ULPT: I'm leaving the country and NEVER coming back. What is the point of paying any of my debt?

Seriously. My credit score will be useless where I'm going. What is the point? Obviously I don't want to hear about how wrong it would be. I no longer care.
CanIDroneStrikePutin@reddit
had a friend do this with pay day loans, took about 15 of them and fuucked them all off đđ

Run it right up. Get as many loans as you can and shop then money off to a bank account abroad, then get as many credits cards as you can and max them the fuck out, then try for as many high interest car loans and sell the fucking cars.
Go for it bro. Do it right and do it well.

yodel_goat@reddit
This does have the possibility of changing it from a civil to criminal matter. If you make a choice not to pay a debt incurred, thatâs a civil matter. If you take out a debt with the intent to never pay, itâs criminal. So make sure you really donât come back !

Doubt you could flee but chances are all your shit has been screenshotted and archived anyway.
ashlee837@reddit
Protip: CC companies will start throttling your credit way before you get to the upper limits. They did it to me. CC Limits are much lower than they appear, because it entices you to spend. Creditors really don't want all that risk.
BradleyBowels@reddit
Oh yeah for got about that. Yeah, you go to wild they will limit to you to like 300 bucks.
PukaBazooka@reddit (OP)
Half the comments are like fuck yeah! and the other half is don't do it! I'm trying to see what the repercussions are with this post. I haven't decided on whether or not to do it. I am, however, leaving this bullshit country regardless.
BradleyBowels@reddit
well first thing is think about what you are saying. You literally said you don't care about racking up debt and running away from it. You are admitting to fraud.
If you do do it what will happen is the Banks/Institutions you owe money too will sue you. If you then do not reply then anything you have Bank accounts, assets, anything of that nature will be garnished. So you could never have a US based account or any traces too it or work a remote job for a US based company. You would have literally start fresh.
You will build credit there but some lenders may look at your US credit score and be hesitant to lend you anything large. You will also need to have proof of income or assets as well.
PukaBazooka@reddit (OP)
The President of the United States is convicted of 34 counts of felony fraud. I don't give one single fuck about this country or its laws. They are complete bullshit.

Rocket_Monkey_302@reddit
Fraud
Taking out a loan with the intention to rip off the brank is fraud, doing it a lot (or right before leaving the country), and telling people what you're doing could prove your intention.
I'm sure lots of people get away with fraud of this sort, but it indeed crosses the line from just unethical and into criminal.
steel02001@reddit
You could get around this by making an occasional payment or talking to them about loan restructuring. But honestly this only matters if you come back, they wonât extradite over a property crime. Your bill would have to be huge for them to care.
Also, itâs super easy to prove if the person is overseas which pauses the statute (statue if youâre Kramer) of limitations
ashlee837@reddit
Courts aren't stupid. But OP is for having posted his intention.
nova8273@reddit
I thought we just pitched âethicsâ out the window with yesterdayâs events? Along with the Constitution and moral fortitude of any sort.
Extension_Meeting_28@reddit
The crime isnât failing to pay your debt. The crime would be incurring the debt knowing that youâre going to flee and never pay it back. If you lie in order to induce someone to give you a benefit, and they give you that benefit based on your intentional misrepresentation, that is fraud.
Creditors would be extending you credit based on your (intentionally false) promise to pay it back.
Am I saying youâre going to immediately get arrested and imprisoned? No. But there is a difference.
PukaBazooka@reddit (OP)
I'm not incurring new debt.

Realityvoidx@reddit
Not true, some dealerships donât care. Like carmax.
SgtHondo@reddit
What? Thereâs no fucking way car max or any dealer would buy the car without access to the title⌠they would just pay off your loan directly in exchange for the title but then you donât get any of the money so itâs pointless.
spamjunk150@reddit
In Michigan you keep the title. Dealer can only mark there is a lien on the car, they cannot hold it.

If it's because of the election, the same happened with us with Brexit. I also decided to GTFO and I did. I have never returned.
My life is absolutely fucking fantastic now. When you're an expat, you aren't targeted for propaganda by your country or the country you're in. A whole swathe of your life your can reclaim that you lost to media stress. That's an upside I didn't expect and it's a game changer.
Plus I chose a cheaper, warmer place and changed careers, too.

Being surrounded by propaganda and it being all anyone talks about (thanks mainstream media) is a bit different to turning the TV off.
Turning off my TV didnât stop people talking to me about brexit in person.
TheMeltingSnowman72@reddit

Witty_Candle_3448@reddit
Choose your debt carefully. Visa, Discover, Bank of America, etc. are all worldwide.
shivav2@reddit
Your debt wouldnât be with visa though itâs with whoever supplies the Visa card
Hulk_Crowgan@reddit
Just for folks thinking they can do this too - it is incredibly difficult to obtain foreign citizenship. It is expensive, and you typically need to show that you will contribute to that countryâs economy. Getting a tourist visa is one thing (still expensive) but they are TEMPORARY.
Donât start racking up debt thinking you can just bounce to another country because unless you are affluent or have familial ties it probably wonât work.
Sicon614@reddit
If your credit is great, go to Vegas casinos, put in credit applications. They will issue $25000 chits that you cash in at the tables. Hand the chips off in the bathroom to your friend and giddy up. Then go to the banks and get debt consolidation loans. Any card credit, buy gold or platinum coins. Read how professional bankruptors do their thing if you really can yank and bank.
Broad_Talk_2179@reddit
The debt consolidation loans will sometimes require a check be made out to the debtor, may not be beneficial in this scenario.
Sicon614@reddit
Most debt consolidation loans in this situation should be card based. From card to gold & silver. The incredible thing about a casino listed as a Payee on a check is that many casinos will establish an account (like a bank) that you can actually deposit that check in and give you access to those funds. Absolutely highlights that casinos DGAF- it's all about getting you to a table. Also American Travelers checks get overlooked & they shouldn't because they can be issued in $25k amounts, issued at airport ATMs and cashed anywhere AMEX has an office.
N0K1K0@reddit
mm looks like there is an extradition treaty but you should need to check out which crimes are considered in this https://www.congress.gov/congressional-report/104th-congress/executive-report/27/1
ShakeIntelligent7810@reddit
Literally, cut and run. We just voted to reward "fuck you, got mine" with the highest office in the land. Your final act here will embody the American spirit.
cashfile@reddit
So you would need to be careful of two things, 1) if you leave with your current debt there is no issue and nothing will happen as it purely a civil matter, 2) if you take out additional loans, credit cards, etc with the intent of not paying it back and fleeing the country it then elevates to fraud which is a criminal matter. You can actually be extradited from a country for fraud but it exceedingly rare, you would need to look into the exact extradition treaty of the country you are moving to ensure it doesn't allow for extradition for fraud (most only extradition for serious violent or drug related crimes). Lastly, some countries have international debt collection arrangement with the US meaning if you are in their country the US can still go after you for the debt. So ensure whatever country you don't go to. Overall, the risk is very low as there have only been a few cases of being extradited for this, and completely non existent if you just leave with your current debts.
To make it harder for a fraud case, you could take out loans, etc and still live in the US for another 6 - 12 month using additional loans and credit cards to pay the minimum monthly payments off before leaving. It would make it hard to prove you took out loans/credit with the intent to not pay it back.
PukaBazooka@reddit (OP)
No I wasn't planning on ringing up additional debt. Not until that one guy mentioned it :).Â
cashfile@reddit
Yeah if you don't take out any additional debt, and if you don't have any student loan you could come back to US after 10 years with no issues civil. Only debt that would stick around is student loans, child support, alimony. Though your credit score would be fucked.
PukaBazooka@reddit (OP)
I have no desire to ever come back here.
cashfile@reddit
Firstly, from the way you talk are you probably young. So you have no idea what will happen in the future, or even if the country you plan to move to. If you have family (parent or siblings) in the US they get may sick and old and you may decide to return. So I wouldn't go into with a finality mindset. Instead go into more of you want the explore what the rest of the world has to offer mindset. Secondly, I'm assuming the timing of this comment has to due to elections and hopefully in 10-15 the US will be in a better place that may impact your decision to return but who knows.
ShakeIntelligent7810@reddit

PukaBazooka@reddit (OP)

discjunky316@reddit
Going to a different country doesnât mean they canât charge you with theft or go after you in that country. We live in a global world
PukaBazooka@reddit (OP)
So if you just stop paying your credit card right now they can charge you with theft? Sounds fishy and seems like a lot more people would be in jail in this country.
Extension_Meeting_28@reddit
If they can prove you used their funds while knowing that you werenât going to pay it back, then technically you could be committing a crime. Itâs incredibly difficult to prove intent though, and the amounts involved usually wouldnât be worth it. Lol most people donât post in advance about incurring enough debt to make it worth someoneâs while to pursue.
NuclearBrotatoMan@reddit
If you are a dumbass that makes a bunch of "hmmm good suggestion" comment replies to people suggesting fraud, I'd imagine that would make intent easier to prove.
PukaBazooka@reddit (OP)
I don't have that much debt really. I just don't see the point of paying any of it.
discjunky316@reddit
No first they would garnish your wages, put a lean on your property, send you to collections, black list you with other banks so you can get any credit cards or loans. Banks have a lot of ways of making your life difficult. Itâs just that most of the time itâs not worth their time. If you have say $10,000 in debt it will probably just go to a collection agency that will hound you for the money. If itâs more like a home loan or $100,000 in student loans they may get more aggressive. Changing countries (unless you are going to disappear into a third world country and become a ghost) doesnât change anything.
DanGleeballs@reddit
What country are you leaving?
TheArchitect_7@reddit
Where are you planning to go?
Nheea@reddit
If they want a Hungarian citizenship, probably Hungary. But Transylvania is in Romania now, so I'm confused how that might work.
That being said, Romania, especially Transylvania, is a really good place to start anew in Europe. It's not as expensive as the most western countries and it's pretty damn progressive and beautiful.
Signed, Romanian who also plans to move to Transylvania from Bucharest.
OsloProject@reddit
Well Transylvania was originally part of Hungary so if heâs descended from there heâs probably of Hungarian descent meaning heâs eligible for Hungarian citizenship, which means he can live pretty much anywhere in Europe. The big thing is, can he pass the Hungarian language requirement? Probably not

Done. I don't like coconut, but I'll make an exception for you. I am going to post to show these fucking mouthpieces that not everyone is full of shit, and to show others thinking about doing the same - it can be done.
justfordrunks@reddit
The beauty about sippin a drink out of a coconut is you only get a small coconut taste if you hollow it out properly.
Alternatively, grab yourself a pineapple, cut off the top, and hollow it out with one of these bad boys. Boom, you got yourself a giant pineapple cup that can hold a hefty amount of beverage. I recommend a mojito with extra mint. Or if you wanna get fancy, make yourself some rosemary infused vodka and pour some in there with fresh lime juice, a little extra pineapple juice, a little honey, a splash of garnish with a lime skin twist and a few sprigs of rosemary.
Not telling you how to drink on a beach like you just got away with a big heist, but that's how I'd do it đ.

Prior-Paint-7842@reddit
As a Hungarian, I am not sure if coming here is a good idea, the country is in a really sucking bad shape, rest of the eu seems fine.
PukaBazooka@reddit (OP)
No I would be passing through if anything. Orban is one of Trump's idols and it's what will happen here. Thanks no thanks.
cheekychestercopper@reddit
$20 says OP never does it, or even comes close to ever actually doing it
ProudDoubtStout@reddit
Just stay in your shithole, EU doesn't need people who can't even pay back debt
PukaBazooka@reddit (OP)
I can pay it, thank you very much. I was asking what was the point of paying it. Now I am deciding whether or not to deliver a final fuck you to this country on my way out. These are not the same thing.
averysadlawyer@reddit
These people responding to you are dangerously uninformed. If you run up significant debt, especially if any debt is owed to the US government (such as taxes, student loans etc) Hungary will almost certainly recognize the inevitable judgement and permit the US based debt holders to seize your accounts and place liens on any property you hold.
PukaBazooka@reddit (OP)
What is significant? And what if I hold no possessions worth seizing? I can easily go somewhere besides the EU then if I really want to dodge it, I suppose.
averysadlawyer@reddit
You'd need to consult with a local attorney. It comes down to practicality, if it's financially worth collecting than they will. Almost every country is going to either have a treaty or a domestic statute governing enforcement of US judgements domestically. Generally speaking, the process is slow but not particularly difficult. The further 'west' you go the quicker and easier they'll be able to reach your assets.
PukaBazooka@reddit (OP)
I just want to know the benefit of paying them. That's what no one will answer. What's in it for me? My credit score stays good, so what? Seems like I'm throwing money away that in the end does not benefit me.
averysadlawyer@reddit
I don't understand why you think you have a choice. You can either pay willingly, or they will hire professional collection firms (for private debt) to extract that value + additional fees from you while making it exceedingly difficult to actually have any sort of life. Depending on the local laws, this can involve monitoring, freezing and seizing your bank accounts, including new ones you open overseas, contacting any future employers and garnishing your wages, placing judicial liens against your real or personal property and selling it at extremely low rates, pushing you into ever more desperate situations until you comply.
In the case of government held debt, it can get much, much nastier and move to the level of felony charges + extradition -> prison..
PukaBazooka@reddit (OP)
Okay I'm listening. But also what I hear is if I disappear into the jungle of Thailand, they will never find me to do any of that. You pragmatic assholes have burst my bubble lol.
averysadlawyer@reddit
Well funnily enough Thailand is one of the places where it's borderline impossible to enforce, so you can go there lol.
PurpleLegoBrick@reddit
Do people think you can just get any citizenship and itâs an easy process? European countries and places like South Korea and Japan have some of the hardest countries to get citizenship to. The only way to make it easier is if you can 1) speak the language and 2) have any valuable skills or education. Based on OPs post Iâm guessing they have neither of those.
PukaBazooka@reddit (OP)
Yeah no country is interested in cybersecurity. Apparently you also missed the fucking part where I get citizenship through ancestry. Or that I can get digital nomad visas. And I speak Spanish and French. Now fuck right off.
PurpleLegoBrick@reddit
lol good luck with that, you sound completely stable.
Also pretty sure you need to speak Hungarian to claim ancestry and also have a family member confirm it.
And what are you going to do for work? Cybersecurity? Unless youâre at the top of your career with multiple advance certifications itâs going to be very difficult to find a job there, itâs hard enough to find one here.
You do you though, Iâd at least spend more than five minutes of research before you start running up credit cards and loans.

Mrsekretx@reddit
When did your family leave Hungary? If youâre not first or second generation there is a language requirement. It takes about a year once your app is submitted. I would get your paperwork in order and start the process before you tank your credit
PukaBazooka@reddit (OP)
TheDistantEnd@reddit
Until your passport expires.
PukaBazooka@reddit (OP)
Hmmmm nice call. Blatant oversight. I should have something else set up by then. Can you renew before it expires? I'll do it tomorrow.
TheDistantEnd@reddit
Some countries might require you be there a while before you can apply for residency, and that process will include background checks and it'll come to light that you're basically a debtor/fugitive. Most will ask you to leave in that circumstance.
I understand the election results are a very raw and visceral thing right now. If you're a vulnerable person who's likely to be persecuted or face discrimination under the incoming regime, the BETTER thing to do would be to try and pay off your debt (or at least pay it down to show an immigration officer its managed and you can deal with it) and otherwise get your affairs in order so you can travel more easily rather than having to watch out for being deported or jailed the rest of your life.
PukaBazooka@reddit (OP)
I can pay it, but I don't care to. It's about fuck this country and all its fake laws designed to keep the rich in power and the rest of us scraping by. I see now there is no good or evil. Right or wrong. There is only power, and the exercising of it. It's time the little people started fighting back against these corrupt motherfuckers.
TheDistantEnd@reddit
This is one of those situations where you're sort of doing yourself more harm than the system. Honestly I'd say it's not worth it to stiff your CC lender for a few grand in the long run, even if you don't (presently) intend to come back.
You could get away with it, or it could ruin your attempt to build a new life abroad.
PukaBazooka@reddit (OP)
I know you are the voice of reason, and I hear it. I'm just exploring this. I also ran across a post about bankruptcy. What if I do that instead? If it just hammers my credit, so what?
PukaBazooka@reddit (OP)
Okay. Not paying your credit card is not a crime. Revoked for what?
Mrsekretx@reddit
1912 for me. Iâve got all the documents I need but havenât bothered to learn the language. Iâve got a year left in school and Iâm headed to Ireland for grad school and hopefully I will never have to come back

run up a heap of debt. like apply for a home loan sort of level. 250k plus.
buy a lump of gold bullion keep the receipt and fly out of the country w it in your carryon and sell it in your new country.
TheDistantEnd@reddit
If you have $10k in "financial instruments" (Cash, gold, other valuable, easily portable type things like that) you have to declare it and explain why you're traveling with it, or risk forfeiture and being denied traveling when customs sees you're leaving the country in a big hurry with a sack of cash or gold bricks.
This isn't just unethical advice, but bad advice.

Banks don't just give you cash when you get a loan. They make sure you're buying an actual house and transfer the money to an escrow account via a title company, then to the seller.
bluecornholio@reddit
Big nope. Cashout refinance loans are that exact thing. You borrow against the equity, you get liquid funds after closing.
TheS4ndm4n@reddit
Then you must have equity.
You can't sell the equity without paying off the loan. And if you don't pay the loan, the lender is just going to sell the equity for you.

TheDistantEnd@reddit
If you do leave and don't plan to come back, you'll have to normalize your situation wherever you end up. Most developed countries won't let you stay if you're in massive debt, deemed to be unable to support yourself, etc.
It will keep coming back to haunt you if you try to settle anywhere eventually.
Zaxas@reddit
Have you seen this happen before? If this is proven to be true this should be at the top of the thread.
How do these countries have access to debt information, is there some international database?
TheDistantEnd@reddit
You'll eventually have to provide it.
Let's say you go to Canada as a US citizen. You'll be allowed to stay a certain amount of time as a visitor, before you have to either leave the country or normalize your situation there by applying for residency and eventually, citizenship. But, Canada doesn't want just anybody showing up to come and be a burden to the state. As part of your application, you have to demonstrate that you're financially solvent and capable of making a living etc, and they'll run background checks and investigate you to see if you have any outstanding issues.
If you're massively in debt due to intentionally floating credit prior to fleeing your former country, it's probably going to come up as an issue, if not a criminal one by then. At that point, Canada (or another would-be host country) will probably deny your application, and you'd have to exit the country and go home or someplace else.
Obviously there are countries that probably won't care if you're a debtor on the run, but they might not be good places to flee to either.
Starkravingmad7@reddit
They're not going to kick you out if you're a citizen of that country
TheDistantEnd@reddit

No consequences so long as you do it before Trump is inaugurated. Supposedly they will bring you back to the USA and imprison you 3 years for ever $100 you are delinquent in a max security federal prison.
PukaBazooka@reddit (OP)

toolsavvy@reddit

shujidev@reddit
If you can do it, then go ahead, but honestly, banks are very aware that many people engage in this. The approval of large new credits takes time, and they can check if you have other pending credit approvals. If you submit false information when ask about other credits then they would have the evidence so be careful about that.
Correct_Stay_6948@reddit
Take every loan you can, the bigger and shadier the better, doesn't matter if it has a 4,000% interest rate. Then turn that loan into cash, and export it to your bank in your new living area.
Use your credit cards to buy shit that you can easily take to wherever you're going so long as it has value there; crypto is a good option. (Paypal link your credit cards to buy crypto, put it in a wallet with physical keys, save 3 copies in USB drives for redundant security.)
