>**The sale will reduce Nissan's current stake in Mitsubishi from 34.07 percent to a 24.05 percent holding.** It's unclear from the article whether this means that Mitsubishi will no longer be under the executive control of Nissan. It does say that they will continue to partner on certain vehicles moving forward but also seems like Mitsubishi is going to be more independent in what they decide to do.

Probably not, it looks like Renault would replace Nissan as new biggest Mitsubishi owner. Renault also owns them. European Mitsubishi is now selling Renault models, so you can expect the future of Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi could just replace Nissan as Renault favorite Japanese brand instead. Of course, there is no thing Nissan able to do, as they’re in hard time in money and sales losing. They definitely have to sell some Mitsubishi market share for the money.

I tried to look it up but I don’t think Renault owns any controlling shares of Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi’s involvement was through Nissan. And Nissan/Renault reduced their shares to I think 15% holding in each other after they restructured the Alliance.

I don't know what their deal is either but in Europe Mitsubishi are selling rebadged Renaults now. The new Colt is a rebadged Clio and the new ASX is a rebadged Captur.

They can do something with the Triton, uncross over the eclipse, then bring back the evo and maybe try brining back the Galant? Someone mentioned the Starion as competition to the GR86/BRZ and i don't think that's a bad idea either.

If it were to happen, the new Z would have been the perfect chance. Make a new GTO/3000GT based on the Z platform.

I'd rather they bring back the evo or eclipse before touching the 3000GT.

I know everyone chomps at the bit for a new Evo, but for me looking at the success of the GR86/BRZ, I say bring back the Starion badge with a small 2+2 coupe and a 4b11t at a good price point and you're in the money.  The FA engine is the single thing keeping me from buying a GR86, if there was an offer with a regular I4 from Toyota or this kind of thing from Mits I would be all over it.

I can’t wait to see the day where Mitsubishi goes higher market than Nissan. And truly turns the table leaving Nissan, the broke boy auto manufacturer.

Without Nissan, Mitsubishi Motors wouldn’t be alive right now lol. Mitsubishi Corp abandoned them a while ago and gave them to Nissan and Renault.

Right that’s what would make it even more impressive. Mitsubishi survived, and one of them in the long run. Growing up as a car enthusiast I never had Nissan falling this far from Grace on my bingo book.
View on Reddit #40179422

_OUCHMYPENIS_@reddit

I doubt any of them go anywhere and Nissan seems to have improved the build quality of their cars.  Unless I read wrong about the cvt being improved and them moving to traditional autos in the suvs.

Honestly, they’re vehicles are perfectly fine for commuters. The styling is ok, they are decent inside and they are reliable if you take out the CVT. They just need to abandon that god forsaken transmission entirely because even if they fixed it, it has an awful reputation

Good to hear they're retaking their independence. The whole "Nissan has bought Mitsubishi" thing happened under weird circumstances. Nissan and Mitsubishi made a car together for the Japanese market. Nissan were working on the 2nd generation car while Mitsubishi had designed the first. Nissan weren't making the expected gains in fuel economy vs the first gen, and when they challenged Mitsubishi on this, Mitsubishi admitted tampering with tyre pressures in certification testing. This was soon after dieselgate, so Mitsubishi, who weren't in great shape already, took a hammering in the market, and Nissan bought into them. Never sat right with me. Yes, cheating on the test was wrong, but Nissan sold their version of the first gen car quietly for years. Nissan being both the ones to find the issue, and then to benefit from it, all feels a bit too Ghosn era for my liking.

Nissan and Mitsubishi know how to makes cars. They still make a wide variety elsewhere that seem to be pretty popular in their home market, though they may be kei cars.

I was recently in the US and had a late-model Nissan Rogue (X-Trail where I am from) as a rental. It was a perfectly reasonable vehicle. However... its cruise control system would slam on the brakes, while cruising at 75mph on the interstate, when it encountered what it believed to be a reduced speed zone, like road construction et al, despite there being no actual reduction. I found this very obtrusive and dangerous. It absolutely would prevent me from buying one if there is no way to disable that.

I wish they'd bring the delica over here and advertise it as a family fun 4wd vehicle. I love those things and they were all over Japan. They also have a kei version of it which was cute but probably not very capable.

I daily a 2007 Pajero short wheelbase, which is also my off-road rig, and my wife drives a 2007 fullsize Pajero and uses it for towing a horse trailer. I have also previously had a '99 Montero Sport, and my wife had a 2001 Mitsubishi Legnum VR4 when she and I met. I kind of have a soft-spot for Mitsubishi and I hope they have a renaissance.
