Renters insurance

Finally a multi engine pilot, so I’m getting new renters insurance. The school I’m renting from requires 50k hull which seems to be around $800/yr, not including another ~$300/yr for the 1,000,000/100,000 liability. Is this what it’s gotta cost or am I looking in the wrong places? The school I previously rented singles from didn’t require hull and I was paying less than $100 per year. I’m not really enthusiastic about paying 10x more if there are better options out there.

what plane are you renting? $50,000 is pretty low

No, that’s what it is and I’d be glad you have it
Surprised you were able to find a policy as a low time multi pilot. Back when I was a full time instructor a decade and a half ago, I knew some guys in the same situation that they couldn’t get underwritten for multi renters insurance without some xxx number of time in type and multi time.
Theres a whole new amount of risk with a twin, not only for the obvious, but you are now on retracts.I insurers know people gear up singles so they will certainly gear up a twin for twice the damage costs when the props hit the ground.

Curious is the policy you’re getting to cover you to rent twins? This is why a lot of places won’t rent their twins without a MEI onboard since it’s so hard to insure.
For reference I have the same policy limits for ASEL only and pay 450 a year as a PPL/IR. So while it is a high policy, it’s not bad if it covers you in a twin.
