No, the American left still very much has their finger on the pulse of the nation. The issue is that the Democrats and centrists refuse to listen to the left for fear of being seen as "too radical."
That's how we've ended up with a second DJT presidency. The Democrats didn't listen to the left, again, and now they want to act all surprised Pikachu.
As Bernie said, the Democrats abandoned the working class, so it should come as no surprise that the working class abandoned the Democrats in the polls.
Maybe some self awareness would serve you well. The American populous just gave the left its come uppance. The largest popular vote win by a Republican since Reagan. But you do you and we will have 4 years of DJT and 8 years of Vance.
Way to not be self aware. The person just appointed Queen Presidential nominee was labeled the most far left Senator in the US. Further left than Bernie Sanders. The denial is thick here

Exacty! Doubling down in leftist policies is cutting your own throat. Get a bigger brain and actually use it. Times are changing and changing fast. Stop with the pronoun nonsense because the vast majority of the population couldn't give two shits what you want to be called, and while you're at it, stop with the regendering bullshit. Do you actually think the majority of the population cares or even understands? These two social issues are the main problems of the Democrats. Democrats beat themselves in this election. And fuck people.
Leftist politics haven't even been discussed in this country. The identity politics and all that? Yeah, it's all a smokescreen deployed by the Democrats to pander to their audience so they don't have to make any actual policy or contributions whatsoever to furthering leftism.
Bernie's statement was spot on...if you took a time traveler from 1990 to 2024 and told them the Ds were now for pointless wars, endorsed by the Cheney's and beholden to the elite over working class their minds would be blown
They'll have to move center. Bill Clinton would be considered right wing now. Time to assess how far the shift has moved.... or not and double down...and lose in 28
No, they need to pretend to move center, run a center-left candidate and then push through as much progressive legislation as possible, so that the country can actually benefit.
More Reaganomics is not going to save this country. We need to put wealth back in the hands of the people. We need unions back. We need a labor movement in this country again.
For of all you had a terrible candidate who nothing new to add. She didn’t have ideas that she was fighting for. She wasn’t a Bernie Sanders who could speak for hours on his beliefs and take follow-up and more follow up questions. The price gouging doesn’t exist and never polled well. (You don’t think that Merrick Garland would have the justice department investigate it). She was weak. She ran on “I’m not Trump.” That was good for about 47% of the electorate but not a winning strategy.
Tax credits is not the same thing as money. Start a business that loses money for the first year there goes your tax credit. Not to mention how many people really intend to start a business. Certainly not the majority of Americans who are living paycheck to paycheck and have little access to capital at manageable rates. Mortgage rates are still 2-4 percent higher on average (luckily down from 5-7). That is literally 100,000s of dollars over the term of a 30 year mortgage. And this all assumes I have the means to save for a down payment.
It’s pretty obvious women’s rights aren’t even a priority for women. It can be the cherry on top of a winning platform. But it’s not going to get ya there on its own. People are too self centered in America. They want to know what you can do for them and are less concerned about what you could do for others. And most people in this country either live in a state without bans or assume they will have the means to travel interstate or not have the need to get an abortion.
There are already tons of laws to try to encourage competitive pricing. What evidence from Democratic Party leadership shows they have any intention of using the powers of government to benefit consumers at the expense of stock holders. The economy is growing at a faster rate than inflation yet people feel they are struggling more than ever and have great fears that things are getting worse not better.
Liberals want real change. And it’s pretty obvious the right also wants change. Which is why they voted for a populist even if he is a sociopath and a moron. It’s why they like him over whatever career Republican gets trotted out to beat him with your typical Republican messaging. The party of Reagan/Cheney is officially dead. At least for them he offers an alternative path forward. Trump is done in 4 years. It’s abundantly clear liberals and conservatives alike did not want 4-8 years of the same even if they are pretty unhappy with a second trump presidency. I guess Biden will not be the transition president he promised to be. But hopefully in 2024 democrats can actually finally embrace the change of direction they have sorely lacked since 2010. They need their next Obama to set the tone for the party for millennials and gen z the same way Obama set the tone for gen x. And you will see a blue wave just like you did in 08. Clinging to that tone in 2016 and 2024 caused them to lose and they vastly underperformed in 2020 after a very unpopular trump presidency.
Fair point and it is indeed sad that women don't care about their rights
I've known people are very self centered I wasn't shocked by how evil and self centered people acted during the beginning of covid like mosy people were. I have always been able to see through people I met in person with some type of 6th sense/intuition and therfore had small circles of friends.
I just fail to see what Trump actually offered anyone that would make them vote for him. (Other than the culture wars bs that only appeals to his cult) I guess no taxes on tips but just like you said about starting businesses that's only a niche market. There is also no tax on overtime but are the independent/swing voters really that uninformed that he through Project 2025 is going to change the FSLA so that it's much harder to get. I know his cult wouldn't hear about it but it's been all over independent news media/political content creators(David Pakman, Farron Balanced, Brian Tyler Cohen, Medias Touch,)
Appreciate your question and that you were not an ass when asking (jaded by reddit here).
I really would like to answer with nuance but this site has exhausted me and I cant right now.
All Ill say is that the leaders of the Dems have time and time again over the last 8 years shown they think they know everything when in fact they know nothing.
No candidate since Obama has been picked via primary and instead the "leaders" of the party have picked and had their asses handed to them.
Theres much more but Im tired of adding facts in good faith on this site. Good faith discussion is dead.
What rhetoric? Do you mean lying about the economy, about oil production, about children going to school and getting sex changes, about immigrants eating pets (or calling said immigrants 'illegal" when they are here legally), about crime....
Out of honest curiosity. What was the ridiculous rhetoric, and what do you feel they did not listen to from the people? I've been in the echo chamber for quite some time. Trump winning the popular vote pulled me out of it. Genualy interested to hear more.
The DNC has not had a true primary race since Obama won the nom and then the presidency.
The heads of the DNC have been picking who they think "deserves it or is needed" themselves.
They got lucky with Biden. People had an abundance of free time to vote. Plus, the big thing was that Trump ahot himself in the foot with his handling of Covid. If Trump had only fucked up half as bad as he did - he would have won 2020 as well.
Theres more but this is one of the key issues.
The Dem leadership thinks they know best. Always. They clearly dont as show over the last 8 years.
Yet just today, Pelosi is out there blaming Biden.
They just dont learn and truly think their shit doesnt stink. I dont see a Dem winning the presidency in 2028 unless theres some major changes to the Dem party.
Those wont happen until the losers at the top retire. Though they won't, ever. They love the power. Maybe not for malicious reasons and possibly because they think they know better than everyone else. They are out of touch and are driving their bus off the cliff time and time again.
Dam. That was a well thought out and realistic take on the state of the Democratic party. I'm hoping to see more of this in the coming years. I'm super tired of people just calling each other assholes. Me being guilty as fuck of that.
So, what message do you think gave Trump the win? I do see now that he united a bunch of people that don't even particularly like each other. It was honestly pretty incredible.
It has to be something else besides inflation, though, right? I think most people remember it spiking towards the end of the Covid lock downs when Trump was still President (not his fault, obviously), and now it's almost 2%. Pretty incredible recovery if you ask me. I think most people also know, maybe not younger people, that prices of products after a period of high inflation will never go back down. That's just not how capitalism works. The economy is always a great talking point, but I would like to think the electorate remembers recent history.
Immigration maybe? Even I, as a dyed in the wool leftist, would love to see illegal immigrants with a criminal history of violent crime get thrown out. But where I live, we have tons of illegals (super Republican part of state), and everyone seems to get along. We have like 2 bars, so MAGA and illegals and us leftists get trashed together all the time and we have dam good time. So I'm not sure most of America (small rural towns) actually experience problems stemming from illegal migration.
Foreign policy? I think that's a big one. Now that we are out of Afghanistan, lots of people would like to move even more towards isolationism. This one I get. I don't agree with that approach personally, but I deffinetly understand the position. If it ends up working, great. Quit a few people I love are active military, and I'm into anything that will keep them out of harms way. I just hope we aren't putting off the inevitable.
I dont think all the people who voted for Trump even agree on any of those three things. That was a bit of a ramble. I'm mostly just thinking out loud. I've gone way off topic. But I'd love to hear some opinions from anyone on what they think the underlying unifying message was from the Trump campaign. Because something touched the American people deeply enough to basicly give that guy one of the craziest and most decisive wins in American history.
We, as a nation, deserve a leader who embodies the worst of us. America willed Trump into existence. He was created from our greed, our insecurities, and our selfishness. We have summoned him from the depths of our own bile and neediness, and he has answered.
And now that he is here, we deserve our fate, because the most fundamental truth about Trump’s reelection is that Trump was right about us.
He will be president again because he, and perhaps he alone, saw us for how truly base, depraved, and uninformed we are as a country. Trump is not a root cause of our ills. He did not create the conditions that allowed him to rise. He is, and always has been, a mirror. He is how America sees itself.
The president of the United States is the singular figure who is supposed to represent all Americans, and Trump reflects us more accurately than perhaps any president ever has.
That’s why the people who love him love him so passionately. He is them. And he tells them that being what they are is OK. He never for a second requires America to be better than it is. Trump tells America to be garbage.
Good thing he actually did tell them all before they deployed that he was running for congress to support them and their families, support for the military that the incumbent wasn't doing enough work on. And good thing he told each and every one of his soldiers exactly why it wasn't going to go with them to Iraq and that the guy that was taking his place, who is loved by all of those same men, was going to take good care of them in the field, and so all the men were quite pleased and happy to hear it.And if you're going to give the Orange madness a free pass on misstatements and forgetting almost everything, you got to give Walz just a one day pass ornament statement made 20 years after the fact
huh..... maybe the guy who took over, the guy who just got back from a deployment and was hoping to spend time with his family but got only a few short weeks to get ready for another deployment, the REAL command sgt maj, he must have had TBI and forgot Tim told him anything at all when he told reporters he was totally blindsided and got no help from Tim.
Maybe all of Tim's soldiers had TBI too when they also went on record saying Timmy lied to them promising to stay with them and then disappearing as they deployed.
I guess Timmy's chain of command ALSO has amnesia because they can't find any record of him going through any of the proper channels.....
Maybe you lied when you said "all" of Coach Walz' soldiers were paid to lie on record. Maybe just some of them lied about Coach. Maybe just some of them were paid enormous sums by the Musk $multibillion funded "smear the enemy by any means true or false" campaign? Maybe. How about 'actually'? Sounds more reasonable. Hell, that sounds like basic common sense, like any libertarian might proudly say.
who say anything about getting paid?? this is what happens to you types when you can't face reality, you start layering on the conspiracies until the world makes sense to you again.
Nifty little whataboutism. No one buys it. It's you who is committed to spreading conspiracy stuff. 99% of his soldiers reported total satisfaction with Walz, and but when a handful of born complainers get convinced by Trump campaign staffers to get revenge on Walz for perceived slights or actual dressing downs they might have received from Walz during their time in service by misrepresenting their feelings about Walz for compensation, misdirected vengeance, and political gain. The "Reality" you think I can't handle is Your conspiracy theory.
First, when you call a grown man, football coach, and state governor "Timmy" when no one else does, you expose yourself as a childish fraud.
Second, it's all I the public records that each and every one of his soldiers reported 100% satisfaction and love of the man at the time he made the ultimate sacrifice to run for office to uphold military rights and privileges. The same ones that Trump and his mafioso thugs are trying to rip away from our freedom fighters. So the Trump campaign makes a bunch of feeler phone calls to see if any of them want to change their tune and deliberately lie on TV to spread untruth about the grown man, father, husband, coach, governor, and all around great guy Tim Walz, expressly in order to fool right winf media consumers into supportig the Orange man who cares not one fig for hardly any of his MAGA followers EXCEPT their votes and once he has those he throws them overboard. You can expect the 22nd Amendment and even the Second Amendment to be overruled by executive order, about a year into his administration as his oligarch team realizes that they can seize power from the people with a simple flick of a ballpoint pen.
I call him Timmy because I can and I think it fits him.
"made the ultimate sacrifice"......? huh? did he die??? Running for public office and a six figure salary.... HUGE sacrifice yeah anyone that got blown up in combat should sit down and shut up when Timmy talks. lol
and I'm the childish one sheesh
What rights and privileges exactly?? why don't you name a few, I'm curious.
why does an "all around great guy" need to lie about his deployments and his rank? I'm curious.
It was Timmy who said that civilians should not have guns btw. Just FYI.
I call bs on all your claims. Especially the guns one. Walz was one of this nation's most committed protectors of the 2d Amendment since Madison wrote the damn amendment into the Bill of rights. All he stopped was a few fully automatic machine guns and suitcase nukes that you gun nuts want everyone, including 4 year olds to own and detonate. Sit down and STFU.
The suitcase nukes was deliberately placed there as a test to see if you would compare your wildly imaginative claim against mine and find that yours was more believable. Unfortunate for you you failed that test miserably. Unfortunate due to the fact that your theories are equally wild. You see, there was no ginning up of anything on my end of this conversational bargain. And as you can see, it is in fact you who has (1) taken a strong dislike to the first Amendment by abusing it simply to make baseless character attacks when you don't believe that they are true and only do so for political purposes, and (2) suffers from a typically sad misunderstanding of the Second Amendment given how hard Walz has fought and continues to fight for upholding the 2d Amendment as originally conceived by the founding fathers and not by some profit-mongering arms manufacturer association.
oh no Yu-Gi-Oh!! a trap card??? lol really? and what claim did I make that compares to suitcase nukes?
I see i will have to hold your hand:
1) the first amendment is an absolute statement of right. you can't abuse it by exercising it. the first amendment is no more lessened by you, nor I, nor a flat earther expressing our individual opinions.
2) when you caveat and put conditions on your statements "according to ...." then you are double speaking. it's a cheap ploy to make you seem more rational and reasonable but you used it poorly. Here I can do it too "Candidate XYZ is fighting for the right of women as originally conceived by John Norman" see? makes perfect sense right?
There is a thing called "cheapening" as in degrading, lessening the value of, etc. If your position is that lies and deceptions must be believed "because of the first amendment" then you put the cart before the horse and the horses end up damaging the cart of free speech so much that the philosophical/moral rationales for upholding it begin to lose legitimacy. And this is the road you want us all to go down. Sad. I merely disagree and propose that freedom of expression is intended for truths honestly held by beleivers to be protected even when others disagree with their version of truth. But when, like you, a person has no belief in the truth of their assertions and make them merely for political or other instrumental purposes (e.g., to coax others to believe in the truth of something you know with certainty to be a falsehood) that tends to fall outside of the intention/purpose of the Amendment and moves into the real of fraud and similar wrongdoing. That is why truth is always a defense to slander or libel causes of action.
When someone decides to be particular and specify and not simply speak on broad detail-free generalities, you call this "placing illegal caveats and conditions" on the broad generalities. Sounds like cheap plot to avoid trying to arrive at agreement or at least to try to narrow the grounds for disagreement down to this that are irreconcilable.
I didn't say you HAD to believe me. you are free to have and express your own opinions.
See you think that your opinions are fact, and so you have no respect for civil discourse. You can't attack my position, you have no real arguments, so you attack me directly. Then you resort to twisting words around.
and then you just dodge second statement entirely. Which is ok you probably are not familiar with that author nor his work.
If Timmy had the true spirit of the second ammendment on his mind then he would talk about that, but he doesn't. he chooses to fear monger instead. Just the way most of the left does. Legislation by fear is the MO of the left. You just have to listen to the way that he talks to know he doesn't believe in the 2nd amendment.
Here are two facts you should be aware of. First of all the first Amendment doesn't apply even at all unless it is alleged that it is the government that is trying to shut down the communication. That's constitutional law 101, and even Thomas, Alito, and the rest on SCOTUS will laugh you out of the building if you try to argue otherwise. But you may be hinting at is common law or state statutory law that allows private individuals to say nasty things about public figures depending on their status as public figures. But it's not absolute, if you well know from the laws of libel and slander, such as when what's her name won that libel judgement against Trump.
When it comes to personal attacks, anyone that's read our conversation we'll see that it is only you who has have done that with your "idiot" and so on. Show me one instance in which I attempt to lure our vast audience, and you know plenty of people are reading this, by calling you some sort of a name or declare your character to be immoral and so on. You can't. It just didn't happen. So again it would be wise not to mischaracterize me.
Anyway it was Trump himself who said that he rules by fear in an interview with Bob Woodward and Robert Costa on March 31st 2016 at the Old Post office pavilion at the Trump international Hotel Washington DC. "Real power is and I don't even want to use the word, fear."
Liberals on the other hand constantly strive to implement solutions that the public requests, thereby showing the liberals to be the true public servants. And they're always willing to adapt and modify the legislation if there's anything remotely affecting the legislation by any primary purpose of creating fear. For that primary purpose is of course Donald Trump's primary purpose. For instance, he keeps harping on this fear that the liberals are going to take away all your weapons and guns and eviscerate 2A, when nothing could be further from the truth. Yet another one of his Big Lies not unlike the Stop the Steal nonsense that he whipped up like the biggest brattiest baby in human history, and when he initiates a permanent dictatorship on day one of his new administration (which he already promised to do explicitly) one of his first actions will be to require all Americans to hand in their weapons because an armed public cannot be trusted to not use their weapons against the dictatorship. All rational dictatorships absolutely need to have a monopoly on gun ownership to survive. Take Trump's admiration for Vladimir Putin for example. Notice how he never mentions that Putin was responsible for eliminating all private gun ownership in the Russian Federation, enabling only those in the established military and police forces, and some authorized deputies always authorized by the state to own any weapons of any kind other than say a pitchfork or knife. And the gun nuts here other are completely ignorant of that fact, or if they know about it they just pretend it doesn't exist as if it's some sort of a flaw in The Matrix that they can ignore. There is a cruel but irresistible logic to this. The dictator must have this level of comolete control, and cannot abide a public that can turn on it at any moment. Liberals on the other hand are willing to put up with this risk while they protect the Second Amendment and don't try to overturn it like Trump is most certainly bound to do as his authoritarian dictatorship turns into a dynastic monarchy, so that when he dies Don Jr takes over and so forth, and of course that will be the end of any national presidential elections, which his administration will abolish that the stroke of a Sharpie with a good laugh and a nice long golf game afterwards. And when you get upset about this state of affairs it will be too late because your weapons will have been taken from you by Guess Who the big Donald Trump and his shock troops. So good luck with all that.
it's not that you personally have violated my first amendment rights. it was the implication in your words that is a situational right, or a conditional one. I believe in freedom of speech so even though I am not part of the government i still encourage everyone to exercise it as much as possible.
I haven't seen that interview yet I'm still looking it up but haven't found that quote. "real power is fear" is a very old concept and one that has been written about since at least Machiavelli. It is very unfortunate but there is power in fear. that's not what I'm talking about I'm referring to the difference between:
"if we don't elect XYZ the world will burn!!!!"
vs
"if we elect XYZ we can implement a new policy and start a new program that will do the following to help the community and here is how we will audit it......"
Democrats and Republicans both use fear mongering. they just use it in different ways. so depending on which side you are on, it looks OK. I understand people who are afraid of guns, as much as people who are afraid to have them taken away. Liberals ans conservatives are cultural distinctions that aren't actually at odds. it's the politicians that want to to think they are different. I bet there are a lot of things you are very conservative about, just as I am liberal about some things.
Americans do exercise their speech rights to the maximum extent possible and often way beyond the legally permissible limits (hence all the libel, slander, fraud, embezzlement, and other speech related crimes). It's not that there's some sort of shortage or embargo on free speech in this country, the one country int he entire world with the most expensive set of free speech laws and free speech culture. Just compare us with Communist Chine for Christ's sake. We love got it made in the shade when it comes to speech rights.
The real problem is something else and likely stems from multiple causes. Pundits and scholars have their theories as to cause but all agree the symptoms are an ever shrinking respect for facts, a conflation of opinion for fact, social media's tendency to erode the national community and promote ever more and ever smaller communities siloed off from one another, the ever increasing divide between haves and have nots, the oligarchization of ownership and control of both private and now public resources, the media industry's collective decision to put the interests of their investors ever more ahead of the public interests of responsible ethical journalism. And there are probably many more symptoms I havent mentioned. It's a not a good situation, and platforms like X are simply fanning the fires with claims that are growing increasingly bonkers (and alarming) with each passing day. The sheer volume of X posts demanding the immediate raiding of private residences, dragging them and their families to a public square to be executed in the most public and gruesome way possible for some perceived slights and all without even a hint of due process and not even a kangaroo court. They've begin to lose patience even with joke trials. They want the blood.
Responsible members of the national community need to be aware that we poison and give cancer to this great experiment in democracy if all we do all day long is use our free speech rights and privileges to yell and lie at each other and, like Salome, the daughter of Herodias did re John the Baptist, demand that our opponents head be brought to us on a plate.
I apologize if I started this thread with you in an overly hostile mood and with not the highest standards of communication and argumentation.
Interesting note: I've read Machiavelli's Discourses and The Prince, and in both works he notes that, while fear is a tool rulers can rely on and should in certain instances, the ruler who chooses to rely exclusively on fear hamstrings himself and won't be able to rely on the public to protect him and thus must hire mercenary armies, but the ruler who succeeds in being both feared and loved is the one that can create a citizen army. Machiavelli would've thought highly of Napoleon Bonaparte 1 in the early years. But alas, Napoleon "went too far" and burned up his credibility by being too narcissistic and "me-first."
When I look at Trump I see a ruler who before he became a ruler started out being largely loved but who has over the years slowly turned to fear as his primary motivational tool, culminating with his "You're fired" The Apprentice show. His problem is he was rather a celebrity and somewhat beloved going into the presidency, and so he probably thinks he's got years and years of credibility that he can slowly burn away by abusing the public's trust in his own financial interest. Slowly burn up all that love, as if it were gasoline in a gas tank that will help him get from point A to point B. That's why he was so upset when those criminal indictments hit him. He was thinking gosh dang it I didn't think that the public would have the balls to point the finger at me while I was doing all these shenanigans behind the scenes.
You are not listening to my comments on free speech. When school boards and PTAs band members or have them arrested because they don't like what a parent has to say, that's a violation of free speech. When companies punish their employees for privately held opinions, that's a violation. When public forums editorialize and abuse their title 42 protections, this is a violation. It might not be a violation of the first amendment as the government was not the violator. it does show a lake of respect for the concept of freedom of speech.
The reason why we have the most freedom of speech of anyone in the world is because wr defend it all the time.
So you will call out the manufactured cultural divisions, the compartmentalization of demographics into smaller and smaller groups .... but then in the same paragraph you criticize X for taking down those barriers and opening all the compartments. People should air out their most extreme opinions in a public forum, so that they can be addressed with discussion and conversation and we don't resort to violence because we don't feel pur voices are being heard.
There are radicals on both sides.
it's fine, things are heated. I'm sure you are not an idiot. I jumped the gun on that when what I mean is i find some ideas so silly that they lack intelligence. not an excuse to name call.
Machiavelli did say that, he also said love was fickle and seemed to find fear more reliable. Not sure what he would have thought Bonepart. A great commander, artillery man, and propagandist..... his own legend did go to his head a bit.
Just finished watching "turning point" on Netflix did we? I am not sure how much of a mentor he was, that he was around for awhile is clear, but I don't he was trumps only mentor.
Think about trump like a salesman for a second, and then consider what you said: the scandal, the sensationalism,.... Trump had a product and he knew how to sell it. About 30 years ago he gave an interview where he said that to be president is to be hated and to have a lot of unpopular opinions and make decisions no one will like. Trump didn't create this cultural divide, he is just the latest symptom. Trump isn't the one creating the fear, it was already there. He is just trolling. Is it mature? is it responsible? no, I don't think so. People acting based solely on their emotions, shaving their heads because of an election? I'm reminded of the civilians on Okinawa killing their children and themselves because they were brainwashed into thinking the marines would do horrible unspeakable things to them. The marines fed and clothed the ones they found. So when people have been fed this 247 stream of doomsday rehtoric, is it any wonder that they react this way?
Great point about Okinawa. The Japanese imperialists had already trained their okinawan "inferiors" through the absolute fear they cultivated through punishment to believe what they had to say at face value. My grandpa served on a picket destroyer protecting the larger Capital ships offshore, and encountered incoming kamikaze attacks as did many of the picket ships and some of the capital ships. And yeah our Marines could be extraordinarily cruel to the Japanese Army soldiers that they captured, but as I've read and also as my grandpa used to say the Marines took pity largely on those okinawans and had a pretty good understanding of the position they were in being squeezed between enemy forces. I've read a few good books on point. the Battle for Okinawa (Col. Hiromichi Yahara), The Twilight Warriors (Robert Gant).
I think it's fine for people to have a reasonable appreciation of actual risk, and in the day and age we live in there are doomsday risks that exist and do in fact threaten to do great damage including the end of all human life on Earth (e.g., fullscale global thermonuclear war). Hell, I used to have a bumper sticker that said one nuclear bomb can ruin your whole day.
I just want people to adapt to their doomsday theories to actual realities, such as the fact that there are so many artillery pieces ready to fire today that in Napoleon's day would have contained a large ball of iron but in today's world contain tactical nuclear warheads And the deep foxholes of 200 years ago that might have contained several attack infantry with their long rifles and bayonets and other nasties capable of inflicting fatalities on very small groups of people, now contain icbms with 100 megaton nuclear warheads. We do live in a different time, and the threats are measurably different. But the people responsible for controlling those threats are, guess what ... people. And it would be extraordinarily useful if people could but their native impishness on hold for just a few seconds, call a truce, and put their heads together and figure out how to reduce these risks.
it was a horrible battle. civilians were killed but efforts were made to save them by the US marines. Which is the opposite of what they expected.
Even Reagan, as crazy as they said he was, became a staunch opponent of the use of nuclear arms. Which, right there is how you know that if the US isn't the "good guys" we are at least the guys that stop to ask: "hey are we doing the right thing here?"
People criticize corporate America but corporations are always looking for new ideas and they don't care about what color skin you have so long as your idea is good. Do people still do horrible things to each other like lie cheat and steal? yes. humans be humans after all. but we have a robust judicial system that strives, not always successfully, to make every voice in a dispute heard. THAT'S what I would focus on for those people who are afraid. When harm is done, there is a remedy.
lol ok we don't actually do the arty-nukes, that was a one time experiment.
so, actually, that's already happened. many many times over. problem is politics. did you know that nuclear energy is the biggest reason for nuclear disarmament? atomic energy companies have been buying nuclear warheads to downgrade them into fuel rods for decades,.... and then the fuzzy wuzzy's come along and want all the nuclear energy plants turned off. People come on, make up your minds already.
I believe you are living in an alternate propaganda fueled reality when you say “all” or “every”. Seriously. Provide multiple links to multiple valid media outlets - because anyone with a lick of common sense knows a story like this would not have stayed constrained inside ANY legitimate media outlet’s political leanings…it would be everywhere! Or- STFU and quit smearing a vet!
I believe it might be a handful, at most, and they were probably paid…or disgruntled…and have read multiple first hand accounts from men in his unit who confirmed his character.
im not smearing a vet, I am holding him accountable. I feel like I know the answer already but what sources would you consider "valid" ?
you "believe" the soldiers who said the things you disagree with were paid off. where are your sources? WHY is it ok for you to smear those vets but not for me to call out Timmy boy on his exaggerations?
here you go and from a left leaning outlet: https://www.newsweek.com/veterans-who-served-tim-walz-national-guard-blast-him-impersonator-1947767
Note that he served 20 year the re enlisted for another four. right? he goes to school to become a command sgt maj. Then changes his mind and decides to go into politics. ok, no problem. if all of this was on the up and up, why lie about his rank? it's so insignificant, e8 vs e9 makes no difference. 20 years a reservist and never deployed, who cares, he still served. why lie?
it's a pattern of behavior that people who served under him noticed too.
lol..... did you even read this??? he took a vacation in Europe! he supported combat units as much as the USO volunteers do when they hang out cupcakes.
none of this would be a problem if Timmy just told the truth. No one who served would care. it's only a thing because Timmy chose to make it a big deal.
Just watch the video of him fumbling with a glock. he could have just admitted he's more of a sig guy or whatever. no big deal.
he's like Jimmy all over again "did you lose your balance and fall in the pond Mr. President?" "NO THERE WAS AN AMPHIBIOUS NINJA ATTACK BUNNY WITH RABIES TRYING TO KILL ME I THINK IT WAS SENT BY THE RUSSIANS!!!" "OK Mr President, whatever you say"
absolutely. and he did indeed serve 20 years, but he did not deploy, he did not reach the rank of command master sergeant, he could have just stuck to the facts and still be just as honorable. but he didn't.
Tim Walz said that too??? wow I didn't know. When they tried to jimmy up a video of Trump saying that I almost believed it so maybe I will give Tim the benefit of the doubt, he did serve after all, even if he did lie to all his troops and lie about his rank.
Which if you think about it, when you lie to the troops under your command you are implying that they are suckers and losers.
LOL Russia who can't even defeat their neighbor who they share a land boarder with or China that can't even put its Aircraft carrier to sea because it will sink. China that is collapsing from the massive amounts of corruption and tofu dregs..... good lord with friends like them who needs enemies!
He lied about his rank...never went to the Sergeant Major academy therefore was NOT a SGM. It is what it is...not sure why he felt the need to lie E8 is still pretty significant.
No he never attended or finished the academy which is required for promotion. He was selected but it's roughly a three year process contingent on successfully completing a year long academy then waiting on your "number" to pop (SGM numbers are congressionally mandated so folks have to retire etc) vs a civilian type job promotion. In fact, SGM or E- 9 is the longest wait bc of the academy and sequence numbers. It is what it is...find a new hero.
Ask any real Army SGM to confirm what I'm telling you or ask Waltz his academy year group...ohh wait He never went. He may have been "froked" depending on role but that's a temp process based on billet and you have to remain in good standing aka attending the academy and all other requirements for promotion. Lame thing to lie about even lamer to call me a lier and getting upset for stating the truth...vets know...unnecessary exaggeration to try to look more important.
The Guardian " Walz was promoted to command sergeant major of the battalion – an E-9 rank. Army regulation 600-8-19 requires soldiers who do not finish the sergeants major course to revert back to their prior rank. The first two phases of the course". It's like claiming you have a degree bc you got an acceptance letter to a university but didn't attend classes or graduate.
Plus he stretched a story claiming he deployed to OEF which I served in (Afghanistan) but he never set foot in the country going to Italy in support of ops. Ask any Combat vet how "hairy" Italy is vs Afghanistan counter terror ops and you'll be laughed at...another unnecessary lie. That's like me saying I was part of the op that got Bin Laden bc I was serving at the time and supporting the overall effort...complete bs.
Exactly..not a lot of soldiers/ service members make it that far. Unnecessary stretch. Vets are very supportive of each other no matter the service combat vs noncombat different job fields etc...but lying about services ..awards rank etc is Over the line to stay thread consistent...we still give a shit about the rules...lol
All good, retired SGM here who also got in a bit of trouble when young (PFC). I'm with you on S happens. Strikes and gutters ups and downs...
Just weird he stretched so many things...unnecessary the deployment thing too. Served in AF / Iraq and my primary voter issue was no more pointless foreign engagements for the complex. Sick of losing folks for what?
I can't think of a less desirable set of traits together in a human than the ones you're putting on display here. You can't be a condescending, rude, hateful, soft, whiney and dumb quitter. I'm embarrassed for you..jFC
Thank you for your service. I impregnated a Seabee who toured with the Marines in Iraq as a Lioness and raised a great kid with her. That's as close to combat as I've ever been but I have the most respect for the armed forces. I apologize for the disrespect we can disagree without the bullshit. I apologize.
Walz should resign. He is not representing all of Minnesota, spends our money without control, is unaccounted for significant fraud in the state and was a total embarrassment on national stage.
He'd probably make a better president than her but the window licker Republican voters that would most benefit from his policies consider him a commie and the establishment Democrat politicians probably would block his nomination if he got it because he's too far left(and he's not even close to Sanders level left)
It was actually Hillary's concession speech. They fluffed it up to get the wrinkles out, and Kamala took it for a spin. It's back under lock and key now, waiting for the 2028 democratic candidate to regurgitate.
Yeah, but he’s a pervert, Dude. No, he’s a sex offender. With a record. He served 6 months in Chino for inappropriate behavior with male students during his teaching years.
It turned out that complicity in another middle eastern genocide while supporting Ukrainian Azov battalion Nazis during an election year was a bad choice.
He may be on his period. Don’t laugh. There’s nothing funny about men being on their periods. Some men’s rooms don’t even have tampons in them. Again. Don’t laugh. It could be even more serious than that. He could have missed his period and he’s pregnant. There’s nothing funny about that.
Fucking power hungry mods that were tormented as children and now have some kind of power with this subreddit and lock the post and won't let anybody post so why in the fuck am I getting recommendations from this stupid sub in the first place?
Have you seen the threads on California hypothetically not paying federal taxes? Trump treated the California governor. He treated to cease funding to the state. Someone realized that California via W4 theoretically can cease paying federal taxes. California would benefit dollar wise as it gives money away to red states. Considering the state is one of the largest economies in the world the post was really interesting!
Yeah we should probably just keep things the way they are. We're definitely not an obese, overmedicated, disease ridden, toxified populace or anything.
I love it ! Neither one of them earns one vote to be the candidate ! No primary ! They were placed ! That is not the Democratic process ! And her whole campaign was attacking/ slandering Trump , zero policy !! That’s why they lost ! Want to be mad ? Be mad at your Democratic Party who failed you .
There was a part of me that wanted to see just how much of a shit show a second Trump term would be. Its not the good timeline but there should be some schadenfreude coming, this is with benefit of 11000 miles of distance though. What a country.
Why is he crying? Are you crying? There’s no crying in politics. There’s NO CRYING in POLITICS! (BTW-Had ‘20 not been $tolen, Trump would be leaving forever on Jan 20th). 😝😆😂
For the record, I didn’t bitch & whine in 20. Keep this message handy. This Spring we’re ALL gonna learn more about the scale of the f’kery associated with the ‘20 election.
Yeah, but he’s a pervert, Dude. He’s a sex offender. With a record. He served 6 months in Chino for inappropriate behavior with male students during his teaching years.
Well, that was in 1989, 35 years ago. She's 59 now....so she was in her mid-20s. He was just a teacher at the time, and she turned down his offer to move to the U.S. because she didn't want to give up her career to work in a bar in Nebraska.
Zer0daveexpl0it@reddit
I wouldn't go in there dude, he's very upset...
missingsynapse@reddit
Maybe he is upset that the Dems chose to go with the most idiotic rhetoric possible instead of listening to the people...
I will still vote for him any day. It's painful to see how out of touch the Dems have been since Obama left.
Odyssey113@reddit
Upvote for agreeing with you at how painfully out of touch the left has become.
Kodekima@reddit
No, the American left still very much has their finger on the pulse of the nation. The issue is that the Democrats and centrists refuse to listen to the left for fear of being seen as "too radical."
That's how we've ended up with a second DJT presidency. The Democrats didn't listen to the left, again, and now they want to act all surprised Pikachu.
As Bernie said, the Democrats abandoned the working class, so it should come as no surprise that the working class abandoned the Democrats in the polls.
fireballer145@reddit
Maybe some self awareness would serve you well. The American populous just gave the left its come uppance. The largest popular vote win by a Republican since Reagan. But you do you and we will have 4 years of DJT and 8 years of Vance.
Kodekima@reddit
Liberals and Democrats are not the American left. They are just barely right of the center, nowhere close to being actual left.
fireballer145@reddit

Kodekima@reddit
Leftist politics haven't even been discussed in this country. The identity politics and all that? Yeah, it's all a smokescreen deployed by the Democrats to pander to their audience so they don't have to make any actual policy or contributions whatsoever to furthering leftism.
Less_Percentage_3145@reddit
Bernie's statement was spot on...if you took a time traveler from 1990 to 2024 and told them the Ds were now for pointless wars, endorsed by the Cheney's and beholden to the elite over working class their minds would be blown
No-Tooth6698@reddit
The DNC is not left wing.
Less_Percentage_3145@reddit
They'll have to move center. Bill Clinton would be considered right wing now. Time to assess how far the shift has moved.... or not and double down...and lose in 28
UnmeiX@reddit
No, they need to pretend to move center, run a center-left candidate and then push through as much progressive legislation as possible, so that the country can actually benefit.
More Reaganomics is not going to save this country. We need to put wealth back in the hands of the people. We need unions back. We need a labor movement in this country again.
Moving to the right is not going to do that.
Solitaire_87@reddit
What idiotic rhetoric? I'd really like to know
Protecting women's and LGBTQ rights?
Anti price gouging legislation?
Money for first time home buyers and money towards opening a business?
carpedrinkum@reddit
For of all you had a terrible candidate who nothing new to add. She didn’t have ideas that she was fighting for. She wasn’t a Bernie Sanders who could speak for hours on his beliefs and take follow-up and more follow up questions. The price gouging doesn’t exist and never polled well. (You don’t think that Merrick Garland would have the justice department investigate it). She was weak. She ran on “I’m not Trump.” That was good for about 47% of the electorate but not a winning strategy.
Solitaire_87@reddit
There is price gouging 🙄
Companies are making record profits while saying of no we're only raising prices to keep up with inflation
carpedrinkum@reddit
That’s not price gouging.
bulletbassman@reddit
Solitaire_87@reddit
I know his cult wouldn't hear about it but it's been all over independent news media/political content creators(David Pakman, Farron Balanced, Brian Tyler Cohen, Medias Touch,)
missingsynapse@reddit
Appreciate your question and that you were not an ass when asking (jaded by reddit here).
I really would like to answer with nuance but this site has exhausted me and I cant right now.
All Ill say is that the leaders of the Dems have time and time again over the last 8 years shown they think they know everything when in fact they know nothing.
No candidate since Obama has been picked via primary and instead the "leaders" of the party have picked and had their asses handed to them.
Theres much more but Im tired of adding facts in good faith on this site. Good faith discussion is dead.
Wooden-Most7403@reddit
What rhetoric? Do you mean lying about the economy, about oil production, about children going to school and getting sex changes, about immigrants eating pets (or calling said immigrants 'illegal" when they are here legally), about crime....
istheflesh@reddit
Out of honest curiosity. What was the ridiculous rhetoric, and what do you feel they did not listen to from the people? I've been in the echo chamber for quite some time. Trump winning the popular vote pulled me out of it. Genualy interested to hear more.
missingsynapse@reddit
Ita been going on since 2016.
They are out of touch and are driving their bus off the cliff time and time again.
istheflesh@reddit

Trump tells America to be garbage.

it takes real balls to abandon your soldiers to deploy without you and then lie about it, lol.
D-Flo1@reddit
RepresentativeCan479@reddit
huh..... maybe the guy who took over, the guy who just got back from a deployment and was hoping to spend time with his family but got only a few short weeks to get ready for another deployment, the REAL command sgt maj, he must have had TBI and forgot Tim told him anything at all when he told reporters he was totally blindsided and got no help from Tim.
Maybe all of Tim's soldiers had TBI too when they also went on record saying Timmy lied to them promising to stay with them and then disappearing as they deployed.
I guess Timmy's chain of command ALSO has amnesia because they can't find any record of him going through any of the proper channels.....
D-Flo1@reddit
Maybe you lied when you said "all" of Coach Walz' soldiers were paid to lie on record. Maybe just some of them lied about Coach. Maybe just some of them were paid enormous sums by the Musk $multibillion funded "smear the enemy by any means true or false" campaign? Maybe. How about 'actually'? Sounds more reasonable. Hell, that sounds like basic common sense, like any libertarian might proudly say.
RepresentativeCan479@reddit
who say anything about getting paid?? this is what happens to you types when you can't face reality, you start layering on the conspiracies until the world makes sense to you again.
D-Flo1@reddit
Nifty little whataboutism. No one buys it. It's you who is committed to spreading conspiracy stuff. 99% of his soldiers reported total satisfaction with Walz, and but when a handful of born complainers get convinced by Trump campaign staffers to get revenge on Walz for perceived slights or actual dressing downs they might have received from Walz during their time in service by misrepresenting their feelings about Walz for compensation, misdirected vengeance, and political gain. The "Reality" you think I can't handle is Your conspiracy theory.
RepresentativeCan479@reddit
ummm you are the one who did the "what about Russia paid people bots evil steal election....."
dude, there is no conspiracy, it's all in the public records.
as for his soldiers, he must have dressed each and every one of them down for all of them to say Timmy is a liar
D-Flo1@reddit
RepresentativeCan479@reddit
I call him Timmy because I can and I think it fits him.
"made the ultimate sacrifice"......? huh? did he die??? Running for public office and a six figure salary.... HUGE sacrifice yeah anyone that got blown up in combat should sit down and shut up when Timmy talks. lol
and I'm the childish one sheesh
What rights and privileges exactly?? why don't you name a few, I'm curious.
why does an "all around great guy" need to lie about his deployments and his rank? I'm curious.
It was Timmy who said that civilians should not have guns btw. Just FYI.
D-Flo1@reddit
I call bs on all your claims. Especially the guns one. Walz was one of this nation's most committed protectors of the 2d Amendment since Madison wrote the damn amendment into the Bill of rights. All he stopped was a few fully automatic machine guns and suitcase nukes that you gun nuts want everyone, including 4 year olds to own and detonate. Sit down and STFU.
RepresentativeCan479@reddit
He speaks out of both sides of his mouth. You at just another drama queen trying to gin up anything controversial... "suitcase nukes" ... really?
I like the way you seem to hate the 1st amendment as much as you seen to hate the 2nd. How typical.
Timmy is a liar and a clown.
D-Flo1@reddit
RepresentativeCan479@reddit
oh no Yu-Gi-Oh!! a trap card??? lol really? and what claim did I make that compares to suitcase nukes?
I see i will have to hold your hand:
1) the first amendment is an absolute statement of right. you can't abuse it by exercising it. the first amendment is no more lessened by you, nor I, nor a flat earther expressing our individual opinions.
2) when you caveat and put conditions on your statements "according to ...." then you are double speaking. it's a cheap ploy to make you seem more rational and reasonable but you used it poorly. Here I can do it too "Candidate XYZ is fighting for the right of women as originally conceived by John Norman" see? makes perfect sense right?
D-Flo1@reddit
Your turn.
RepresentativeCan479@reddit
D-Flo1@reddit
RepresentativeCan479@reddit
it's not that you personally have violated my first amendment rights. it was the implication in your words that is a situational right, or a conditional one. I believe in freedom of speech so even though I am not part of the government i still encourage everyone to exercise it as much as possible.
I haven't seen that interview yet I'm still looking it up but haven't found that quote. "real power is fear" is a very old concept and one that has been written about since at least Machiavelli. It is very unfortunate but there is power in fear. that's not what I'm talking about I'm referring to the difference between: "if we don't elect XYZ the world will burn!!!!" vs "if we elect XYZ we can implement a new policy and start a new program that will do the following to help the community and here is how we will audit it......"
D-Flo1@reddit
RepresentativeCan479@reddit
D-Flo1@reddit
RepresentativeCan479@reddit
it was a horrible battle. civilians were killed but efforts were made to save them by the US marines.
People come on, make up your minds already.
nate2337@reddit
I believe you are living in an alternate propaganda fueled reality when you say “all” or “every”. Seriously. Provide multiple links to multiple valid media outlets - because anyone with a lick of common sense knows a story like this would not have stayed constrained inside ANY legitimate media outlet’s political leanings…it would be everywhere! Or- STFU and quit smearing a vet!
I believe it might be a handful, at most, and they were probably paid…or disgruntled…and have read multiple first hand accounts from men in his unit who confirmed his character.
RepresentativeCan479@reddit
im not smearing a vet, I am holding him accountable. I feel like I know the answer already but what sources would you consider "valid" ?
you "believe" the soldiers who said the things you disagree with were paid off. where are your sources? WHY is it ok for you to smear those vets but not for me to call out Timmy boy on his exaggerations?
smells like hypocrisy to me.
nate2337@reddit
Every single soldier and officer I saw interviewed said good things about him - please post links to your source or go away
RepresentativeCan479@reddit
here you go and from a left leaning outlet: https://www.newsweek.com/veterans-who-served-tim-walz-national-guard-blast-him-impersonator-1947767
20 years a reservist and never deployed, who cares, he still served. why lie?
it's a pattern of behavior that people who served under him noticed too.
nate2337@reddit
And are you aware they were paid to say what they said? https://www.factcheck.org/2024/08/attacks-on-walzs-military-record/
RepresentativeCan479@reddit
lol..... did you even read this??? he took a vacation in Europe! he supported combat units as much as the USO volunteers do when they hang out cupcakes.
none of this would be a problem if Timmy just told the truth.
Wooden-Most7403@reddit
Good thing that didnt happen. People are allowed to retire from the military you know.
RepresentativeCan479@reddit
absolutely. and he did indeed serve 20 years, but he did not deploy, he did not reach the rank of command master sergeant, he could have just stuck to the facts and still be just as honorable. but he didn't.
Intelligent_Sort_852@reddit
It takes the opposite of balls to defer yourself from the Vietnam War 5 times, then insult all veterans by calling them "Suckers and losers."
RepresentativeCan479@reddit
Tim Walz said that too??? wow I didn't know. When they tried to jimmy up a video of Trump saying that I almost believed it so maybe I will give Tim the benefit of the doubt, he did serve after all, even if he did lie to all his troops and lie about his rank.
Which if you think about it, when you lie to the troops under your command you are implying that they are suckers and losers.
Intelligent_Sort_852@reddit
Hey, at least he served. Let me guess. Trump is going to reduce the size of the military, then get us stuck in a war with Iran.
RepresentativeCan479@reddit
it would be a pretty short war

do strong men also lie about their service?
david8601@reddit
No.
Less_Percentage_3145@reddit
He lied about his rank...never went to the Sergeant Major academy therefore was NOT a SGM. It is what it is...not sure why he felt the need to lie E8 is still pretty significant.
Wooden-Most7403@reddit
Why are you lying? He WAS a Sargeant Major he just didn't have enough time to RETIRE as a Sargeant Major.
Less_Percentage_3145@reddit
No he never attended or finished the academy which is required for promotion. He was selected but it's roughly a three year process contingent on successfully completing a year long academy then waiting on your "number" to pop (SGM numbers are congressionally mandated so folks have to retire etc) vs a civilian type job promotion. In fact, SGM or E- 9 is the longest wait bc of the academy and sequence numbers. It is what it is...find a new hero.
Wooden-Most7403@reddit
You worship Trump, we get it. The fact is that Walz WAS promoted to SGM. Go pray to your God Trump
Less_Percentage_3145@reddit
You hate facts...btw I wrote in Karl Hungus...
Less_Percentage_3145@reddit
Ask any real Army SGM to confirm what I'm telling you or ask Waltz his academy year group...ohh wait He never went. He may have been "froked" depending on role but that's a temp process based on billet and you have to remain in good standing aka attending the academy and all other requirements for promotion. Lame thing to lie about even lamer to call me a lier and getting upset for stating the truth...vets know...unnecessary exaggeration to try to look more important.
Less_Percentage_3145@reddit
RepresentativeCan479@reddit
that's what I was thinking.... it really is an accomplishment. still he needed to lie about it
Less_Percentage_3145@reddit
Exactly..not a lot of soldiers/ service members make it that far. Unnecessary stretch. Vets are very supportive of each other no matter the service combat vs noncombat different job fields etc...but lying about services ..awards rank etc is Over the line to stay thread consistent...we still give a shit about the rules...lol
RepresentativeCan479@reddit
agreed
david8601@reddit
I was a corporal and was busted down to pfc. shit happens, you accept it and you move on. I couldn't ever imagine lying about it.

Just weird he stretched so many things...unnecessary the deployment thing too. Served in AF / Iraq and my primary voter issue was no more pointless foreign engagements for the complex. Sick of losing folks for what?

Yea, because there is nothing wrong with being gay. So he was insinuating that there was something bad about it.
