Windows updates manager recommendations

All, I’m looking to replace wsus as our windows update manager. What package would you recommend and can you give me an idea of what it would cost? This is for a higher ed environment.
I don’t need something that does everything just something that works, can be configured without much hassle, can be easily integrated into an existing environment, has sound configuration options and reporting capabilities. Essentially what Veeam is to backups.

Action1 is very solid.

We thank you for that u/Asylum_Admin , and you can use our patch management solution for OS and third party, for free on 100 endpoints, forever, fully featured.
So you do not have to race a trial, or guess what features would do if you could turn them on, etc.. Signup and go in like 5 minutes. Decide if its right for your needs by just using it.
With that you get scripting & automation, roll your own patches/software if we do not have it, remote access, and as far as reporting, we have canned reports, but infinite extensibility though simple powershell data sources, if you can script it, you can report on it. And we do vulnerability management as part of all that too.
If anyone, would like to know anything, about Action1, just let me know.

Gene, what is your pricing like?
GeneMoody-Action1@reddit
I am not sales, and I know no one likes to hear that, but there are protocols in all companies.
The reason I can come here and interact effectively and openly is because I am explicitly NOT sales.
Past the fact we are free for the first 100 endpoints, fully featured and not time limited. I cannot do any pricing because it is highly varied based on count, org type, and other factors.
I *can* have someone from sales reach out to you if you would like, if so just DM me your Action1 user name, and I will get it in someones hands who can get you any and all information you need.
If you are not yet an Action user, you can send me an email or other preferred contact as well.
I can however help you in any other way, and if I can just let me know.

You basically want an RMM, which unfortunately there is no clear veeam like solution imo. There are a bunch of different options you can Google about but demo and trial each one before committing. Each one is going to probably be lacking in some way or another no matter what the price point. Some are super comprehensive but a monster to handle. Honestly I would look at SaaS solution, since you want it simple. Also I will say every solution has had barebones reporting and nothing that gives me what's relevant to me.
The one I've worked with is managed engine, which I think actually offers just the patch module. It's cheaper but you get what you pay for, it can be a little jank nonetheless it gets the job done. Also all support is India based
You can expect to go from 10-100$ per machine depending on how many modules you get.
RMM is in a weird spot for me since a lot of what they do patching and deploying stuff is done by Microsoft first party tools like Intune. Which is included in the cost in a lot of 365 licenses. So basically if you use 365 use Microsoft tools if not there is no perfect solution from what I've seen.

Automate has been pretty stress free for our patching.
Do you have a current RMM? I'd be surprised if there were any today that didn't have a patching aspect built in to it already or have compatible options.

Expand your scope to include 3rd party patches, especially interpreters like PDF readers and browsers (group policy for browsers), and Office.
Whatever gets through your mail filter will probably detonate in Office.
