5700X3D vs 9800X3D

Can't make up my mind.
Have a current AM4 build, with a ryzen 5 3600, 16gb ram, rxt3080. Am playing at 1440p native.
Should I get the 5700X3D and an additional 16 GB of RAM and be done with it for the next two years?
OR should I pay more and get a completely new AM5 build with a 9800X3D and 32 GB RAM?
Am playing games like Grim dawn ( it stutters, why?), half life alyx with quest 3s, flight simulator, the upcoming stalker 2, cyberpunk 2077. I play at min. 60fps and prioritize highgraphics.
It would be nice to not upgrade again for several years. My current CPU was bought 4 years ago.
The only other upgrades I would get in the near future are a 32'' OLED screen, perhaps switching to 4K gaming, and potentially an RTX 5070/5080.
Should I cheap out and make the easy upgrade, or should I get the AM5 upgrade?

This is really a AM5 vs AM5 question. And 9800x3d is just the perfect time to dive into AM5 while it's still 'young'.
Get it and don't look back and enjoy being at the top and relatng to all the YouTube benchmarks

I've been exclusively gaming on LG 4K OLEDs for the last 5 years and I've never ever experienced any burn ins.

i had that same crossraods myself 4 months ago...if the money is noo issue whatsoever then yea go top shelf..if money doesn't grow on trees for you then go with the 5700x3d..and get a decent graphic card like I did..and I doubt you really can notice the difference except in your wallet as I play at 4k ulra most games and if I tone down to 1440 then I'm blasting 120+fps all the time and that's with no fsr or dls . Now with the money you save get a 32 4k 240 htz oled.....that makes a difference..and you wont go back and you will be happy as a pig in sh.....well...you know!

like others have said. 5700x3d is good enough for a decent while.

if you have the money go for the AM5 Platform.
From my perspective, I would rather max out the build for AM4, and get the 5700x3d which performs well with the RTX 3080 for 1440p it is still a doable platform, in this scenario, It is way better if you invest in the GPU or Monitor for this. wait it out until the next platform release which is AM6. it's a no-brainer to spend plenty of money on a new build.
based on the reviews on 1440p and 4k it's not a big gap sometimes on par performance. unless gaming on 1080p going for 9800x3d is a big upgrade. still, it all comes down to your decision.

5700X3D + RAM maybe $250, good for 2-3 years.
9800X3D + Mobo + Ram maybe $750, good for 6 years.
You might not notice a major average FPS difference based on your graphics settings, but you'll likely notice the 5700X3D 1% low stutters are a bit more egregious.
For example Dragon's Dogma 2 benchmark (from Gamersnexus):
* 5700X3D 1% low: 54FPS
* 9800X3D 1% low: 68.9FPS
If based on your graphics settings you're targeting 60FPS that 5700X3D may average 60FPS, but stutters to 54FPS occasionally where a 9800X3D powers through that stutter and you'd never notice any frame drops.

the 5700x3d will probably last you until am6 comes out or am5 is doet cheap. Thats what im gonna do.
dem_titties_too_big@reddit
You say next two years? I'd say you're absolutely fine with a 5700X3D then, it will probably be good enough for more than two years easily.
But if you feel like you want to upgrade to AM5 today and you're not on budget then 9800X3D is a nobrainer.
Grena567@reddit
Get the 5700x3d and an additional 16gb of ram, stutters will be gone. Sell old cpu to get a bit of the cost back. It wont cost you much at all and is an easy drop in upgrade
rocklatecake@reddit
You won't notice the difference between a 5700X3D and 9800X3D with a 3080 at 1440p. Just stay on AM4 for now, the 5700X3D is a great CPU and will easily last you until AM6 releases.
Grim Dawn does not do well with SMT. Changing affinity for it to only use physical cores plus setting priority to 'realtime' has almost entirely eliminated stutters for me with a 7800X3D. Fps stay at my cap of 150 for the most part, only drops happen when activating totems for example. The 11400F (comparable to your 3600) I had before couldn't even run at a stable 60 fps so the v-cache does some heavy lifting here. The 5700X3D would be a total gamechanger for you in GD.
kapybarah@reddit
I would do neither right now. 3600 will still get you 60fps most of the time and won't bottleneck the 3080 too badly at 1440p. And for when it does, just use dldsr to render at a higher resolution so the 3080 isn't really sitting idle.
Upgrade everything together with 50 series
RedLimes@reddit
I would get a 5700X3D and save the difference for a better GPU and monitor but it's your show brother. Do you want good, or do you want the best? I'm okay with paying for good
micaelmiks@reddit
Only if you have a 4090 go with 9800x3d. They will be no gains with that graphics card lol
SirThunderDump@reddit
If your target really is max graphics at 1440p and not high framerates, the 5700X3D is probably fine. It’ll at least cover you for the next two years.
Whether you jump to AM5 depends on whether you have the money and would really like to spend it for that step up, given your use case.
Greennit0@reddit
Well if you can get the 9800X3D obviously, if you don't have that kind of money, the 5700X3D will also be great for quite a while.
pickletype@reddit
AM5 upgrade would set you up for another 4 years probably, if you have the budget.
