Those are more associated with earthquakes and eruptions closer to the water surface, not at the tip of stratovolcanoes like this one (which does this fairly frequently).
Also, tsunamis aren't really dangerous in deep water. Only when the energy hits the shallows water goes vertical.
Was sailing at night by Montserrat on the way to the BVI , was a new moon and cloudy, so very dark, it took us a moment to understand that the enormous rumbling sound was an eruption…we ubderstood it when we saw red in the sky, it was lava rushing down to the sea…this is exactly why we had decided to lose a couple of dails by sailing the rougher Windward side…
