You'll definitely want to stay on the western side of the state. There are many surprising views that you'll see while driving around, but for the best views I think there are 3 areas: Bozeman/Gallatin Valley, Missoula/Bitterroot Valley, and Glacier National Park/Whitefish.
Glacier National Park has been a favorite for years and you should be able to get some decent views by driving through it, but your access will be limited due to when you are going (snow will keep you from getting to some areas).
Bozeman would be my #2, Missoula/Bitterroot #3.
We spent a week last year just doing Missoula and Glacier areas. Lots of driving and lots of mountains.
