Concern of The Influx of Foreign Pilots in America

I hope this is not a hate speech.
There are a ton of international students who have graduated from the part 141 school or college that offers 3 years of OPT programs(work permit). They are usually hired in that same or other school as flight instructors. Then, they also extend their educational career to get another three-year working period(traditionally done while doing a CFI job). Skywest and AW are hiring those types of foreigners. I don't know if they asked for contracts for them. Cape Air is famous for those people for hiring them and offering green cards. I worry about this situation because it's killing opportunities for American pilots. Is there any association or facility that monitors or maintains this? Legally, it may be fine, but work-ethically, it is not.

What an entitled attitude. You are not owed ANYTHING in this industry.
hawker1172@reddit
In general a country that cares about it’s own citizens should prioritize economic opportunities for its own citizens over foreigners.
Note this doesn’t have to do with immigration. Immigrants can become citizens but otherwise they are foreigners.
__joel_t@reddit
What?
So the government shouldn't let non-citizen foreigners "take jobs" from citizens, but it's totally fine if the government went ahead and just made them all citizens first?
hawker1172@reddit
No they become citizens overtime through the established process. No one owes them anything. I
__joel_t@reddit
But the "established process" can change, and in fact, has changed dramatically through time. There's nothing inherent about the current process of becoming a citizen.
Also, how are they supposed to survive here while going "through the established process" if they can't work?
hawker1172@reddit
Not saying they shouldn’t be allowed to work. Just that we don’t need to be creating “back door” pathways to move here and work here as an airline pilot in a highly competitive industry where our citizens can’t get jobs.
More than welcome to train or work but before we make special accommodations for them to move here specifically for highly competitive jobs why dont we take care of our own people first?
trillhoosier@reddit
Bring that issue up with private business owners then. Non-citizens aren’t hiring themselves; And no one is taking your job as it was never entitled to you in the first place.
SpaceMarine33@reddit
Not sure how it’s entitlement to have a concern. Jesus Christ lol
trillhoosier@reddit
Because the concern is rooted in thinking a job needs to be doled out in a way you see as fairer than the present system - given to US citizens first, aka given to you or people like you, simply on the basis you were lucky enough to be born here not necessarily on merit or ability.
SpaceMarine33@reddit
So what’s the point of being a sovereign nation if you don’t put your people first? Whats the point of you serving the country if they dont give a shit about you? Lol
WorkingOnPPL@reddit
If I were an Indian student pilot studying in the US I think my goal would be to try to get a flying job in India… From what I understand, Indian pilots are very well paid over there relative to the rest of the population. You have 1 billion people, 90% have never been on a plane before, in a rapidly developing economy…That is one hell of a demographic tailwind for a 40 year flying career.
SpaceMarine33@reddit
Yeah, but they want to move and poop in public places and side walks while hating our culture. Lol I mean.. take a trip to Canada
LonguesSurMer@reddit
If the FAA finds them able and competent to fly and perform the duties of a pilot, I find zero problem with it. Aviation is all about your ability, not your background.
SpaceMarine33@reddit
Yet, the government wants to create jobs for its citizens… they are doing the opposite. IMO they shouldn’t let them work if we have a surplus of pilots qualified here that are citizens.
LonguesSurMer@reddit
They are private enterprises. They are legally entitled to hire whomever they please in accordance with applicable regulations. The government cannot, without regulatory change, intervene with that right.
I have my personal reservations and beliefs about the social responsibility of corporations for their country, but I can only accept the reality and advocate for change.
SpaceMarine33@reddit
Agreed
Neptune502@reddit
The State should dictate who Companies can hire? That sounds like Communism /s
SpaceMarine33@reddit
So communism is for helping its own CITIZENS succeed? ? What? lol
Neptune502@reddit
Big Government telling Companies what they can do is according to the Right *checks notebook" Communism..
SpaceMarine33@reddit
Ok Mr Switzerland
Neptune502@reddit
Oh, i love when People think they know what they are talking about but don't have a Clue..
In 2023, 3,019,000 people or 40% of the permanent resident population aged 15 and over had a migration background
BeeDubba@reddit
Except in this case, it's all about your background (green card) and not your abilities. There are plenty of pilots fighting for every job right now. I see no reason why employers need additional avenues to hire lower-paid employees.
I honestly haven't informed myself about visa-based pilot employment, but based on current hiring trends additional job seekers are not needed in the pilot industry.
LonguesSurMer@reddit
It seems to be a race to the bottom in terms of pay, and I fear for the long term health of the industry with trends of awful & predatory contracts, as well as masses of subpar debt-laden pilots pushed through a mill and being released out into the airspace. But I’m powerless to stop an airline from hiring bottom cheap labor and subpar quality pilots if they so choose.
SpaceMarine33@reddit
Don’t care down vote me, Citizens shouldn’t have to compete against non citizens. Simple. 🤷🏻♂️
sell_out69@reddit
Too late, I already got ur CJO. -non citizen US permanent resident legally here
SpaceMarine33@reddit
Oof
trillhoosier@reddit
Take that up with the private employer then, not the non-citizen. They don’t hire themselves lol.
SpaceMarine33@reddit
No that’s valid lol I’m just saying. I wish we could put gifs so I can add the south park took our jooobs
Neptune502@reddit
Sounds on par for someone who thinks calling someone "Jewish looking" a Roast 💀
SpaceMarine33@reddit
lol

Aviation industry in general is very restricted and conservative about hiring foreign pilots. They can't hire foreign pilots to bring down 'costs' or replace any citizens to make their lives easier. And even when they start hiring foreign pilots, it will be common USCIS audit item and often frowned upon to unions or pliot associations. Airlines will and must hire citizens first and then fill gaps if they have any to foreigners. If they rejected you that doesn't mean you were replaced. Rather that usually means you couldn't meet their bare minimum standards.
x4457@reddit
You’re drastically overstating the frequency of this occurrence. This isn’t a real problem.
Apprehensive-Care924@reddit (OP)
It is a concern, not a problem. It's like a difference between hazard and risk.
x4457@reddit
Okay, sure.
This isn’t a real concern.
Ok-Party4424@reddit
I’m a green card pilot, I’m qualified,I don’t know what I did that make you think your superior than me but fuck you
Neptune502@reddit
Why isn't fine work-ethically wise?
Apprehensive-Care924@reddit (OP)
Companies can relieve their stress by hiring foreigners. For example, they can hold foreign pilots long-term by offering a visa/green card, while domestic pilots want to upgrade their careers. This will lead those type feeder 91 or 135 companies to have enough human resources with foreigners at a cheaper expense. Domestic pilots will lose job opportunities, and their salary will not increase.
Neptune502@reddit
I would love to see some Sources for the "cheaper Expense" Claim..
ypk_jpk@reddit
KDVT here in Phoenix always has tons of foreign kids learning to fly. Usually they come here, learn, and head back home. Sometimes they stay, sometimes they land on the roads around Deer Valley and Falcon Field, and sometimes they hit buildings (Falcon field)

“I hope this is not a hate speech” and follows it with a fucked up post lmao. I guess so it begins, those four years will suck
SaltyGrapefruits@reddit
Yeah, that escalated quickly.
