Why are Greeks in USA so pro Trump ?

I haven't seen a single Greek-American who is not a Trump supporter and a republican in general.
xoxowony@reddit
Most Balkan people in the USA are very pro-Trump
bayern_16@reddit
I'm a dual US German citizen in the US. I live in a suburban area with a very high Balkan population. Schools, gym stores etc. my wife is Serbian and all the Balkan people I know love Trump. Also, Indian/pakistanis, middle Eastern , Koreans etc. every immigrant house on my block had a Trump sign. This was the same in 2016.
abcdefabcdef999@reddit
Immigrants from these parts are usually conservative and also like tough on immigration policies because they have the delusion that they’re „the good ones“. Source: immigrant from the region.
bayern_16@reddit
Is it that or is it because they realize how expensive and time consuming the process is. I never thought of it that way
abcdefabcdef999@reddit
Listen, I love my home region but we’re not really open minded are educated in many cases(in terms of philosophy and liberation terms). We’ve only known monarchies and authocrats for the most part in our culture and othering is a national past time for us. We manage to find differences and division in the slightest things - we’re professionals when it comes to hating other people settling near us.
bayern_16@reddit
Are you Serbian?
abcdefabcdef999@reddit
Bosnian which the majority of my friends being fellow Bosnians, Serbs and Croats. It makes for interesting conversations.
bayern_16@reddit
I work with quite a few Bosnians and they are really cool. I've never really discussed the whole Trump thing, but I assume they are conservative. We have so many Polish people here there are probably 50 plus schools for the kids and they tend to also lean right in US politics
abcdefabcdef999@reddit
Yeah I wouldn’t be shocked if they were. It can be quite enjoyable to spend time with us but politics is often best left out as a topic.
linguineemperor@reddit
More like most of the countries they originate from have strong borders and they understand that not having that destroys a country
abcdefabcdef999@reddit
Where the hell did you get the idea that Balkan countries have strong borders? It’s a literal sieve and main entry route for middle easterners coming to Europe 😂
Professional_Wish972@reddit
tbh it's not delusion. I can tell you as a North American Muslim it is very clear to see that Europe got mostly the "bad ones" in terms of Muslims immigrations and it's frankly given everyone a bad name.
Look at Indian/Pakistanis in USA for UK you'll see a massive difference. Same for other countries like Germany etc.
I know it sounds classist but just being realistic that historically America had a lot of immigrations from muslim countries but they were the educated class with college degrees and so on. That reflects in todays society that is mostly harmonious
Meanwhile in Europe the immigration was mostly labor class. I'm not saying all immigrants are bad but the doors were open so wide, obviously some of the worst also came in.
We want to avoid that in the US. It's not delusion. It's a complicated subject. I feel for immigrants who just want to make a great life for their family but when you get here illegally, you are taking the place of someone who worked their ass off to come through the legal means but they can't.
abcdefabcdef999@reddit
So you’re going to tell me, a European Muslim that lives in Europe for 30 years about how bad Muslims in Europe are - aight.
There are plenty of educated Middle Easterners in Europe. We have a shitton of Arabic and Iranian doctors filling high demand openings for instance. That doesn’t make a good headline.
I’m not going to make a fuss about people not going through proper channels when they’re escaping Iran or Syria.
Also yes, your statement is very classist and everyone regardless of background deserves a safe life and the ability to pursue their ambitions. I’d rather judge people individually and give chances. I pay a lot of taxes and I’m happy to help less fortunate people have a chance at their one time opportunity of life.
ColossusOfChoads@reddit
Any idea why?
bayern_16@reddit
My wife is Serbian and after Clinton bombed Serbia in the 90"s they hate the Clinton's (same reason they hate Nixon in Vietnam and Bush in Iraq). It's very expensive and difficult to come to the US legally and at least for the ones I know seeing all those people pour of the border like that was like cheating. When I got married we had to send our invitations out a year in advance so the relatives could get visas. My Bil literally became a US citizen a month an ago (he's Bosnian) and was showing me the certificate and explaining how expensive and time consuming it is to legally get his mom, daughter and brother here and how he couldn't believe that these people would come here illegally and how we let them in. Everyone at their church and their cousins voted for Trump. Old babas in wheel chairs were fighting to cast there vote. I'm also going to they are some of the hardest working and proudest Americans I know. The Romanians and Albanians I know are the same. It doesn't hurt the Trumps wife is Slovenian. Vance's wife is South Indian which must have carried some weight in that community.
Impossible_Speed_954@reddit
They wanna "stop woke propaganda" so bad they'll even vote for a rapist.
xoxowony@reddit
True. A close family of ours that lives in America says they'll vote for him even tho they have a small daughter :/
Salmacis81@reddit
If you were here you most likely would be too, once you realized how the Democrats like to split whole society up into "privileged white oppressers" and "oppressed people of color".
BriarGreen00@reddit
While Republicans are working on inclusiion And unity with all hates hrye are soitting. Jesus Christ how fakin dumb your post is
Salmacis81@reddit
You're seriously gonna post this and tell someone else they made a dumb post? Mfer you don't even make sense 🤣
sjedinjenoStanje@reddit
That's not really true. The "woke" people who do that end up being lumped together with the Dems, even though the woke were calling Biden "Genocide Joe" and Harris "Killer Kamala" and most of them either voted for Jill Stein (Russian stooge) or Trump. They're designed to undermine the Democratic Party from within.
Salmacis81@reddit
Most of the "woke" definitely did not vote for Trump lmao
sjedinjenoStanje@reddit
You're right - most did not end up voting at all, or they voted Stein or any other number of fringe lefty candidates.
ColossusOfChoads@reddit
They didn't blow the election by themselves, but they helped.
Professional_Wish972@reddit
Yes I would rather vote for Stein or Trump than someone chilling with a neocon like Dick Cheney.
captainpoopoopeepee@reddit
I've lost track of the demographics of people Trump hates.
Salmacis81@reddit
When has he ever said he "hated" any demographic? You're just making shit up.
ColossusOfChoads@reddit
I think he hates everyone who isn't him and his immediate family. Even that's debatable.
BriarGreen00@reddit
Russian lmao?
kruska345@reddit
Has Kamala mentioned racial opression or anything in this contest at least once during her campaign?
Salmacis81@reddit
Probably not since she knows she needs a sizeable portion of the white vote to win, but she certainly allies herself with the race-hustlers.
Anyway Harris wouldn't even have been the nominee if not for Biden picking her based on her race/gender rather than qualifications or popularity. She tried running in 2020 and support for her was so abysmal that she was one of the first candidates to drop out. Afterward she got picked as VP only because Biden was pressured by the leftists to limit his options only to black woman candidates. Then she didn't even have to face a primary this year because Biden dropped out so late ensuring that she would go unchallenged as the nominee, and look what happened haha...not only did she lose every battleground state but she lost the popular vote, Democrats had not lost the popular vote in 20 years lmfao
BuonTabib@reddit
This isnt true
Bosnians and Albanians are probably very pro-Democrat
Fragrant-Loan-1580@reddit
Nearly every Albanian I know voted for Trump.
biglbiglbigl@reddit
wasnt there an albanian guy running for senator in the republican party?
Fragrant-Loan-1580@reddit
Marko Kepi, he ran for state senator which is below senator. To give some perspective, NY has 63 state senators and the entire US has just under 2,000 state senators. I believe the higher the states population, the more state senators there are.
On the other hand there are a total of 100 senators for all 50 states with each state having two, regardless of population.
ColossusOfChoads@reddit
That, and a state senator has no power outside of his state.
As for a Senator Senator, each of the 50 states gets 2, so there can never be more than 100. When it comes to elected politicians, only the president has more power over the entire American people than a senator.
bayern_16@reddit
I live in Chicago and I agree with this.
BuonTabib@reddit
Man, we are stupid
But well, no wonder, we do the same at home
Fragrant-Loan-1580@reddit
Yup. I guess I’m the crazy one for having higher expectations from our diasporas.
Professional_Wish972@reddit
Maybe in the 2016 election, but since many have turned around. Since trump has relaxed his muslim hate a lot of Bosnians and the likes are okay with him but that's from my limited sample as we don't discuss politics all that much
MISTER_WORLDWIDE@reddit
I’ve seen a lot of pro-Trump support on facebook from Bosnians in America.
B50O4@reddit
People still use Facebook?
MISTER_WORLDWIDE@reddit
Yes, it’s still very active and the most active with 3 billion monthly users.
bayern_16@reddit
I'm in the US. My BIL is Bosnian and became a US citizen a month ago. It was very time consuming and expensive. It will be just as difficult to legally bring his mom, daughter her. We were waiting watching how many people illegally crossed the border and he told me he would vote for Trump and he did. Native Americans and almost ever demographic did. Trump did lose in my state, but it wasn't because of the immigrant vote.
Rough_Transition1424@reddit
Eh I would argue that my family is pro Trump
Ambitious-Impress549@reddit
We Albanians really don’t care as long as we enjoy bipartisan support
BuonTabib@reddit
I wouldn't argue that the support is really that bipartisan though
Richard Grenell doesn't seem pro-Kosova to me
Ambitious-Impress549@reddit
Well he hasn’t been chosen by Trump yet no? Also the CIA Director and secretary of state are pretty pro Albanian and pro Kosovo so I guess that’s a plus
cappuccinobiscotti@reddit
Not necessarily true. I know many Albanians here in NYC and most are pro-Trump.
Analbanian@reddit
Not in my experience. The overwhelming majority of my relatives and friends in the US actively support Trump.
cbk1992@reddit
I wish that were true, Marko Kepi got a lot of Albanian and Greek support for example. This guy is a big Trump guy.
Ok-Amount6679@reddit
Turks def aren’t pro trump in the US. They are pro trump in mainland Turkey though.
xoxowony@reddit
Turkey isn't a Balkan country
princeintheangel@reddit
We ARE the Balkans it’s a Turkish word lmao
xoxowony@reddit
"Turkish word" yet it was named after a Bulgarian mountain. Keep living in your delusional bubble, that's the only thing they teach y'all in school
princeintheangel@reddit
Bal Kan directly translates to Honey Blood. If it’s named after mountain in Bulgaria, it’s probably after the Turkish went in there.
Also, not a fckin Bulgarian trying to have a superiority complex LMAO
Non-Professional22@reddit
No that's false ethimoly Blood and Honey, its from بالقان, cognte with balık, and probably refers to swamps or else...
princeintheangel@reddit
Balik? As in fish? Huh I never knew that - was it Arabic or Persian you referenced?
DoNotMakeEmpty@reddit
Balkan does not have any Arabic or Persian origin. Nişanyan says it is from Middle Turkic "balkan" meaning "high mountain", which in turn may have come from Middle Turkic "balkı-" meaning "to shine". Balık and balçık were originally synonyms both coming from "bal-" meaning "to stick", but I have not been able to find connection between balkı- and bal-.
jamvsjelly23@reddit
The word was borrowed from Turkic (or possibly Persian) and applied to the mountains. It doesn’t take much effort to look things up.
Puzzled-Ad-1318@reddit
Because Islamist Harris was supporting bathroom cleaners 🇹🇷who committed genocide and ethnic cleansing of Greek people.
Paradoxius@reddit
As a Greek American, it's frankly because many Greek Americans strive for nothing more than to own a big house (or two, or three) and a pleasure boat and to be able to look down on people whose families came to this country more recently than theirs. I suppose it's the product of the first one or two generations of their families in this country starting small businesses or getting good high-paying jobs in the states, making money, assimilating into the dominant culture of the US, and raising them to believe they're more deserving than people who have less.
Aggravating-Car-1897@reddit
Most of us eastern euros are right wing because we know the dangers of communism
BriarGreen00@reddit
Most of Eastern Euros are right wing because they are uneducated and easy go manipulate. That is how their dictators are keeping them poor and staying in power for 20 plus tears khmmm khmm Milo and Vucic….
Aggravating-Car-1897@reddit
That’s just not true the majority of people I know from the balkans are educated more so even than America. That is called corruption not a lack of education.
BriarGreen00@reddit
Corruption goes hand in hand with a lack of education.
Aggravating-Car-1897@reddit
There isn’t a lack of education in the Balkans have you been? Also how many millions of successful people never went to college? If anything I trust people who never went to school because they weren’t indoctrinated with the leftist bullshit taught in American schools.
BriarGreen00@reddit
You are so fakin brainwashed that is cringy.
Aggravating-Car-1897@reddit
Ako ti kažeš 😅
hunichii@reddit
Aggravating-Car-1897@reddit
I said most not all. If we’re talking American politics the New Democratic Party is very similar to communism/socialism ideology.
hunichii@reddit
Absolutely not.
Aggravating-Car-1897@reddit
You must not live in America
Axil_GR@reddit
Diaspora tends to be way more conservative than the Greeks back in the homeland.
throwaway082122@reddit
Greeks in Greece are still pretty socially conservative by North American standards. Everyone in Greece is just economically far left and believes in a very big welfare state/social system. You don’t see every coffee shop in Greece flying a LGBT flag for example. Very common to see here in North America, especially in Canada and blue states.
Axil_GR@reddit
The only socially conservative people are really just old people. If you still visit Greece you will notice that people here are trying to move on from most things that would be considered conservative, in contrast to Greeks abroad want to preserve the culture and traditions.
Fit_Instruction3646@reddit
Not surprising, honestly. Trump embodies traditional masculine values while the dems embody progressive feminine values. Balkaners being more machoistic and generally conservative are just deaf for the democratic talking points.
BriarGreen00@reddit
What gave yiu hing if masculine values? His fat ass and whale stomack or his gay orange makup on his face?
ColossusOfChoads@reddit
It's that weird way he stands so that he won't shit himself in public.
BriarGreen00@reddit
Dude is wearing diapers and for lunatics he represent traditional masculinity lmao
Sanguine_Caesar@reddit
It's the same bullshit as alpha and beta males: astrology for insecure men who are too cowardly to insult someone without couching it in esoteric nonsense.
I miss the days when people would just call someone they don't like a pussy instead of feeling the need to hide behind "masculine vs feminine values" because they're too much of a coward to just say what they mean.
Fit_Instruction3646@reddit
All of them, yes.

I know Armenians aren’t’ Balkans but there’s a pretty large Armenian-American community here in Los Angeles (some approximate a million). They are one of the most avid Trump supporters I’ve come across in a pretty Democrat/blue city like Los Angeles. If I were to guess I’d say 70% are Trump supporters. Just in my neighborhood I’ve seen Armenians with Trump flags on their cars and houses. I even see them wearing those stupid red hats too.
sergy777@reddit
Why so many Armenians are pro-Trump?
throwaway082122@reddit
Likely because Trump is perceived as being pro-Judeo-Christian and Armenians have historically been prosecuted for their religion.
ColossusOfChoads@reddit
I grew up not far from where they're concentrated. Biden recognizing the Armenian Genocide was a huge deal. They had been pushing for that for decades and decades, but no president wanted to piss Turkey off over it. Biden just went and did it.
I've been away from home for a while, and that's the reason why I'm a tiny bit surprised.
Kejo2023@reddit
They're not pro-Trump per se since he himself has a good work relationship with Erdoğan. It's his administration that is anti-Turkish to its core and enjoys Greek voters support in the US.
throwaway082122@reddit
Dude, no Greek in North America votes for their own domestic government, thinking about their relation with Turkey. We don’t think about Turkey at all to be quite honest since y’all on the other side of the planet.
BriarGreen00@reddit
He himself doesn’t even know what your country is. He thought that Orban is president of Turkey
ColossusOfChoads@reddit

Relative_Session_658@reddit
I have relatives in the US and most of them are pro Trump . From what they tell me, they value traditional values, like family and religion and I guess that’s the main reason.
throwaway082122@reddit
This is the case with most immigrants. It’s usually only those of Northern/Western European descent that end up being liberal.
Socially, as a Greek I feel my family has more in common with regards to family values with my first/second generation Indian-Canadian friends and then I do with my x generation Canadian friends.
ColossusOfChoads@reddit
Trump would wipe his own ass with one of his Trump-branded bibles if he thought it would benefit him. As for family values, he's not far behind Berlusconi, although he plucks that string more skillfully than old Silvio ever did.
Born and raised in the USA, and I was an evangelical fundie for several years. And yet I fail to understand.
stos313@reddit
None of which Trump embodies but τέλος παντο
Niocs@reddit
but of course kamala did
stos313@reddit
How many baby daddies does she have? Trumps got what 4 kids with three wives or something? Not to mention raw fogging a porn star while his wife is pregnant with one of them then paying her hush money. Family man!!
Niocs@reddit
good point, but still that's not what he stands for and what his policies are
stos313@reddit
He stands for himself and nothing else. Were you not paying attention from 16-20?!
Azulan5@reddit
Look at his family lol his grandkids his children like they are awesome and respect him as the leader of their family
glasswindbreaker@reddit
He fought his family over trust funds (not money he himself earned) over medical care for his disabled nephew and said it would be better if the child "just died". Read Mary Trump's book that family runs on cruelty and fear not respect.
Azulan5@reddit
I know them personally this is not true lol
glasswindbreaker@reddit
😂 yeah I'm going to take an actual family members word over yours, it's notable that no one in the family challenged her retelling or was able to say she defamed Donald in court because Mary told the truth in her book.
Azulan5@reddit
You aren’t even American so your opinion doesn’t even matter besides you are Greek so that’s another negative point in your part of judging people lol, look at your countries politics it is a mess it has been a mess for a long time
glasswindbreaker@reddit
I have dual citizenship and homes in the US and Greece, and your countries politics are pretty fucked too. It's really the wealthy vs the working class everywhere and Trump certainly doesn't have anything but his own interests in mind.
Round_Parking601@reddit
Most of the working class voted for Trump too
glasswindbreaker@reddit
I didn't say Americans were smart
Round_Parking601@reddit
Democrats also used this rhetoric, didn't work out the best
glasswindbreaker@reddit
That doesn't make any sense. In any case what we need in the US is ranked choice voting and money out of politics, so 3rd parties can be viable. People like you seem to think this is about "teams" and really it's about our current lack of viable options as the current system stands.
Round_Parking601@reddit
Its not about teams, it's about ideologies and worldviews.
glasswindbreaker@reddit
That's what polarizing leaders want you to believe, they leverage that kind of thing to keep people divided. Ultimately most of humanity just wants to live and raise families in safety and relative comfort, with the ability to make their own choices about their lifestyles and freedom to pursue what makes them happy.
Round_Parking601@reddit
I agree, but I have fundamental things I disagree on with progressives. My outlook on life doesn't align with their views either. So it ultimately comes down to what who believes in.
glasswindbreaker@reddit
Not really, we can all coexist. Authoritarians and extremists are the only ones who don't consider that possible.
Azulan5@reddit
Cool lol
stos313@reddit
Wow you know his kids and grandkids?
Azulan5@reddit
Yes I know them
stos313@reddit
Good for you. So you know that they respect and look up to their father? I’m surprised because he talks slewing with some and how stupid other are.
Round_Parking601@reddit
It's not just about what he himself is, but what the opposite side stands for is clearly non-traditional progressive values, so either vote for the guy whose supporters are mostly traditional Americans, or vote / abstain and get progressive anti-traditional party/president.
Affectionate-Arm-405@reddit
The right always represents a strong base of family first beliefs, little change (that happens slowly) and more conservative style of governing. I'm not saying it is right or wrong but that's how the ride is viewed across the world not just the usa. I'm not even saying that Trump represents that.

throwaway082122@reddit
Disagree. My parents are both Greek immigrants however I was born in Canada, but I have a lot of friends who are from Greece as newcomers. They’re pretty economically left but very socially right. I’ve not met a single social liberal who immigrated from the Balkans or eastern Europe to Canada. One of my good friends here is an immigrant from Poland and he is gay, and even he is more right wing than most here.
ridesharegai@reddit
Greece was so much better back then tbh
AlegusChopChop@reddit
True. Greece back then had growth rates equivalent to that of the Asian Tigers. Today it's a country full of yuppies who think destroying universities will bring about a socialist utopia. I won't even talk about the death of entrepreneurship
tonygoesrogue@reddit
Universities not having basic equipment and infrastructure is a much bigger problem than graffiti. I agree it looks bad, but having studied in one, my biggest concern was the lack of teaching staff, massively under-equipped labs, outdated classrooms, etc. You can't blame the few campus leftists when the Electrical Engineering department doesn't have a fucking electric motor that students can work on. Graffiti and posters are used as smoke and mirrors to hide the massive underfunding and abandonment of the public universities by the government
It still shocks me that conservatives and neoliberals are ok with shitty education, as long as it looks shiny from the outside
AlegusChopChop@reddit
I didn't say they are the sole reason...
I am not a conservative or a neolib...
Don't be disingenuous, you know very well that these leftist gangs started acting up at a time where Greece did have the things you mentioned. Also, leftist parties that governed Greece never did anything to solve the issues (because they don't care, they are just excuses for their parasitic behavior)
Thefirstredditor12@reddit
There have been 2 political parties in Greece that rules Pasok and ND with a small break in 2015-2019 with Syriza.
Both Pasok and ND indebted the country, never really bothered to make policies with the future of the country in mind, and made sure to make money for themselves and enable corruption.
All this good old people back when ''greece'' had growth prospects made sure to steal money, put it in their pockets and make the country bankrupt, and their debts payed by the new generation.
So no Greece's problem is not leftist gangs.
AlegusChopChop@reddit
You are absolutely right
It is part of the problem, not the only one. I have probably said that about a hundred times already
Thefirstredditor12@reddit
there is no important systemic problem that is caused by leftist gangs.
Decay on education is because of lack of funding and lack of real planning, along with decades of bankrupting the country.
I mean not sure what you mean by leftist gang and what systemic problems they cause.
To put it bluntly if those ''gangs'' dissapeared, greek Universtiy would still have facility problems(not sure the english word),would still be understaffed etc...
Not to mention any problems such ''gangs'' and also similar right wing gangs cause, could be fixed by good central policy.
Political parties in Universities is not simply just a left gang problem.
Progressferatu@reddit
for us non-Balkaners, please DO talk about it.
what is happening?
puzzledpanther@reddit
Imagine having such a banquet or reasons of why Greece is fucked up, not to mention a liberal-conservative government for the last 5 years... and you think the main reason is wanabe socialists writing graffiti on walls.
AlegusChopChop@reddit
Sure, they are not the only reason. But part of it for sure.
Lvl100Centrist@reddit
Yes, but only because they dumped the cost on the future generations.

Im greek-american and all the greeks I know were punished by Trump. That is to say we are blue state high CoL types which got our taxes raised by lowering the cap on the mortgage deduction.
Greek-Americans arent Trump supporters. They're just like any Americans. Those who are conservative/lower income/lower education are, but many Greeks are educated blue city types at least from my experience.
Dukakis ran as a democrat for these reasons. Greeks in government are mostly democrats too.
I cant find newer data but here's a list of greeks in the federal government. Only 2 are GOP:
https://americanhellenic.org/greek-americans-elected-officials/
and politicians that are pro-Greece are majority dems too.
srberikanac@reddit
I think which party politicians choose to join is not necessarily a good indicator of which party people support. Greeks, just like Serbians, live predominantly in blue states, where if you want a realistic chance of being elected, you have to be in the Democratic Party.
-BarrenWuffett@reddit
Who would you rather vote for? For the political party that is generally popular amongst self hating white people and that wants to import millions of third worlders in order to replace the current population or the political party that promises to stop this madness?
ColossusOfChoads@reddit
Hey man, we're just as American as any redneck in a cowboy hat.
sta6gwraia@reddit
All Americans were pro Trump as it proved.
we-have-to-go@reddit
Rounding numbers but of all eligible voters 40%ish didn’t vote, 30% Trump, 29ish Harris.
So less than 1/3 is pro Trump. The biggest group is the apathetic
sta6gwraia@reddit
Was it a close call then?
ColossusOfChoads@reddit
Closer than it looks at first blush. A lot of the swing states were really tight.
With that said, it was a lot less close than I was expecting. I thought that shit was going to drag out for weeks, with riots in the streets and armies of lawyers trying to fuck everything up. I didn't think he would win so fast and cleanly.
we-have-to-go@reddit
I wouldn’t call it a close election nor would I call it a blow out. I definitely wouldn’t call it a mandate like I’m sure the Republicans will insist it is.
BriarGreen00@reddit
He won less then one percent vote in total. So that is i guess All Americans
cosmicdicer@reddit
Can you translate this into a cohesive sentence? What you mean he got 1% vote in total, you got my attention
BriarGreen00@reddit
He got 76 million votes. Or 50 perxent She got 74 million or 48 percent. It’s called math.
Coherent enough for your brain?
cosmicdicer@reddit
Not my fault you were not cohesive. You should have written he won with % margin of victory. And it was 1.8% wiseass, still got it wrong
jelypo@reddit
Took me a minute to understand what you meant
AdHominemMeansULost@reddit
Why wouldn’t they be? They know how shit other countries are. Most immigrants voted for Trump with black women being the exception I think.
ColossusOfChoads@reddit
Black Americans have never been counted as immigrants. (If we're not considering people who immigrated from Africa or the Caribbean in recent history.) Also, while a lot more black men voted for him than expected, it was still a minority of black men.
He also had a bit less than half of Latino voters, and there was a gender divide with that, too.
Ok-Amount6679@reddit
It kind of depends on the type of immigrant that went there. For example in Europe most Turks that went on to work in places like Germany were uneducated low skill workers and they tend to vote for erdogan. Turks in places like Arabian peninsula or NA are usually engineers, professors, doctors etc and Erdogan has very low voting potential in these places.
So if the Greeks that went to US back in the day were also people who just left because they couldn’t find jobs in the mainland that kinda explains it. That’s just my observation though I’d be really interested if anyone has an article related to this kind of behavior.
ColossusOfChoads@reddit
Every Turkish immigrant I ever knew back in the USA either had a doctorate or was about to get one.
ColossusOfChoads@reddit
I have a Greek-American friend. She's left wing, but she's more sanguine about Trump winning than I thought she would be. I should note that her parents were middle class from Athens, so that might make her atypical.
AnjavChilahim@reddit
Because immigrants hate other immigrants.
NoItem5389@reddit
As a Greek-American I think I can answer this. Most of the conservative values of the Republican Party align up very well with the Greek community in America. Most of us are more religious and more conservative than those that live in Greece. We also typically have very strict views on illegal immigration, abortion, the economy, etc among other things. I understand that Greece is becoming more secular/atheist but the Greek American community is the opposite. In America, your cultural identity is maintained through the Greek Orthodox Church where the church not only teaches religions, but also serves as a cultural center for Hellenic dance and Greek language (though the language part could be improved). Thus, in America, to be Greek is to be Orthodox (at least in identity). Due to this, most Greek-Americans are pretty conservative/traditional and thus vote accordingly.
Normal_Ad2456@reddit
I would expect that as the next generations become more Americanized they would abandon the Orthodox Church etc. Like, most second generation Greeks I know (including my sister’s daughter) only speak broken Greek and most third generation Greeks don’t even speak the language.
NoItem5389@reddit
Also something of note is that diaspora kids (especially in America) are EXTREMELY proud of being Greek. I think it’s different in Greece because when everyone’s Greek you might not feel as special but in America when there are like 1083729480 different ethnic groups, Greeks love to stick out and let everyone know they are Greek!
NoItem5389@reddit
Disagree. Will I agree the language will be lost, the religion is going strong. We have more membership than ever. My church has over 1200 families and still growing.
Sanguine_Caesar@reddit
It's the same with most Croats and the Catholic church here in Canada. Afaik the diaspora vote is almost guaranteed to go HDZ every time in Croatian elections, and many here support conservatives for the same reasons as those you gave. My family seems to be the exception in that we are mostly quite liberal or even left-wing (not so much with my extended family that live here though).
NoItem5389@reddit
Very interesting. My family is the opposite, a lot of my immediate family is conservative but my extended family is quite liberal. Always makes the family holidays exciting
NoItem5389@reddit
I also think that if you live outside of America, you don’t see the craziness that is happening. There are biological men competing in women’s sports (totally unfair), you can get suspended if you call someone the wrong pronouns at university, and they want to legalize sex change surgeries for minors. Among smaller things they put tampon dispensaries in the men’s bathroom.
Pushkinsalive@reddit
Oh yikes so you’re a Trump supporter yourself, this escalated quickly.
NoItem5389@reddit
Lmao well to be fair I am a Greek-American lol. My reply was genuinely made in good faith
BriarGreen00@reddit
All of that is taken out of proportion. There is literally less then 5 transpeople in woman sport, there is one story of tampoons from unimportant person, novody got suspended for wrong pronouns… You know what is not taken out of proportion? That Trump himself has rape accusations. That this some new minister of defense from Fox paid to shot down rape accusations. That Mat Gaets fucked a child. Too much for family values lmao
Normal_Ad2456@reddit
We all see the world news man, there is something called the Internet. But a few trans women competing in female sports really isn’t a big problem for society overall and does not affect most people anyway.
And no one wants to legalize sex confirmation surgery for minors, that’s just conservative propaganda. Puberty blockers, which are already legalized in some states, have been used on minors or even testosterone/estrogen in some cases, but no one said anything about surgery.
playing_the_angel@reddit
This sounds like the most plausible answer and makes a lot of sense.
Negative-Decision-76@reddit
That's just what you have seen which isn't the best representation of Greek Americans as a whole.
However, it may be because Greece is a fairly conservative and religious country. Republicans are conservative and often times religious. Kamala said "You are at the wrong rally" to some Christians who said something along the lines of "Jesus is king" or some shit like that. You often don't feel like siding with the people who insult you or don't support you.
Normal_Ad2456@reddit
Greece is fairly conservative, but still the most Conservative Party that ever became government is liberal, which is the “left” party in America. Our second and third parties right now advocate for social democracy and we have had a socialist Democratic Party as a government for many years.
Negative-Decision-76@reddit
Less to do with political parties, more to do with mindsets. While the people that i know in Greece are quite progressive, from my expeexperience Greek diaspora isn't always like that and tend to have a very "old fashioned" mindset.
Hiyahue@reddit
Lower taxes, like 70% of Greek people have restaurants, republicans always pass or remove laws that help restaurants. If you work 70 hours a week in a restaurant you to would be much more of a penny pincher

nasosroukounas@reddit
an old American joke: "Two Greeks meet in New York and what do they do? They open a dinner" Greeks generally prefer to be self employed than being salary men,so my guess is that Greek Americans prefer Trump because he is pro business
IHateRedditMAGA@reddit
Mainly because a lot of them (at least a majority of older Greek families in my community) escaped Communism/the Junta after WW2 and into the 70s/80s. They don't like big government being involved in their lives, hold strict family values, and enjoy their freedom to hold an opinion (Greeks love holding strong dare I say controversial opinions).
Among other reasons, many are also small business owners - Republicans and other Conservative parties have been more lenient when it comes to invasive laws like minimum wage and tax increases, just to name a few.

Trump has many sides that appeals to different people, depending on which filter you wish to apply on him.
Rich people like him because he promises lower taxes.
Poor people like him because he promises more jobs and bringing back manufacturing from China.
Big companies like him because he promises tariffs on foreign competitors.
Jews like him because he is seen as being pro Israel and was willing to make controversial moves like the embassy in Jerusalem.
Arabs and Muslims like him because he promises to end the Gaza war quickly and is not believed to be valses around so easily by Netanyahu.
Religious Christians / orthodox love him because of his views on LGBT / woke mindsets and conservative family values.
Gun owners like him for his stances on the 2nd amendment.
Border communities like him because of his stances on less immigration and deportation.
Russians love him because he is seen as a Putin supporter.
Europeans like him because he is seen as “tough” and willing to go to war to defend American interests and allies.
Many of his stances and statements contradict one another, but so long as you only focus on the sides of him you like, he can appear as a great and tough guy who once said one or two memorable things in a politically incorrect manner that stuck with you.
Competitive_Rock3038@reddit

elektronyk@reddit
Ok, then say it. I will not censor you, I will listen to what you have to say. What is wokeness?
Pmike9@reddit
Wokeness is the fake pushing of the DEI agenda, forcing people to conform to a certain opinion and begin thinking into a certain direction. Wokeness not always, but sometimes goes against logic and after all aims to discredit smart/sane people and give a (fake) sense of credibility to the mentally ill, weak, confused people. What is most evil about the woke agenda is the following: those who push it and pretend to be FOR the rights of those minorities and pretend to give them power/influence, have absolutely no good intentions. They want to divide, rule, continue selling medicine/drugs/hormones and continue funding and initiating wars to keep their power and money flow for as long as they can. After some time they change the trope again and the cycle continues. Unfortunately the propaganda works so well that even sane people begin questioning reality.
Hope that helps and hope yall wake up, cuz nothing good awaits the sleeping.
elektronyk@reddit
Interesting, but if we take this definition, then how is Trump and his administration supposedly "anti-woke"? They want people to conform to thinking by religious and conservative ideals, they pretend to be advocates for groups such as men, religious people or industrial workers, but they only use them to gain power for themselves and for their corporate overlords like Elon Musk. They also want to divide people to rule over them by making their entire campaigns orbit around culture war shit to distract people on both sides from their economical situation.
By your definition, Trump would be 10 times more "woke" than Biden or any Democrat. Or is it only woke and bad if it is done by the left and it's ok when the right does it?
BriarGreen00@reddit
This certainly wakes me up how brainwashed you are

Can’t speak for US but in the UK, most of my relatives are extremely right wing. I don’t ascribe to the following ideas, but am just commenting on what I’ve grown up around.
I think it’s a few things, most diaspora become more conservative in their new country to defend the values they grew under and see as true. It’s also trying to preserve one’s own culture, religion, and, nationalism that they grew knowing. Progressive values usually challenge and/or directly threaten these traditional conservative values. I’ve seen Cypriot Greeks here in the UK act in a far more radical manner, supporting anti-Muslim groups due to their own hatred for Turks. This is of course, still just racism and prejudice.
I feel as though a lot of Greeks also feel ownership of western democracy and values, which means they also feel greatly inclined to “defend” the conservative values.

Kamala leaned right on every issue, actively attempted to ignore midleft issues cause she leaned right on those as well. Trump declares himself a “big fan” of Turkey’s Erdogan.
“I’m a big fan of the president, to tell you that, and I know that the ceasefire, while complicated is moving forward, and moving forward at a very rapid clip,” Mr. Trump said during his joint news conference with Erdogan in the White House’s East Room.
From Trump’s own words, “Key to our security collaboration is our trade — defense and military equipment program. American Foreign Military Sales to Turkey total many billions of dollars, and Turkey supplies component parts to many American defense programs.“
ridesharegai@reddit
Well, Trump still sanctioned Erdogan in the end.
CheezDustTurdFart@reddit
This is partially true, but do recall the inefficiency and confusion:
“But just two days after Graham and Van Hollen unveiled their bill, Mnuchin was at the White House briefing room podium touting the “very significant new sanctions authorities” that Trump had granted the Treasury Department. The President had not greenlighted any actual sanctions, however, and the announcement was viewed as little more than a verbal warning. By Sunday, Trump tweeted that he was working with Graham on a sanctions plan and that Treasury would take the lead on executing it. But the following morning, Graham said on Fox News that Congress would be the one imposing those sanctions — deepening the confusion sowed by Trump’s approach to the conflict in Syria… While Mnuchin and Trump have both threatened to retaliate economically against Turkey, neither have outlined specific criteria that would trigger the response.“
CheezDustTurdFart@reddit
Here’s another from Reuters:
At the 2012 opening of Trump Towers in Istanbul, real estate mogul Donald Trump sang the praises of Tayyip Erdogan, telling a mostly Turkish audience that their leader, prime minister at the time, was “highly respected” around the world. “He’s a good man. He’s just representing you very well,” Trump said at the ceremony. Since becoming the U.S. president, Trump has openly complimented Erdogan and his combative ruling style, calling him “a friend” and “hell of a leader”.
Salmacis81@reddit
Because regardless of where you come from or whether racial politics is even a thing in your country, as soon as you move to USA you start to notice that society is built along racial lines - here you are either "white" or you are a "person of color". I'm not going to say there are not some racial separatist types on the Republican side, there definitely are. However most Republicans and their supporters would rather see a more colorblind society, where everyone can just be looked at as "people" rather than put in some box, ironically closer to what Martin Luther King Jr wanted. Its Democrats/leftists who insist on dividing up everything into "whites" or "persons of color" and claiming that we must see race everywhere and in everything, and basing important picks for positions of power on the candidate's race rather than their qualifications. Democrats are arguably better on some things such as worker's rights and environmental issues, but it's their race-hustling that causes people of European descent to flock to Republicans.
