Note the Chainlink Fence over the windshield
HCHS67@reddit
Has this prototype been battletested against various weapon systems the Ukrainians have?
ICatchx22I@reddit
Drones are allergic to tires. Smahrt!
HCHS67@reddit
Bounceback effect.
Confident_Row1447@reddit
I thought the best defense against drones would be to keep your army within your own borders
HCHS67@reddit
Drones can also cross borders. Also don't start a war you can't end.
OneFrenchman@reddit
Steel-belted tyres are actually reasonably tough, might protect against at least some damage. More than 0.5mm steel sheets anyways.
Swimming_Stand_1675@reddit
That's at best anti shrapnel protection, not anti drone
OneFrenchman@reddit
If you're rubber and the enemy is glue, it might just work.
grizzly273@reddit
Spall liner
Kiubek-PL@reddit
Except on the outside
C00kie_Monsters@reddit
So the people outside don’t get hit by spalling when a drone gets in
Perretelover@reddit
Maybe it could be a nice heat shield for thermal recon. I can see that working a little.
Limekill@reddit
Passive IR Signature Reduction
BravestTaco@reddit
At least all the nails/screws used to install creates more potential shrapnel for the occupants.
kress404@reddit
i know that Reddit isn't the smartest but i'm saying it for the last time. this is likely meant to reduce the heat signature of the vehicle on thermals. same thing was done in Yugoslavia. still a very bad idea, especially on an unarmored vehicle.

OneFrenchman@reddit
To be fair, modern steel-belt tyres will stop some shrapnel, offer more blast protection than steel sheets, and in a pinch stop bullets that are at their range limit.
If it was me though, I'd have some drop down the side of the wheels, offer some protection against punctures.
MK0A@reddit
Why a bad idea?
kress404@reddit
huge fire hazard
MK0A@reddit
oh right lol rubber burns a lot better than metal.
kress404@reddit
yeah also hot burning plastic/rubber basically acts like napalm
MK0A@reddit
more toxic than other burning things AND hard to extinguish and super sticky? now that's a bit high risk for something that's supposed to eat munitions.
kress404@reddit
exactly lol, not the greatest material against heat charges. it WOULD work on a T-34 though as long as the rubber wasn't installed near optics (just like on the Yugo one)
R0nd1@reddit
Are you sure they're not gonna drive it off a cliff and bounce over the enemy lines?

Boeing: We won't sell you planes any more.
Ruzzia: We don't care! have Boeing at home!
The Boeing at home:
ZyronIsKindaGay@reddit
"ruzzia" lol
kress404@reddit
most of experts on reddit probably think so
Revolutionary-Wash88@reddit
Are you the expert on reddit experts?
kress404@reddit
yes, i have a lot of experience with them
fourtyonexx@reddit
Noooo its drones. Only drones. Everything dronesssss trust me brooooooo
Ultravod@reddit
TBH, you could tell me that the van in question is some art vehicle well known for driving around Brooklyn/SF/west LA and I'd believe you.
Toastburrito@reddit
Or Burning Man.
Yoshmaster@reddit
Could swear I saw it down the street the other day
kress404@reddit
lmao
Phil_Coffins_666@reddit
Notice how you posted a picture of something armored? This loaf ain't it.
kress404@reddit
pleeeaaase read my comment again lol. it's not like i didn't notice something, you didn't.
skirmishin@reddit
I feel your pain on this lol
Reddit really loves to post and upvote takes where the person clearly thought for less than 2 seconds
kress404@reddit
trueeee
Daveallen10@reddit
This. And I also heard that it used in Ukraine to provide cushion against incoming drones and stop the contact fuze from detonation on drone munitions (on paper), or a least force detonation further away from the hull. This was for the hanging rubber flaps on tanks though, I'm not sure how effective tires on a van would be.
STAXOBILLS@reddit
The only perk I can see this having is some decent insulation, which given where they are must be pretty nice, to bad it’s shit at being armor
DirectorFriendly1936@reddit
The metro Exodus van is probably better lol
NecessaryBSHappens@reddit
External spall liner?.. Alright, I guess we all can agree that it was tiresome to do
Detective_Porgie@reddit
I’m tired of stupid puns like this
Dandubyuh@reddit
Might want to tread lightly saying that around here.
6ring@reddit
Im dying to find out how theyre attached.
WestCoastWorkin_@reddit (OP)
Nail gun.
nanneryeeter@reddit
Looks like they're using those self sealing sheet metal screws.
KnifeKnut@reddit
Self sealing stem bolts
nanneryeeter@reddit
I used to work with cars. Russians are the Ferengi of the automotive world.
Aptosauras@reddit
That's going to burn nicely when a drone hits it.
IShouldbeNoirPI@reddit
And gives smoke screen for anyone who survives to escape!
CobaltCats@reddit
If anyone survives and doesn't die from inhaling toxic smoke
Aptosauras@reddit
An optimist I see. I like the cut of your jib!
Substantial-Tone-576@reddit
After seeing the ru soldier get droned into a burning tire which burned him alive will always be in my head.
zeocrash@reddit
The bukhankas are lit.
Chocolate-snake@reddit
you think they’d put more around the windows considering that’s the weakest areas
Hermit_Bottle@reddit
Poor man's reactive armor.
Pueblotoaqaba@reddit
I believe that’s a sponge soaked in gasoline
aithan251@reddit
i built the same thing in gmod
res_ipsa_locketer@reddit
I wish it didn’t look as sick as it does
Daddy_Jaws@reddit
this is the wheeled vehicle equivelent of tankers sstrapping tracks on as "armor" and im all here for it.
though, since tires dont connect like tracks do, maybe racks for tires layered like german roadwheels would be better? it would even work like spaced armor against drones?
sentinelthesalty@reddit
Did covering it in wooden logs not worked?
Few-Top7349@reddit
stealing my fucking idea
Tax_this_dick_1776@reddit
Oh hey I didn’t know they were on an Exodus from the Metro
slump-donkus@reddit
Just give me the bukhanka. It will be safe with me
Hullvanessa@reddit
What works best, radial or bias ply tires ?🤔
Sudden-Fish@reddit
Dragon drone plz
I want to see a rolling tire fire giving away its position for miles and miles
CharlieD00M@reddit
What is the theory behind tire armor?
AnywhereFew9745@reddit
Anything helps when someone is trying to blow you up. Some are speculating it may help with thermals as well but that seems unlikely given the engine will look like a star against black sky in the cold.
Huckorris@reddit
I want to see this idea tested on Demolition Ranch
Hermit_Bottle@reddit
Bring out the 50 cal.
hifumiyo1@reddit
They’re armored up versus those neighborhood kids with rocks
WesternThink@reddit
I got a AT-4 with it on
Reivennob@reddit
I love the mad max van life look!
Salmivalli@reddit
Buhanka has strong crust
ld987@reddit
Mad Max factor in Ukraine is increasing at such a rate that by this time next year Putin will have to defend the presidency in the Thunderdome from upstart challenger lord Humongous.
IShouldbeNoirPI@reddit
That would be great camo in some rocky terrain.
kress404@reddit
i know that Reddit isn't the smartest but i'm saying it for the last time. this is likely meant to reduce the heat signature of the vehicle on thermals. same thing was done in Yugoslavia. still a very bad idea, especially on an unarmored vehicle.
