Literally no line to meet Brent Spiner today at the meadowlands convention center

Just thought it was weird. Not a lot of people at the convention at the time but still, figured there would be at least a little wait. 🤷

This is sad. I don't know why, but it really is a downer. Have the new shows soured fans of Trek? SNW and that other thing ain't really good. The moment I figured out SNW was an alternate universe, I thought, "that's it. Trek has finally been trashed." First the Kelvin timeline which wasn't necessary, now this. If they wanted to avoid messing up canon, it's too late. "Enterprise" did that already. And where can you go from "Picard?" I liked it but it was more like a fever dream than Trek. Â

SNW is in an alternate universe???

Does anyone else have no desire to meet any actor? I’d like to meet some actresses just to see them, but actors? Meh.
warp16@reddit
Yeah, as they say ‘don’t meet your heroes’
JonnyTheBrav@reddit
You can’t disappoint a picture!
Physical-Name4836@reddit
I’d love to meet them some place they want to be, like some cool Hollywood party. Not some convention.
Piper6728@reddit
How much was it?
I know that at times celebrities jack up prices to cut the fat and stop swarms of fans
Scary-Ratio3874@reddit (OP)
$100 for selfie and signed photo.
woman_noises@reddit
If you go to a specific Star Trek or Sci Fi con, they can get long lines, I've seen it. But I think they tend to get less lines when they attend a general pop culture convention.
Geetright@reddit
I wonder why?? I hope that didn't make him sad 😔
FunArtichoke6167@reddit
What Fresh Hell is he in now? He was canceled once before after the incident.
Plane_Sport_3465@reddit
That's a GREAT little series!
secondtaunting@reddit
There was an incident?
Scary-Ratio3874@reddit (OP)
well I just learned about this now
secondtaunting@reddit
Didn’t they cancel that?
Scary-Ratio3874@reddit (OP)
Yeah it seems to be a short lived you tube show.
Karmadillo1@reddit
the incident?
Geetright@reddit
THE incident.
Karmadillo1@reddit
Not the INCIDENT?
Geetright@reddit
🤣🤣🤣 such a great series
Starbugmechanic@reddit
He does not get sad, he has no emotions.
erdricksarmor@reddit
Unless he has the emotion chip installed.
Scary-Ratio3874@reddit (OP)
He seemed fine to me. Very nice guy.
Comfortable-Dog-8437@reddit
Weird
baconinspace@reddit
Same thing happened with Jonathan Frakes and Michael Dorn at RI Comicon. I felt like I should be waiting in line for an hour, but I walked right up. They were such huge stars when I was a kid. Jonathan Frakes is great btw.
supermarketsweeps25@reddit
Agreed! I was there too, but did have to wait about ten minutes. Both were so nice.
esaum0@reddit
HOW?! 😳
shaundisbuddyguy@reddit
I saw John delancie at a fan expo a few years ago and he was alone at his booth. I'm older so it was kinda surreal to see no one talking to him and quiet. Sign of the times I suppose.
gogozombie2@reddit
I saw John signing with Marina Sirtis and Robert Picardo, and he and Marina were swamped while Robert was basically ignored. I ended up hanging out with Robert for like a hour just bullshitting. It was a lot of fun.Â
Super-Skymaster@reddit
Picardo is a renaissance man, too. Talk about a guy with multiple talents and broad knowledge.
gogozombie2@reddit
We mostly bullshitted about our favorite food spots in Philadelphia since we both from there.
cyberchaox@reddit
That truly amazes me, because if it was only a few years ago, he'd have not only Trekkies but also Bronies.
XxTrashPanda12xX@reddit
He was also Jesse's gf's dad in Breaking Bad (the air traffic controller). But, it's probably not as well known even by Breaking Bad fans.
Jovet_Hunter@reddit
He played an amazing bad guy in The Young Riders.
Aware-Courage1208@reddit
I didn't recognize it was him until recently and I've seen the show like 5 times.
I_am_Daesomst@reddit
I mean, I'd have to imagine most fans know him by Jane's Dad or the guy that causes the airlines to crash - the scene he has with Walt in the bar is fantastic
rexpup@reddit
He pretty notably despises bronies except when getting paid
shaundisbuddyguy@reddit
That's true and I'm pretty sure he had signed photos of that character posted up behind him for sale.
ClarkMann52@reddit
The guilt just keeps stacking up
DeekmanToady@reddit
John is my most favorite of Trek. I’d love to be in that situation! Plenty of time, lemme bend your ear.
shaundisbuddyguy@reddit
Honestly looking back on it I wish I did exactly that. If I had the time and in different company just to shake his hand would have been a treat in itself.
meatshieldjim@reddit
Well Brent Spiner didn't want to play Data so...
dnkroz3d@reddit
I saw the same thing at the 2014 Wizardcon in Chicago. No one in line to get autographs from Levar Burton, Brent Spiner, or Jonathan Frakes, but 50 at least in line to see Patrick Stewart.
JustToReadAndVote@reddit
I was at the 2012 one... actually ran into P. Stew face to face when he was leaving for lunch, otherwise I'd not have had a chance with anyone.
Also smoked a cigarette outside with Peter Mayhew! Just for a sec, didn't crowd him.
Scary-Ratio3874@reddit (OP)
I would have gotten all four if I was there and had the money....
secondtaunting@reddit
Me too. And the. I’d stand in line to see Stewart.
Jupiter_Crash_@reddit
What?! People are crazy. Data and Geordi are my favorites! Plus, I was hugely into Reading Rainbow.
I just don’t get it.
Cyke101@reddit
I feel like Levar Burton would be ok with that situation, since he's been getting like all the awards lately.
And Frakes is probably second only to Patrick Stewart out of the TNG cast when it comes to sheer wealth thanks to all his directing work.
rolsskk@reddit
How much was he charging?
Scary-Ratio3874@reddit (OP)
$100 for a photo with him and he signed an 8X10
CaptainMatticus@reddit
That'd do it. He may charge that much by design. Still make some decent money for the day, but doesn't have to deal with an endless line of people saying the same things to him that he has heard 10000x before.
VajennaDentada@reddit
Maybe cause he kind of hates Data and has never watched the TNG episodes?
He's my favorite character / least favorite real human person
Scary-Ratio3874@reddit (OP)
Oh I did not know that. Then I'm glad we talked about Night Court.
bluekronos@reddit

el_sandino@reddit
Wait really? Can you point me to some info on this?
VajennaDentada@reddit
I heard it from the resident Star Trek historian at Red Letter Media in their Picard review or First Contact OR Robservations.... I'll see if I can find it....I know it's quite the claim.
To be more positive: Michael Dorn was said to live in sci fi ... and enjoys exploring and talking about it.. which I thought was really cool.
I worked in show business for over a decade, and it doesn't surprise me in the least. Actors are people and their generation is not typically into sci fi or Geek culture
PrestegiousWolf@reddit
He is such a cool guy, amazing sense of humor.
PhilAggie1888@reddit
I am not sure why this happened. But I am sure the Ferengi are somehow involved.
