Dickhead hit my car, gave me a fake number

Hi guys, so a guy hit my car in Bletchley’s park yesterday and drove off. I drove after him and he refused to admit he had even hit my car. Gave me a name and number and I took photos of his plate. Is it technically a hit in run as he drove off? Worth going to the police?
TEL-CFC_lad@reddit
I would at least call 101, the non-emergency number.
Glocaticoo@reddit (OP)
Called, they told me won’t do anything about it. Need to let my Insurance deal with it
MolassesPuzzled4624@reddit
I know this is 3 days late. Submit it online.
Glocaticoo@reddit (OP)
I’ve reported to my insurance, his insurance aren’t responding to mine lol
MolassesPuzzled4624@reddit
Unfortunately it takes awhile for insurance companies. My last one took 3 weeks to get sorted ..
TEL-CFC_lad@reddit
Bad luck, but you did what you could. It was worth a shot.

Classic
lonewitch13@reddit
This is considered a hit and run because not only did they drive off (and you had to drive after them) but they then also gave faking information. Ring the non-emergency police line and report.
PatientPoet3146@reddit
Wouldn’t be shocked if it turned out he has no insurance.
Dont_mean2be_a_dick@reddit
He won’t have business insurance
Phiziicz@reddit
What's Business insurance got to do with anything??
Dont_mean2be_a_dick@reddit
A lot of people who use their own vehicles to deliver food don’t get the right insurance to cover it. They get the cheaper insurance for social travel, but don’t pay for business insurance. Technically this means they are not insured but it’s harder to spot unless stopped. I’m just saying I bet he didn’t have business insurance as opposed to no insurance at all
Phiziicz@reddit
There is nothing in the post that suggests he was delivering for a business or driving on the behalf of an organisation...
Can only go off the facts given.
Dont_mean2be_a_dick@reddit
OP said somewhere that the people he was delivering food to were witnesses. I don’t care enough to read it all again but that’s what I was referring to.
Dull_Hawk9416@reddit
Not worth it. I was involved in a hit and run. Took photo of hima nd his vehicle. Police weren’t interested and my insurance blamed me as there were no “witnesses”. I’m still fucking salty about it and this happened a year ago near the hospital
Phiziicz@reddit
Hope you learned from this and bought a dashcam. A video is better than a witness everytime and will save you in situations like these.

I’ve had a similar experience. The police were absolutely awful as were my insurance company.
A hit-and-run like yours. I was in a turning lane between two pedestrian crossing islands when a car tried to overtake me by going around the islands. I saw him approaching in my mirror as I started to turn. I bailed out of the turn, but he swerved back into me. He ended up stopping on the pavement, facing the wrong way, then sped off.
My insurance company argued it was 50/50 fault, suggesting my turn contributed to the accident, despite the other driver’s high speed, being on the wrong side of the pedestrian island, and ignoring a keep-left sign. Insurance seems pointless at times.
RadicalDog@reddit
It sucks doesn't it, if you are even 10% at fault then insurance declares it "fault" and just settles it because that's cheaper than fighting things. I had something less egregious than yours, but still a case of me making 1 small mistake to their 3ish substantial ones leaving no margin for error and insurance decided it was therefore split.
I'd quite like a Judge Judy type show where they bring in people in accidents to argue how actually they're excellent drivers, that's why they can go fast and break rules.
Beartato4772@reddit
Yep, pretty much the same. They claimed they were never in the area and they lived two hours away, police closed it because of “lack of evidence”. Yes, the car was on dashcam.
RadicalDog@reddit
Okay that is absolutely grim. It's one thing if they can weave a convincing lie, but to not look at a minute long video is gross.
sep_nehtar@reddit
The fuck
Beartato4772@reddit
That was broadly my reaction yes.
Tiny_Development_282@reddit
The police might not do anything but your insurance company will want to recoup their losses. If you have the guys registration number that should be all you need.
Glocaticoo@reddit (OP)
Yeah police said wasn’t their problem, insurance want me to pay £375 and I won’t get that money back if the guy says it never happened and I’m making it up 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ this system is so messed up
Phiziicz@reddit
Invest in a dashcam going forwards, you won't have this issue. They are not expensive these days.

Report online and call insurance
al3x696@reddit
Call insurance and police.

loooll
Upstairs-Passenger28@reddit
If you have his number plate call the old bill it's an offence not to supply your insurance details
Agabxksowbd@reddit
Think i saw that happen and recognised one of the guys , think one of them was Ben Coles but that mights be you
Glocaticoo@reddit (OP)
Happened on Saturday at 7:40pm, ima white 20yr old female and he was a 35yr old Asian man
Agabxksowbd@reddit
Nah mb wasn’t u or him 100%
Electronic-Sea1858@reddit
Good luck is all I'll say. My car was hit in the car park at my work (public car park). Phoned 101, reported it as hit and run, they took details, local station called a few days later, took more details then proceeded to do fuck all. This was back in February, still never had an update from them.
Famous-Sand-1277@reddit
Fail to stop at an accident. Needs to be reported on TVP website not 101. Press report then road related incident. Pass it across and then they do the leg work and give you a ref number for your insurance
Rough-Sprinkles2343@reddit
You’ve got his plate
I would call your insurance and 101
Unknown_Author70@reddit
Most insurance policies state that you must inform them of any incident anyway, regardless if OP would like to claim.
Exotic_Notice6904@reddit
Yeh so they can increase yours and everyone in that areas premium
Unknown_Author70@reddit
Yeah true, but if they find out you've not declared something, then later in life need a claim. They'll use that to refuse you coverage.
Depending on how bad OPs damage is, it may just be worth it.. something large like a t-bone dent would easily show as historic damage on a incident that involved any other part of the car.
Original_Image_5794@reddit
How they gonna find out if you don't declare it though?
mebutnew@reddit
The other party might.
Original_Image_5794@reddit
After performing a hit and run? Not really sure they're gonna declare it to their insurance ...
Wyldwiisel@reddit
Make sure you have a witness friend from down the pub was walking by put the claim in tell the insurance he wouldn't give details they will sort rest provided you got a witness
Glocaticoo@reddit (OP)
The people he was delivering food to are witnesses lol
Deaf_Paradox@reddit
How would the damage cost for you to repair? Regardless of blame if you make a claim you have to tell them for the next 5 years and your insurance goes up.
If it’s a minor dent, as annoying as it is. Don’t bother.
Glocaticoo@reddit (OP)
The whole side of my car is scratched up pretty severely
Beartato4772@reddit
It’s a hit and run but don’t bank on the police actually doing anything about it judging by how a similar situation went for me.
Comprehensive_Cut437@reddit
Fail to stop is an offence and I think it would count do one stopped but don’t give the correct details
timjhobbs@reddit
I am unsure if you could call a hit'n'run, but they did leave the scene of an accident without leaving any details and then gave false details? I would call 101 immediately
