Apartments in Addison

Wife and I are moving up to Addison in January and are going to be touring some apartment complexes up there in the near future. They all look really nice online but I'm curious if anyone has insider info on certain places like management, maintenance, any BS fees they may charge etc.

Which ones? I lived in MAA and Cortland both in Addison circle.

I'm currently looking at both of those options. Which one did you prefer?

I preferred Cortland, our apartment was nicely updated and MAA was a bit older and not as high end finished, but Cortland was more expensive.

Do you think it was worth the extra $300-400 per month?
The big thing for us is safety. Too many incidents in Houston have made us look elsewhere.

Cortland and MAA are literally almost the same complex. I could see our Cortland apartment across the dog park from our MAA apartment. Safety wise, they’re both the same. For what it’s worth I never felt unsafe in either. Lots of young people, lots of dogs, lots of activity. If money isn’t a concern I’d go Cortland because it’s nicer IMO.

Top 5: Jewel on Landmark, Villa Piana, The Saxony, Prairie Crossing, The Lana

The Saxony and Villa Piana are owned by a crap company that also owns The Dorchester apartments. I highly do NOT recommend any of those. I had a terrible time at The Dorchester and couldn’t get out of there fast enough.

What makes them so bad?

I stay at Vitruvian. Haven’t had any significant problems. Maintanence when called for, usually gets it done within the week. Management hasnt been a problem, and I have them on text for any problems I encounter like lost packages, etc. Although, when living with other people, there are going to be many things out of your control like broken amenities, sneaking in to the garage, broken garage doors, etc. No hidden fees from IDR itself. Overall, I like it here, and plan on staying for longer unless a better deal at another apartment complex pops up near my lease end.
I have friends who used to live here and now at Jewel at Landmark. They like it much better over there. Trash service at their door, packages being delivered to your door from a 3rd party carrier service, and their garages ALWAYS have space for parking at ANY time of day. I can attest to that!
Not too many bad thinga to say, but just dealing with other people and their ignorance (Parking at intersections within the complex, or not picking up after themselves).
