Placeholder GPU while waiting for next gen GPU

I am building a new gaming PC AM5 build with a Ryzen 9800x3D
I've heard it might make sense to wait for the next gen GPU's to drop before investing in a GPU for the build. What is a cheap placeholder GPU in the $300 CAD range give or take a bit that I can pick up to get the PC up and running.

Should people wait ? I thought the next gen of Nvidia were overpriced and underpowered, judging by the comments when they were announced, but Im a layman

I've heard a few people online say it might be worth waiting to see if older models go on sale.

Some you tube channels are saying to wait to see the new GPU options but also that older models might come up for sale.

We don't know anything about the new gpus

Maybe it was just unconfirmed leaks

Do you want to play games at all, or just get it running. You could just use the igpu out of the motherboard if you just want it up and running. For $300 CAD you're not going to get enough GPU to play much of anything, especially at 1440p or above.
Maybe look on the used market.

Does 9800x3D have an igpu? I thought it doesn't.

It does. 2 cores so its basically video output only, but it is there.

Oh I didn't realize it did. I assumed it didn't from what I had read a while ago. But I haven't looked at recent specs.

Use Xcloud or Nvidia Gforce Now until the new gpu are available.

Double your budget and you can get a gpu that will be sustainable for years to come
