This is the first time I've ever seen Blueberry, Blackberry, or Peach. Given the difference in packaging on Blueberry and Blackberry, I wonder if there is any regional and/or temporal distinction versus the others.
(As some others have mentioned, we did have the chocolate and vanilla pudding varieties, but I reckon those don't fall under the "Fruit Pie" banner.)
I begged my dad to buy me one of those once, and the gas station attendant said they tasted terrible. I was then told that I was going to eat the entire thing, even if it was bad.
We'd walk one mile, mostly downhill, to the 7-11. Stock up on these, slurpees or big gulps, the Little Debbie walnut brownies (precursor to the cosmic brownie). Then slowwwlllyyyy walk the mile uphill home.
Yes this was my fave. And lemon. These illicit a trauma response for me tho. The first time I was ever greedy was because of these. The adults had bought one for all the kids in the fam. I didn’t know there was limited quantity .. so I ate mine and then found another one and took it and hid and ate it. The fact. That I hid means I knew I was being greedy. But I didn’t know it was for someone. Any way they went to give it to my younger cousin and it wasn’t there of course I fessed up. I’ve always felt so bad about that lol. But we were food insecure. Like id eat just plain butter or sugar water parmasean cheese straight from the can. Mayo sandwich. So these coming into the house that day was a huuuge deal.
We used to have (what we called) the day old bread store in our neighborhood in norther michigan back in the late 80s/ early 90s. All kinds of packaged baked goods for super cheap. I definitely remember the warehouse being full of wonder bread and hostess branded baked goods. Trying some of this stuff as an adult, a lot of it has a weird chemical aftertaste 😆
I remember the bread store that my family went to when I was real little, I thought that place was the best place ever. Wonderbread, cakes, pies, all sorts of stuff. That was the only place where you'd find the hostess pies in Peach and Blackberry. My nann loved the Blackberry, I loved the peach. Meanwhile at the local gas stations you could find Cherry, Lemon, Apple, and Chocolate. Now, who here remembers the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hostess pies? with the vanilla filling?
That's what I was going to say 🙂 The chocolate one was my personal favorite as a kid. I had one about a year ago, and either they changed the recipe or my taste buds are way different, it was not anywhere near as delicious as I remembered it to be 🙁
I wanted mine to be cherry, I liked how it looked, I really wanted those cherries, but I don't actually like cherry pie and it would end up going to my sister lol

They were so good ... so basic... so apple-y and cinnamon-y ... 13 to 18 year old me.... found a large Coffee with 3 creams and 2 apple pies was a great breakfast while walking to High School!
I was a big lemon fanatic as a kid. So my first choice for the pies was lemon as well, but I also would get other things that flavor all the time like Italian Ice from the ice cream truck or always drinking lemon lime soda like Sprite. Not sure what that was but wondering how many others were like that lol
Tastykake sucks now, ever since it moved to the Navy Yard. I used to love the chocolate covered chocolate pudding pies they had around Valentine's Day. I got it one year and it was a this strip of chocolate on top instead of covering the whole crust and there was hardly any pudding. I don't even like the Tandykakes anymore
I would buy a cherry pie and a cherry coke every day on my lunch break from the grocery store that I worked. Oh to be young again with that great metabolism!
Ok I know I’m late to the party but when I was a kid, our back yard property line shared property with a hostess store. During the winter when we had a snow day, my brother and I would walk to the store with our pocket change and buy a whole bag worth of pies, cakes, and snacks.
Found out later as an adult that there were only 2 hostess stores in south Jersey and I was so sad when they went out of business. Never realized what a fortunate situation we were in.
In the 80s and early 90s, these were a delicacy for me. My mom would go to the Hostess Outlet and stock up, because they were dirt cheap, and we'd put them in our big freezer. I had one with my lunch at school every day for years. Cherry, apple, blueberry and blackberry. They were awesome.
