We motor sailed from Dun Laoghaire to Pwllheli on Thursday. 14 hours, 7 of which was in thick fog in the Irish Sea. As we approached Bardsey Sound we left the fog behind and did the last last 6 hours in glorious sun.
The fog got down to about 50 metres visibility at times, though being flat calm made it a lot more tolerable. A mix of slight worry that we might encounter another boat we couldn't see (we're running an AIS transponder, radar and using a fog horn) and the almost unreal experience of being in the middle of a small bubble of reality where the sea and the sky became one was pretty amazing.
