Where would you go (from NYC area) if you had a $1,000 flight credit, 4 free hotel nights, and $600 cash?

I have a free $1,000 flight credit, roughly 3-5 nights (depending on price) in hotel rewards from work, and an additional $600 in cash back on my credit card to I’m looking to spend on a solo trip. I’m coming from the NYC area and looking to do something next summer. I know what kinds of things I’d like to do but I’d like to keep this pretty open ended sense a lot of the people here are so creative.

New Orleans….one of strangest and most singular places on the planet and it fits within your criteria….if you are less adventurous then try Charleston SC

I live in Charleston, and can say with great confidence, this is a terrible idea. I do not understand why people vacation here.

Personally I'd go with more trips rather than fancier trips. So I would take a direct flight to Greece in the next few weeks, where I've personally never been, and spend your hotel rewards nights at a cheaper place to stay for 5 nights. This will leave you with an extra $400 in flight credit, and hopefully at least half of your $600 cash back, which I would use for nice flight to an island somewhere between Miami and Puerto Rico, which should cover a few days at least of getting out of the NYC cold weather in January/February. But if you insist on summertime only, I'd aim for somewhere that you wouldn't want to go to in the winter - north, and far away, given your flight credit. I personally loved Copenhagen but for some reason I get a sense that you're looking for something more *interesting* than that - Longyearben, maybe?
Adventurous-Woozle3@reddit
You can't really go to Greece this time of year. It's closed. Everything for tourists that is. Until about April.
MayaPapayaLA@reddit
Not sure what you mean by everything for tourists is closed - the Parthenon is open, do you mean like the tourist-specific crappy overcharged restaurants? Because I personally try to skip those kinds of things anyways, so that doesn't bother me.
Adventurous-Woozle3@reddit
The Greek islands is actually what I meant. I realized I didn't specify and OP would likely go to Athens not Crete. Crete outside of Heraklion is super super closed. Locals never really lived in the places that are built up there now outside the city so there is nothing at all open in the winter.

Just went got back from Copenhagen!
I had some time between jobs and picked Chicago to Europe flight I could find and it was Copenhagen. 10/10 recommend, I loved it now during cloudy and rainy November, but I cannot imagine how the city transforms for the summer.

Im going there in july. I bet their version of dollar stores is “you dont want to know how much this is going to cost” stores
MayaPapayaLA@reddit
It's really not that bad. Plan in advance, some grocery store meals and otherwise basic food (make sure you don't make last minute "hungry" decisions) and it's perfectly fine. Speaking from personal experience.
jetski12345@reddit
hi, yeah, I was just teasing. thanks for the tips! We got breakfast included and I tend to make sandwiches on the go - I tend to not spend time eating as I want to see things and wander more than sitting down at some restaurant (but we will have to have some nice meals to try for sure!) heading to Stockholm after Copenhagen :)
Parola321@reddit
No way to survive in Copenhagen with this budget, it would only be enough for a meal
MayaPapayaLA@reddit
Assuming OPs budget can indeed cover 4-5 nights in a cheaper hotel in Copenhagen, that leaves over $100 day in transit, entrance fees and food. While it's not balling out, and will require some planning/choosing in advance, it's absolutely something that can "survive".

I like the way you think. I actually have Copenhagen among the top of my list right now. The reason I’m set on summer is because I have no more vacation time left this year, other than my holiday plans. In the spring I have a few weddings I need to travel for and the fall is when I do all my outdoors based excursions. Fishing, camping, hiking long weekends. So summer is really what I’m typically trying to find something for.

Faroes instead. Direct flights from that airport near the Tappan Zee.
Mysterious_Panorama@reddit
Sadly Atlantic Airways will not be continuing that service. I somehow doubt that OPs credits are on RC either. But a lovely thought.
Bullyoncube@reddit
Damn! Will there be any direct flights from the US?
Mysterious_Panorama@reddit
No but Icelandair has connecting service via KEF.
Mysterious_Panorama@reddit
I’m going to guess that your credits are on UA. They’re starting service to Greenland next year. That’s my pick.

I would go to Costa rica but that's me. If it were in the summer, probably somewhere in europe.
Ok-Willingness-717@reddit
With a good location like NYC you can go to Europe and the Caribbean it’s based on what you feel like doing. Are you more into tropical climates if yes then anywhere in the Caribbean will fit that bill. If you are in to historical places then Europe is the way to go.
