Trip to London for $1600. 2 weeks with a local friend.

My flight is about $650 USD.
Were splitting the hotel, hoping to find a decent place for under $1000, hoping for a place with a kitchen, we're trying to avoid take out or eating out in general. Does that seem fiesable? Accommodations wise.

I travel to England twice a year and I save money by picking up "ready meals" from stores like Tesco, Marks and Spencer, and Sainsburys. (I like Marks and Spencer best). I rarely dine out. The big museums in London are free. Some have special exhibitions that cost, but they are optional. London will always be expensive but you can do your best. It helps that you are sharing expenses with a friend. Go to Airbnb and use the filters to get results in your budget. Be sure to read carefully, including in the reviews, to check how close they are to tubes, etc. I get that hostels are out of the question for you. But you might consider a shared home where it's the two of you along with the homeowner. It's a lot cheaper. I've never done it before but am considering it for next summer. You might even consider one week in London and one week outside of London in a place more affordable. Brighton is an hour away on the train. Oxford, Bath, and other historic and beautiful places might offer something for you.

Save a lot with a tent. Or just don’t go to London. You can use google maps to see what the city is like instead of physically going

Why you wanna spend two whole weeks in London is then mystery to me. What are you doing all that time. 4 - 5 days max id say. Maybe pick a secondary cheaper location?

I'm confused about what your $1600 budget is going towards, just flight and accommodation?
$1000 each for accommodation, or all together?
Assuming it's $1600 to spend in London (flights already paid for), and $2000 total for accommodation, and $600 for 14 days of groceries and sight seeing ($42 per day)... That's basically nothing. It's possible, but not ideal.

What are you finding when you look? Have you looked at hostels?
