 980ti and upgraded to 16 GB of RAM. That PC held me through for another 7 years with most games running on high/medium settings on 1080p at 60FPS (excluding any unoptimized games or AAAs that are demanding graphically like RDR2/Cyberpunk/A Plague's Tail Requiem/etc).
I upgraded my monitor to a 1440p,165hz one and built a new PC with a 4080 and a 13770K last year, and it will probably hold me over for another decade of gaming.
The game devs in 10 years be like "why don't we just train our enemy AI to be customized to each player's reaction time on their computer while they're playing, minimum spec RTX 6090
My monitors have been turning green while browsing internet and shit like that so yeah I think I’m overdue for an upgrade. But I don’t know if I care enough.
Game developers requiring more and more powerful hardware to run games that are poorly optimized. Graphically aren't that great . I'm on a Rx 6800 (non xt) not upgrading anytime soon. 1080 high ir even medium is enough for me.
I was running a DDR2 Pentium E5500 Dual core, 4GB RAM, Gtx 660 (upgraded after Gtx 275 burned down cuz the Zotac fan was garbage) until 2 years ago when I got a DDR4 5800x3d, Rtx 3070ti, 32 gb ram...
Playing GTA V on more than 720p and intentionally picking the slowest car because when running the fast ones, the map couldn't keep up loading was a fairly noticeable jump...
And yet aside from occasional Fortnite I got to playing really old games. Og Baldur's Gate, Crusader Kings 2, Dawn of War...
The only new one I enjoyed was Space Marine 2, but I'm not a multiplayer guy so I only played the campaign.
The last fps I played was Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and I enjoyed it for what it was... even tho I didn't know what a ping was and assumed that bigger number means better and kept wondering why I keep getting kicked.
I still have my GTX 1080, I wanted to buy a 4070 Ti Super but, looking at the games I'd want to play, the only game that would really use it would be Wukong. I was hyped for MH Wilds but it looks like shit anyway. I guess I'll wait for the 5070 or whatever.
Brother I wish I had a PC that appeared on the minimum requirements, y'all spoiled thinking you need last gen hardware to game, I've heard stuff like "you've never played x if you haven't do so in a 4k tv" while crying about bad optimization cause they can get stable fps over 120, I only want to play modded Minecraft at more than 15 fps, be able to work on unreal engine and maybe activate msaa on some games as a treat.
i doubt there is much left in the tank for necessary increases to performance, before it was obvious that you could use more raster performance, but now its just icing on the cake, I feel that devs will likely aim to have a reasonable minimum spec as GPU upgrades become fewer and farer between. Ray tracing is stil a ways a way from being super main stream and there is a high likely hood people will opt for stylized over photo realistic graphics.
The real race is going to be for efficiency gains if we end up with gpus that get similar raster and ray trace performance at a quarter the power consumption I could see demand for that in more consumable items like laptops.
I skip like 4 or 5 generations of gpu. Mostly because I haven't played a game in 2 years and I don't really do anything on the pc but work and playing episodes of Bluey for the kids.
Every 4 years or more, depending if theres a need. Gamer addicts that have money , and have to play every new game be it good or bad, probably do it way more often.
I've built my own PC since it's cheaper than getting a prebuilt one. Or at least, for the price it costs you can build a way better one. And i'd say a decent PC should last many years, but I think I get a small upgrade maybe once every 4 or 5 years. I think 6 years is the longest I've gone without getting at least a small upgrade. Doesn't have to cost much to get some extra RAM or SSD storage space. The graphics card upgrades are definitely pricy though, so I usually don't get the newest stuff available and definitely not at full price.
I did builds when I was a kid and when I was a broke student, but for my latest I just went for a prebuilt. I was already paying for a 4090 and everything else anyway, and getting the prebuilt was maybe $200 more than parts and doing it myself. I saved myself the time and hassle, and got a decent warranty as well. Totally worth it for me.
Fair enough. At least you did the calculations and decided you didn't want to put in the work to save the $200 when you're already spending big.
Hope you enjoy your 4090! Thing is the size of a refrigerator, but the power is absolutely there!
Learning to build a pc is the way to go. you not only get your money's worth but also have at least some awareness of how to fix your own PC. the prebuilt ones are generally more fancy looking and been test out before being shipped to you but they charge a premium for that and sometimes the hardware in prebuilt ones is cut corners. I'm always pissed when my mates tells me its too difficult to build your own PC(yeah of course they never tried) I was like cunt if you that shit is easier than getting a licence lol
Too damn right. I definitely understand that it may look a little intimidating at first, but I managed to build one in my early teens after just watching a one hour video of someone building a PC and explaining what all the parts look like and where they're supposed to go. I really think anyone could do it if they do a little bit of research. If anything, saving hundereds of bucks should be motivation enough.
So far I’ve always bought a high end ish gpu and wait many years to upgrade. Went from a 650ti to 370 radeon something to a 1080.
The 1080 is still going strong so I plan to wait for 5000 series. Cpus last a bit longer imo
Definitely. I'm legit surprised by how much the 1080 can still handle. It's from 2016 so it's not ancient or anything, but tech moves fast and AAA games are getting more demanding. I recently went from a 2060 to a 4070 ti which should set me up for quite some time. Thought I'd get a slightly fancier upgrade since I have to work with game engines and 3d modeling software now.
There is an infinite supply of old games on my backlog for me to play that are better than anything new coming out, so my poorfag laptop will last me at least another decade.
I'm not sure about you all, but I usually save up money whenever it's possible and get high-end electronic hardware. I just got myself a 4090 at the beginning of this year and an iPhone 14 Pro two years ago. This stuff is expensive, but I can see that for the next 5-8 years, I will stick with what I have and use these on a daily basis. If you take good care of your electronic hardware, it usually tends to last for years(maybe replace the battery for your cellphone at some point).

Are the old battlefield games still active? And would it be too hard for a new player to get into it/ will everyone I’m playing against have 10 years of experience?
Y_3_3_7@reddit
It depends, but yeah they're still decently active. Bf4 is more difficult but bf1 and v still have player counts in the thousands, on PC at least. Can't attest to console. And yes, you will be running into very experienced players, especially now that they have ended support and you'll play primarily on community servers, which are usually operated and payed for by clans. Unless you're cracked, you'll get curbstomped a lot of the time. Bf1 is the easiest to get into with more focus on positioning and team play than gunplay, and bf4 is the hardest being the opposite. Bfv is somewhere in the middle.
Inevitable_Heron_599@reddit
Bf1942 is still the best i don't care what anyone says
Y_3_3_7@reddit
I respect that. Can't even pretend to be old enough to have played 1942. Probably a great reason why you like it
Inevitable_Heron_599@reddit
You could use ships, tanks, planes, arty, and felt very real.
Jonel_Pro@reddit
Always has been, I played BF4, BF1 and BF5, And for me, BF1, Just hits different compared to the others. Although I would say it is still a Battlefield game overall with a WW1 skin but still. Fantastic game nonetheless.
Y_3_3_7@reddit
Mastapiece. Bf4 and Bfv are great too, though
Jonel_Pro@reddit
Yeap2,
I enjoyed BF4 and BF5 very well.
Y_3_3_7@reddit
Jonel_Pro@reddit
The vehicles are nice in BF5 although I prefer BF1s vehicles because of how simple everything is. Especially the planes My fav part in all Battlefield games are the planes with their Fly-by-wire controls.
Y_3_3_7@reddit
Jonel_Pro@reddit
Yeap2 that's all true.
BanzaiKen@reddit
Its alot better on servers that force rifles to everyone except engineers and medics. So much carnage in the trenches.
toshineon2@reddit
If it makes you feel better I told those people back in the day that BF2 was the last good one.
Y_3_3_7@reddit

Thezza-D@reddit
We all have. But nah, the madman did it, it's actually good. Took him about 6 years too long, but the game is excellent. Well designed, pretty, addictive and fairly original. It looks like HS art-wise but plays nothing like it. Give it a try in a couple weeks when the open beta starts, or in Jan when it releases proper

MausBomb@reddit

I upgraded my monitor to a 1440p,165hz one and built a new PC with a 4080 and a 13770K last year, and it will probably hold me over for another decade of gaming.

but are they really the minimum specs doe?

The game devs in 10 years be like "why don't we just train our enemy AI to be customized to each player's reaction time on their computer while they're playing, minimum spec RTX 6090

RashFever@reddit

It's usually new-ish budget or mid-range stuff. You just kinda have to guess if your xx90 and xx80 is equivalent to the newest xx70 or whatever.

4510471ya2@reddit
i doubt there is much left in the tank for necessary increases to performance, before it was obvious that you could use more raster performance, but now its just icing on the cake, I feel that devs will likely aim to have a reasonable minimum spec as GPU upgrades become fewer and farer between.

Invest heavily when you first build your pc so you won’t need to do major upgrades for atleast 5 years.
SaltyBigBoi@reddit
I think an upgrade every 6 or 7 years is fair
Inevitable_Heron_599@reddit
I skip like 4 or 5 generations of gpu. Mostly because I haven't played a game in 2 years and I don't really do anything on the pc but work and playing episodes of Bluey for the kids.
Salaino0606@reddit

Avedas@reddit
I did builds when I was a kid and when I was a broke student, but for my latest I just went for a prebuilt. I was already paying for a 4090 and everything else anyway, and getting the prebuilt was maybe $200 more than parts and doing it myself. I saved myself the time and hassle, and got a decent warranty as well. Totally worth it for me.
PepijnLinden@reddit
Fair enough. At least you did the calculations and decided you didn't want to put in the work to save the $200 when you're already spending big. Hope you enjoy your 4090! Thing is the size of a refrigerator, but the power is absolutely there!
Avedas@reddit
Yes my room no longer needs heat in the winter lol
Zuiiiun@reddit
Learning to build a pc is the way to go. you not only get your money's worth but also have at least some awareness of how to fix your own PC. the prebuilt ones are generally more fancy looking and been test out before being shipped to you but they charge a premium for that and sometimes the hardware in prebuilt ones is cut corners. I'm always pissed when my mates tells me its too difficult to build your own PC(yeah of course they never tried) I was like cunt if you that shit is easier than getting a licence lol
PepijnLinden@reddit
Too damn right. I definitely understand that it may look a little intimidating at first, but I managed to build one in my early teens after just watching a one hour video of someone building a PC and explaining what all the parts look like and where they're supposed to go. I really think anyone could do it if they do a little bit of research. If anything, saving hundereds of bucks should be motivation enough.
sillyyun@reddit
So far I’ve always bought a high end ish gpu and wait many years to upgrade. Went from a 650ti to 370 radeon something to a 1080. The 1080 is still going strong so I plan to wait for 5000 series. Cpus last a bit longer imo
PepijnLinden@reddit

The consumerist society would kill me for it but ill let you in on a secret
You dont need the best graphics to enjoy a game and there are many indie games that give AAA games a run for their money
Zuiiiun@reddit
I'm not sure about you all, but I usually save up money whenever it's possible and get high-end electronic hardware. I just got myself a 4090 at the beginning of this year and an iPhone 14 Pro two years ago. This stuff is expensive, but I can see that for the next 5-8 years, I will stick with what I have and use these on a daily basis. If you take good care of your electronic hardware, it usually tends to last for years(maybe replace the battery for your cellphone at some point).
RetiredBy30orDead@reddit
Even if I get a 4090 I would still be playing league, CS paradox games and the occasional indie game. I imagine I can rock a 4090 until 2045 .
