DDR5 Speed with Ryzen 5 7600X on AORUS B650

Hello everyone, I have a Ryzen 5 7600X mounted on an AORUS B650 motherboard, and I wanted to clarify something. I've been reading various sources online, including the official AMD website, and they all mention the same thing: using more than two DDR5 sticks may result in them running at a reduced speed, often around 3600 MHz. AMD specifically recommends using dual-channel memory for optimal performance and maximum speeds.
However, today I installed three DDR5 sticks (all rated at 5600 MT/s, but running at 4800 MT/s by default), and I noticed in Task Manager that all three sticks are running at their full 5600 MT/s speed. Is this normal? Could Task Manager be showing the speed for the dual-channel configuration and not accounting for the third stick?
I’d appreciate it if someone with more experience could let me know if this is expected behavior. Should I expect the memory to be running in dual-channel mode for two sticks and single-channel for the third, or is this showing something different than expected?

no they will not drop below base ddr5 jedec specs, which starts at 4800mts. where did you even read that?

you could check here its amd official website it say: Max Memory Speed2x1RDDR5-52002x2RDDR5-52004x1RDDR5-36004x2RDDR5-3600

theres more website i look at that i dont remmeber but must of them say that was a bad idea use 3 stick or even 4 because that decrese performance and speed that is what im asking. because i would like to know if my third stick going to run slower or how its work because checking the task manager it showing the high speed the memory can reach.

the more sticks and capacity you add, the less likely it's gonna be stable. what you see is the minimum that is the absolute that's promised to work.
any docp profile will push beyond that and isn't listed because xmp/docp are technically OVERclocking.

If it works, then it's fine. You're correct that the single stick will be running in single channel mode, so not as fast as if it had a 4th stick in the other slot. Depending on what you use the PC for and the total quantity of RAM, the third stick may not be providing much if any benefit, though.

The reason I installed a third memory stick was because I needed more capacity, as I was running out of RAM. Since I had access to a third stick, I decided to install it. Of course, before doing that, I read up on how it might affect performance, and most of what I found said it was a bad idea that performance would drop and that with three sticks, the CPU wouldn't be able to access the memory at its maximum speed. After testing, I noticed in task manager that the speed hadn’t changed and was still at 5600. This made me wonder if maybe task manager is only showing the speed of the dual channel configuration, and perhaps the third stick is running slower, or if all three sticks are actually running at 5600.

It should all be running the same, 5600 speed. Install HWINFO and check the memory tab for more details. If you're happy with the system's performance, it's fine. It makes much less of an impact on performance with DDR5 now anyways.

Ddr5-5600 ram runs at 5600 with a single stick installed. The same went for ddr4. The dual channel just means the CPU can access two channels at once and isn't indicative of transfer speed.

congrats, glad 5600 is working for you. as you said, that's not the norm. if you experience crashing, it may be because your RAM isnt so stable after all
