Looking for advice/assistance with visa to France process.

Hi all - My partner (French citizen) and I (US citizen) recently decided that we want to move to France in mid-2025. We are currently trying to get assistance from VFS Global for my visa application process, but thought I could post this here as well and see what might be helpful. We are engaged and have planned our wedding to be in France in the fall of 2025. We were told that it would be easier to get married in the country you plan to stay in, but now we are wondering if it would be better to get married here first and then apply for my visa? My only viable option for visas are long-term stay or spousal visa as I am a social worker and not likely to get a work visa or student visa. Looking for real options on next steps based on lived experiences or professional expertise. I understand every case is unique, but hoping to get some clarity from people who have been there before. Thanks all!

It’s probably easier to get married in the US and register it at the French consulate.

Thank you for your reply. Would you be willing to share why you believe this way would be the better option? Also, I feel the need to explain to you or anyone reading this that I know the timing of this post is poor given the US election just happened. Please know my partner and I made this decision back in February and it is not us trying to get away. We know and are mentally prepared for the challenges to come.

It’s notoriously hard for Americans to prove they’re unmarried abroad.
