Lost my career, health, and marriage when I got sick with long covid three years ago. I'm still sick. I might always be sick. Of all the crises I've had (and there have been many), this is the one I'm not sure how to find my way out of. Chronic illness took everything and prevents me from rebuilding a new version of my life and just starting over, as I've done in the past when things fell apart. I'm trying to learn to just sit with what is and breathe, but I'm not nearly zen enough to succeed at that.

I can't imagine and I send you all the best vibes + energy + healing. May the rebuild goes smoothly.

Crisis? Not really. But I ran out of fucks to give about just about anything. I have zero patience for anything pointless.

Realizing I’ll be 60 next time I can vote in a Presidential election has felt like a midlife crisis or something but I’m older than middle age 😩

51 years old here. I quit my university teaching job last year (had some money saved). My roommate and I left the US back in june to travel and get it out of our systems before we got too old... after 2 weeks, we decided to make a video game. So we are still traveling in Asia on the cheap and we are still drumming away.
I have made games before, so this is nothing new to me.. going Indie is new. sink or swim... gotta make this work...

Retired at 49, bought a mustang convertible and moved west👍

Whoa I'm totally impressed with the retirement. I'm chasing FIRE so I can retire and travel doing what I want even if it's nothing or live like a beach bum.

Currently hiking in the Mohave desert and writing a book. Acted in a short film and doing the shit I want. Cancer changed my outlook. You only have so much time to do the things you want. I’ve always lived life Yo the fullest and I’m not even close to being done👍

Early-retired at 49, sold everything, started traveling the world full time. No new wife though - she was 110% on board. Aaaand with the recent unpleasantness (no, not the Tyson fight), now pulling the trigger on the process for EU permanent residency that we had initially on a \~ 5 year from now timeline.
Peace out my dudes, I’m blowing this popsicle stand.

Mine looked like a divorce! 👏🏼
ReinventingOldDog@reddit
Yep. I'm 5 months post divorce. Crisis is putting it mildly.
leftcoast98@reddit
Lol! I mean….it wasn’t even a really FUN one? I didn’t buy a convertible or date 32 year old dudes 🤷♀️
Affectionate_Board32@reddit (OP)
Thx for the candor. Was it more like we've moved on or you had to save yourself?
Either way, if you did what's best for you then Salute. It's not like you got convertible and cheated.

If by midlife crisis you mean mental breakdown, it involved depression, anxiety, and panic attacks. Looked like I was having an awful time. I'm all good now, just picking up the broken pieces and moving on. It was worth it.
woodworkingguy1@reddit
One word... Porsche! 🤣. The older I have gotten the less I want to spend on a fancy car.

Going back to college and changing my career.

Could not afford
FenderJeep@reddit
I bought a bunch of guitars and a Jeep. Kinda still in that phase, as my user name reveals.
HolidayEggplant81@reddit
Pretty sure I'm in mine now. 🥹
MaximumJones@reddit
I think I had a mini mid life crisis at 40. But all I did was shave my head and get a couple more tattoos.
mike___mc@reddit
Mine was just an overwhelming sense of existential dread.
No affairs or stupid purchases.
Yet!
Affectionate_Board32@reddit (OP)
Literally the thing that made me say ... yeah I don't think I can afford one but maybe I had it and missed it.
And, to think I use to want a 1964 Mustang convertible. It was always my dream car. But the way pricing has went for cars ... I'll keep tinkering at my 1994 COVID and pretend.

Mine looked like this: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=U8b88US-6ts

You're perfect, yes it's true...
But without me, You're only you
ghostofstankenstien@reddit
Oh just the breakdown of my terror management theory and the increasing sense of dread at the inevitably of my death.
No big whoop
