Any-Grapefruit3086@reddit
i like candy corn, to me it’s just vanilla and sugar
Jamison945@reddit
It is sickeningly sweet. Only neednto eat a couple to satisy a sugar craving
TheBimpo@reddit
It has a honey and vanilla flavor. People not liking it has turned into a meme, it’s way overblown. I love it.
CookWithHeather@reddit
Same with peeps. They’re marshmallows, which people love. Why do they think peeps are an abomination???
I don’t like candy corn, but recently discovered you can use them to make one of my favorite candy bars, butterfingers.
11twofour@reddit
Except marshmallows are worse when they're stale but peeps just get better
CookWithHeather@reddit
I <3 stale peeps.
11twofour@reddit
There are dozens of us!
treycook@reddit
The only contexts in which I enjoy marshmallows are roasted over a fire, or melted in hot cocoa. With Peeps in particular, the sugar coating makes them taste like a stale marshmallow to me for some reason. But I agree that it's become a meme.
EdgeCityRed@reddit
My husband's the same. He'll eat regular marshmallows, but Peeps or circus peanut candy just taste stale to him.
Wespiratory@reddit
Circus peanuts have a completely different texture than either regular marshmallows or Peeps. Peeps have almost the exact same consistency to me, just with granulated sugar on the surface.
botulizard@reddit
Same here. Peeps taste oversweet and stale no matter what, and if they've actually gone stale, forget it. When they dry out they get a similar texture to the marshmallows you find in cereal boxes, which to me feel like I'm eating the sound of nails on a chalkboard.
MunkiRench@reddit
They're low quality marshmallows coated in sugar. Big difference between a regular old Jet Puffed and a peep.
DefinitelyNotADeer@reddit
As a child I thought peeps were really baby chicks—I was a Jewish city kid, I didn’t know any better. I would get a pack and play with them. I was horrified the first time my brother ate one in front of me. But yeah, I think this was the start of the long route to becoming a vegetarian. Also, though, as a candy that’s prime time is the same time of year, marshmallow twists were always so much better.
paka96819@reddit
Peeps has a slight bitterness. But, they make for great s'mores.
mimikyutie6969@reddit
They have seasonal flavors too, the peppermint ones are fantastic in coffee if you’re willing to put up with a sugar high in the morning
avelineaurora@reddit
My theory is the people that hate it primarily have only had one of those cheapo brands and not the OG like Brach's. I'm a candy corn (and mallo pumpkin!) fiend in Fall. Always have a huge jar of both on the counter!
Miss me with the brown corn though, that "chocolatey" taste just doesn't mesh.
MillieBirdie@reddit
Candy corns are freaking great. And those little pumpkins.
WayGroundbreaking787@reddit
I don’t taste honey or vanilla, just artificial sweetness and food coloring.
hucareshokiesrul@reddit
I think it’s that it’s tastiness doesn’t match its ubiquity. I like it ok, but its such a candy staple, at least it used to be, that people got kinda confused as to why.
But I agree that the hate is overblown. It’s an ok old fashioned candy.
Icy-Kitchen6648@reddit
Shit
loudquietly@reddit
if you wet a super absorbent paper towel in sweet water and then dry it out and crush it up and get it a little wet again with the sugared water then dry it again firmly it definitely tastes like that i hate candy corn
Uhhh_what555476384@reddit
It's damn near pure sugar. It actually tastes kinda gross as an adult but when you're a kid it's such a giant sugar high you don't realize how bad it tastes.
TK1129@reddit
Why eat candy corn when there’s good candy like peanut butter cups out there?
Sabertooth767@reddit
It tastes like sugar, honey, and vanilla.
Part of why some people dislike it is that it's extremely sweet, and it also has a waxy texture. It's an obviously unnatural food, even by candy standards.
Head_Razzmatazz7174@reddit
I love candy corn, but cannot eat a lot because of how sweet it is. It's one of the few foods where the suggested portion size is more than what I can eat at one time.
Hot_Frosty0807@reddit
Mix it with some peanuts to cut the sweetness. It tastes like a Payday bar.
RnBvibewalker@reddit
If this isn't American advice idk what is... Yeah add some healthy stuff so you can tolerate even more of the unhealthy junk. Weird lol
Oisin_Anderson@reddit
Or, melt them, mix it with peanut butter, let it cool, and cover it with chocolate. You get crispy copycat Butterfingers.
LavaPoppyJax@reddit
Weird but intriguing. What about it would make it crispy?
Oisin_Anderson@reddit
I'm not a food scientist or anything, but the sugar in the candy corn crystallizes when melted and cooled. Mixed with peanut butter, it makes crispy peanut butter.
Hot_Frosty0807@reddit
This sounds amazing!

Head_Razzmatazz7174@reddit
That's true. I'm sitting here rn noshing down a large bag of Peanut M&Ms.
Shandlar@reddit
I'm very confused by this thread. I like candy corn because it's way less sweet than other gummy candies.
Less sweet than mike and ike. Less sweet than dots. Less sweet than gummy bears. Less sweet than twizzlers. All the other sugar based, none chocolate candy are way sweeter than candy corn.
It's the milder sweetness that makes it so good.
TubaJesus@reddit
The thing is that those candies have other flavors though, so they are lemon or orange or apple or something like that. Candy corn is just sweet without any other strong flavors and that can be a bit much for some people
CaptainPunisher@reddit
Candy corn is the Peeps of Halloween candy.
Yggdrasil-@reddit
It's cloyingly sweet. After a few pieces, my teeth start to hurt.
not_doing_that@reddit
There’s candy corn jelly beans now and I find them much more palatable texture wise
negrote1000@reddit
Candy corn doesn’t taste like corn? Disappointed.
nimaku@reddit
My husband, who loves candy corn, says the waxy texture as one of the reasons he likes it. “It’s like eating a candle!”
AlienDelarge@reddit
Does he also like Nik-L-Nips? I kinda like both for the texture too.
OodalollyOodalolly@reddit
You chew the wax of nick l nips? I thought you just drink the stuff inside
shelwood46@reddit
Oh no you chew the wax like gum until your jaw is tired. Or so I've heard.
nimaku@reddit
He says he’s never had them, but wants to try them now.

Lac is also processed to make shellac, a popular wood finish. Even though we have all sorts of different types of finishes now, shellac is still considered basically the clearest finish you can apply. It is also non-toxic once it is dried.
siguefish@reddit
Once you go lac, you don’t go back.
Sonarthebat@reddit

iceph03nix@reddit
This. It's very sweet.
We usually mix it with peanuts to give some salt and texture.
Pale-Fee-2679@reddit
I’m the one picking out the candy corn.
WayGroundbreaking787@reddit
I don’t taste honey or vanilla at all just sugar/corn syrup and food dye.
mimikyutie6969@reddit
Idk if this is anyone else’s issue with it but I can 100% taste the food coloring. I’d eat all white candy corn no problem, but the orange and yellow? Horrible flavor because of how strong the coloring is.
WayGroundbreaking787@reddit
I do too.
InSOmnlaC@reddit
It tastes like vomit.
Tactical_Wiener@reddit
The "hate" candy like that gets is mostly performative, attention seeking internet behavior. It's just a meme people have beaten to death ten times over because they have nothing else in their lives.
shelwood46@reddit
For the record, I truly do hate black jelly beans, that is genuine.
Someshortchick@reddit
Thankfully my dad loves them. Win-win.
dangerspring@reddit
Did a candy corn write this?
kitchengardengal@reddit
If you eat a peanut and a candy corn in the same bite, it tastes like a Payday bar.
Wespiratory@reddit
I’m allergic to peanuts. I wonder if I could a similar experience with cashews?
revcor@reddit
If you eat a peanut and a candy corn in the same bite, it tastes like if Jabba the Hutt had a boisterously gay cousin and you nibbled the very very tip of his tail off, with a peanut in your mouth.
roadrunner_9@reddit
I make a big batch of this every year, and it just blows people's minds!
TillPsychological351@reddit
(Moves rapidly to my pantry to see if I have any candy corn left...)
CupBeEmpty@reddit
Oh my least favorite Halloween candy and a delicious peanut to become my least favorite candy bar? Neat.
ksed_313@reddit
Thank you for this.
Wespiratory@reddit
It’s made with mostly just sugar, corn syrup, and a little honey and sometimes butter flavor. The texture is a little bit like waxy fondant.
geri73@reddit
I can only eat candy corn with salted peanuts. It tastes just like a payday.
Puzzleheaded_Bee4361@reddit
It's supposed to taste like honey, butter, and vanilla - thus the colours. I think that, in general, people either love it or hate it. I'm in the former camp.
SevenSixOne@reddit
It's kind of like honey-flavored marzipan, I guess?
It's not a great candy, especially if it's been kept in an open candy dish and gotten stale... but it's also nowhere near as bad as people act.
BrightChemistries@reddit
It’s because it refers to the things that grow on your feet from Ill-fitting shoes, not from the vegetable.
Sihaya212@reddit
Sugar. I frickin love it.
bjanas@reddit
Still better than NECCO wafers.
machagogo@reddit
Find some wax. Add a lot of sugar to it. Nothing else.
Imagine eating that...
Be suspect of anyone who actually enjoys it. They are probably from another planet.
avelineaurora@reddit
Your taste buds are broken or you've never actually tasted "nothing" but pure sugar in your life if you think candy corn has no taste but sugar and wax.
machagogo@reddit
You must be a barrel of laughs at parties.
avelineaurora@reddit
I mean, it's more like they literally have honey as a major ingredient, but sure.
machagogo@reddit
Is sarcasm so lost on you tbat you also think I believe people who like it are literal aliens?
BitterSmile2@reddit
It’s delicious. The candy pumpkins are even better. I can eat a whole bag.
CupBeEmpty@reddit
Heh I love this. As if the shape of this abominable candy makes any difference in taste
avelineaurora@reddit
It does though? The pumpkins don't taste exactly like candy corn.
CupBeEmpty@reddit
🤷♂️ all the same to me and I don’t like it so maybe I am not the best person to opine on the candy shape differences
avelineaurora@reddit
They do have the same ingredients apparently but they're in a different order, so maybe it's enough of a change in ratios to have a different taste. Or maybe I am just crazy.
CupBeEmpty@reddit
Hard to say, there is also a difference in taste when you eat a big chunk of something vs a small one.
livin4donuts@reddit
ONE candy pumpkin is good. A whole bag? Nah man, that’s entirely too much.
Kind of like how a spoonful of cookie dough is great, but eat an entire loaf or jug of it and it’s disgusting.
NickCharlesYT@reddit
I love Brach's mellowcreme pumpkins, but I absolutely cannot eat more than 2-3 at a time. It's just way too sweet.
Lugbor@reddit
I'm with you. Candy corn is great.

Good old bug liquid glaze
knightni73@reddit
Honey is also a bug liquid glaze.
CupBeEmpty@reddit
True, big vomit can taste pretty good
virtual_human@reddit
Don't forget alcohol is yeast piss. Shellac is on a lot of candies.
CupBeEmpty@reddit
Yeast piss is a pretty sought after commodity.
virtual_human@reddit
Very true.
CupBeEmpty@reddit
And wait until you find out all the little biological bits we can extract from yeast too or engineer them to make.
machagogo@reddit
I was describing what it tastes like, not listing ingredients...
radicalresting@reddit
ugh i hate candy corn. this is a great description
Illustrious_Angle952@reddit
I can’t get past the waxy texture
nauticalfiesta@reddit
its a overly sweet very in your face fake vanilla flavor. But it also has a very very grainy texture, and its the nasty gritty texture.
Chemical-Mix-6206@reddit
It tastes like a vanilla scented candle was melted & mixed with a large bag of confectioner's sugar, then cooled back into tiny wax triangles.
Even as a child I knew it was awful, and it's not like I had a sophisticated palate, especially when it came to sweets.
RiotNrrd2001@reddit
It tastes like sugar. I like candy corn, and will generally buy some when it's available. I eat the white part, then I eat the orange part, then I eat the yellow part. Each piece is a three-act adventure. That tastes like sugar.
omgcheez@reddit
It's just really waxy and sweet. It's not great, but still better than Circus peanuts at least. I still don't know who's out there buying those.
eugenesbluegenes@reddit
Honey is the main flavor. It's kind of soft, somewhat waxy texture.
I'm not sure why it gets hate, i find it delicious. Unless you buy cheap knockoff candy corn.
boop4534@reddit
I think that’s why people don’t like it. You have to get Brach’s. Every other nameless tub of it is terrible.
avelineaurora@reddit
This is it. Brach's or nothin'.
WayGroundbreaking787@reddit
I don’t taste honey in it, just sugar and food dye.
eugenesbluegenes@reddit
Then you're buying cheap knockoffs or you have a limited palate. I do really like honey, so maybe it's easier for me to discern that flavor.
traumatransfixes@reddit
Tastes like plastic if someone tried to grind it up and make it candy. With a hint of fake corn flavor. The consistency and taste remind me of plastic. Both my kids love it, tho. Idk why
Cosmic-Ape-808@reddit
Tastes ungodly sweet with waxy texture. The only thing that would make this more vile is if it tasted like black licorice
Ansio-79@reddit
It's good for a few of them. Then it's too much. It's an overpowering sugar flavor.
kennend3@reddit
I'm actually Canadian but lived in the US and wondered the same thing. I mentioned this one halloween and so some coworkers brought some in.
It is basically sugar + wax and a hint of flavouring combined with food colouring.
The "hate" is probably two parts:
- sometimes popular things become meme's ?
- It is a very "calorie intense" candy, with low-effort.
liberletric@reddit
Its like eating sugar baked in wax. It gets hate because it’s gross.
dangerspring@reddit
If you want to know how candy candy corn tastes like pour sugar on wax and take a bite.
GreatWyrm@reddit
It’s very sweet, I dont get why it gets so much hate — other than causing me seceral cavities lol
FlyByPC@reddit
It tastes like sugar, honey, and vanilla. It also seems shelf-stable for years, if not decades. What's not to like?
BusinessWarthog6@reddit
It feels kind of waxy (like a wax type finish). I think it juste taste like sugar, i’m not against it or for it. It’s one of those candies that I won’t go out of my way to eat (like M&M or sour skittles) but if theres some around I may have a few pieces
Pale-Fee-2679@reddit
Sure, but I’m totally capable of eating a box of brown sugar.
FlyByPC@reddit
I mostly don't do this because I would expect my mother to appear as a ghost and haunt me.
august401@reddit
yummyyyy
blipsman@reddit
Taste like a sweet candle
Western_Nebula9624@reddit
Candy corn tastes like you're eating wax mixed with food coloring and extra grainy sugar. It's nasty. (And I have had the "good" kind and I love honey, but I have zero clue why some people think it tastes like honey, I don't get that from it at all) Honestly, I dislike it mostly because of the texture, which is very unpleasant, but the flavor doesn't help.
One_Bicycle_1776@reddit
I really don’t like it. too sweet and it gets stuck in my teeth, then all the sugar starts to make my teeth hurt.
legendary_mushroom@reddit
The truck is, you gotta get candy corn in September, when it hits the shelves and it's fresh.
LordofDD93@reddit
It’s waxy, super sweet in a kind of cloying way, and has this odd texture. Personally, I’m a big fan of its particular brand of sweetness and strangeness, but I can acknowledge the odd mushiness can be offfputting.
TonguetiedBi@reddit
I don't like it almost purely for the odd texture. It is waxy but also crumbly. Gross.
flootytootybri@reddit
It’s pure sugar taste. I think people think there’s no point too eating extremely sweet wax, but I had a lot of cavities as a kid so I love it lol
Kooky_Improvement_38@reddit
It doesn’t taste like much, just sugar, and has a waxy texture. That’s why it’s nasty and it baffles me that anyone would it it on purpose
sean8877@reddit
I always liked it, didn't know there were a lot of people who hated it.
worrymon@reddit
I eat about 4 pieces every year. I like them to that extent. The sweetness quickly becomes overwhelming.
It's like eating a vanilla-scented candle.
GMPG1954@reddit
Sweet wax
livin4donuts@reddit
It tastes like an overly, sickeningly sweet vanilla candle. Not like how the candle smells, but like if you ate the candle like a block of cheddar.
Kitchen-Lie-7894@reddit
I love it. It tastes like honey and maybe a hint of vanilla. It's super sweet though.
Mogster2K@reddit
It tastes like congealed oil. It's disgusting.
Icy-Student8443@reddit
people love it or hate there no in between some people it’s sweet and yummy some people think it’s waxy i personally love candy corn that’s just me
thereslcjg2000@reddit
I just find it super bland and kind of gross. No flavor at all other than sweetness.
HighFiveKoala@reddit
Sweet with a dash of vanilla. It has a very waxy texture.
CamiJay@reddit
It’s just very waxy and sweet. It’s not bad but I only really eat it if it’s in a Halloween “trail mix” type of thing. Like add some peanuts and some M & Ms to cut down on the sweetness.
Tommy_Wisseau_burner@reddit
It tastes like sugar. They’re hated because of how generic they are. They’re never anyone’s favorite but still end up in your truck or treat bag anyways lmao
C5H2A7@reddit
It's so good. It's just SWEET. It has a slight honey/vanilla flavor and it's like chewing on wax. I absolutely love it.
WayGroundbreaking787@reddit
I don’t know where people are getting honey/vanilla, I only taste straight up sugar/corn syrup.
C5H2A7@reddit
It's just what it tastes like to me 😩 idk! Only the real original candy corn though, cheaper versions are plain sugar.
dew2459@reddit
Brachs has honey in it. Deep down in in the ingredient list, but enough to give it a bit more flavor than just waxy sugar.
MacaroonSad8860@reddit
It tastes like horror.
brian11e3@reddit
It tastes like waxy corn syrup.
6894@reddit
it tastes like waxy sugar.
Western-Passage-1908@reddit
It's fondant
Consistent-Mouse-612@reddit
It tastes like sweet wax. It has very little flavor...just sweet waxiness. I personally don't like it, but I used to when I was a kid. I don't give people crap for liking it though. After all, I like circus peanuts, which I think are basically the same thing, just with air incorporated into them.
Lupiefighter@reddit
This is definitely something that is a texture issue over a flavor one for most of us. The sweet honey, vanilla flavor is mixed with a waxy texture from the use of gelatin, sesame seed oil and confectioners glaze used to make the product.
I have had candy corn that was made fresh and it is a completely different experience in texture than the store bought version that people are familiar with. It has a softer melt in your mouth type texture when fresh, but most store brands lose that texture by the time they hit the shelves (in my experience).
WayGroundbreaking787@reddit
I can’t taste honey or vanilla at all, just sugar/corn syrup and food dye. That’s my issue.
eLizabbetty@reddit
Candy Corn had real honey in it, itz gotten gross now that it's 99% high fructose corn syrup.
knickerdick@reddit
i like candy corn
freedraw@reddit
Imagine eating candle wax mixed with high fructose corn syrup.
Bluemonogi@reddit
It doesn’t actually taste bad. It is just a basic sugar taste.
Not my favorite candy but it isn’t revolting.

StatePsychological60@reddit
It tastes like disappointment.
hjmcgrath@reddit
Tastes great which encourages eating a bunch, but makes me feel nauseous after just eating a few. I'm guessing it's just too sweet.
Lord_Voltan@reddit
Where are you from OP? I could send some to you to try but depending on the country it may be a banned import lol.

I agree that it tastes like sugar, honey, and vanilla. I love it. I wouldn't eat it every day, but a handful every fall? Yep.

Ghitit@reddit
Nobody I know hates candy corn.
It may not be anyon's favorite, but it's always gone from the bowl pretty quickly. It's so eays to grab a small handful and nibble them up.
They're delicious. Intensly sweet, high fructose corn syrup is like that. I don't know how t odescribe the flavor beyond that. My daughter found some chocolate flavored ones this past halloween. YUM!
PineappleSlices@reddit
Always worth bringing up Lewis Black on candy corn.
ida_klein@reddit
It tastes like sweet wax to me lol. So gross.
TillPsychological351@reddit
What joyless scold could possibly dislike candy corn? To me, it's the taste of Halloweens of yore.
Mysteryman64@reddit
As a candy corn hater, the biggest issue is largely the texture. It's like someone made a candle out of corn syrup. There is the barest hint of honey and vanilla, I guess? Mostly it just tastes overpoweringly sweet with an unpleasant aftertaste all with the texture of bad quality wax.
ViewtifulGene@reddit
Taste and texture of wax.
rolyfuckingdiscopoly@reddit
Sugary wax. It’s fine but it’s nondescript. You know how a peanut butter cup or a jolly rancher has personality? Candy corn is just sweet.
ermghoti@reddit
Tastes like plastic sugar, but they get so much hate because people forget circus peanuts and Necco wafers exist.
Vachic09@reddit
Brach's- Sugar, vanilla, and a touch of honey
Most brands- Sugar flavored wax
Some people don't like it because they have just eaten terrible brands. Some people don't like it because it's very sweet.
stiletto929@reddit
Candy corn is OK. It’s not great, but it’s not terrible. But peeps are an abomination, and black licorice/jelly beans are straight up inedible.
Judgy-Introvert@reddit
It tastes like waxy sugar. I can’t stand the texture.
gavinjobtitle@reddit
A big thing is that it was an ok candy that became a tradition so they could make it cheaper and cheaper and people would still buy it. It’s a candy that was basically honey and wax, which is alread pretty meh, but became corn syrup and more and more wax, so it’s just real bad
C5H2A7@reddit
There is no actual wax.
Catahooo@reddit
Fake butter flavour and sugar, with an element of beeswax. It's disgusting.
C5H2A7@reddit

Royal icing.
HoyAIAG@reddit

GuitarEvening8674@reddit
It tastes terrible. It tastes like a chewy lump of sugar with too much vanilla (or something else) added. And if it isn't fresh it gets even worse and starts to get hard.
CommitteeofMountains@reddit
One big factor is that it goes stale basically instantly but is a format people tend to leave open in bowls.
Any_Flamingo8978@reddit
I’ve always found it too over the top sweet. I think also since it doesn’t have a particular stand out flavor, paired with its grainy texture, I was just never drawn to it. Do maybe a combo of those things.
When I think about it, it’s probably no more sweet than a chunk of caramel or any other candy. So perhaps it’s its lack of a defined flavor and its texture.
allbsallthetime@reddit
Delicious

They changed the recipe at some point. I have no proof of this, but I'll die on that hill. I used to love candy corn as a kid, but now they're just squishy sugar.
Odd-Help-4293@reddit

catslady123@reddit
My Indian coworkers asked me to bring them candy corn last year so they could try it for the first time. They were so excited…. Never seen someone go from excitement to disappointment so fast.
SirTheRealist@reddit
It tastes like waxy/chewy sugar. It’s just a boring candy that shouldn’t even exist lol
virtual_human@reddit
It taste like candy corn. Like lots of things we eat it has artificial flavors that, at best, only slightly resemble natural flavors.
Kingsolomanhere@reddit
It's a combination of earwax and sugar, only deranged people and some children like it
DoubleBreastedBerb@reddit
Satan, a full diaper left in the parking under hot sun, and a dollar store candle met in a college bar dumpster and had a mutated grit baby.

It's a candy from the late 19th century that has stuck around out of some sort of misguided appeal to tradition.

Caramel. It tastes like caramel.

It tastes like diluted sugar, which is basically what it is, and it has a medium-soft slightly gritty texture. That's why it's relatively disliked.
sabotabo@reddit
i don't even remember what it tastes like. i just remember the first time i had one, i gagged and decided never to try one again.
