My favorite offshore sailing competition, the Vendee Globe, has kicked off last weekend. I can't be the only dude who's watching :D
70+ days off offshore racing! I'm rooting for the Swiss. If a Frenchman (or woman) has to win, I'm rooting for Le Cam and Clarisse Cremer. If you've never heard about the race, here's a great documentary by Alex Thomson.

Well if you're interested, then through an app called Virtual Regatta Offshore, you can also participate in it virtually as I've done in the last one in 2020 and doing it in the current one too.

Doing it as well! Only 1/2 million virtual sailors on the course..

Following closely, very interesting this year as boats are close and weather patterns difficult. Now its starting to be clear who the top boats are and as a Brit myself I am hoping that Sam Goodchild can pull it off this year. But it is very early days yet. Le Cam is going well but he has boards which are not as fast as foils in rough seas.

I check the tracker every morning with my brekky! Love this race!!! Definitely have a couple of favourites — Boris and Clarisse are up there, and I interviewed Pip Hare recently which was an absolute highlight. She had some awesome sailing yarns and race insights to listen in on here:

Plus there’s a fellow Kiwi in the mix so I’m gunning for Conrad Coleman on MS Amlin too!

I am following every day for the first time. I've been watching a few YouTube channels for their daily updates, usually early evening in Europe. Vendee Globes' own channel is OK... a bit clunky presenting, but they have sailer interviews. 30 mins. Sea Wolves is my favourite, and he does good weather analysis 20 mins. Sail-World and Yachting World releases short updates throughout the day. 3 to 5 mins.
I'm hoping to see a Brit do well. I particularly like new boy Goodchilds attitude. Goodluck to all though!

And the person narrating there in Barcelona is Charlie Flesh, Fernande's captain. I've had the honor of sailing with him. Charlie even traveled and was a cook for the Schurmanm family.
His channel is homo zarpiens.
