car will go in the unit , just to keep it secure and protected , is it ok? council property and the unit will go on the driveway front garden. 2.6m heigh 5m long 3m wide

People aren't allowed bike sheds in their front garden without permission - let alone garages.
Agreeable_Fig_3713@reddit
What? I’ve got two in the front. And a caravan.

Like others have said you'll be subject to planning restrictions but it's probably also specifically covered in the restrictive covenants of your house.
Informal_Drawing@reddit
You could always get planning permission.
MurderBeans@reddit
Not without planning permission.
V65Pilot@reddit
Put wheels on it, now it's a trailer. Problem solved. Guy where I used to live had about a dozen trailers scattered around the neighbourhood with cars on them.
Eoin_McLove@reddit
Guy in my city was found to have been living in a shipping container ‘house’ on private land for decades. Council planning department demanded he tear it down.
So my guess would be no, but the only people who can answer definitively would be your local council.
ClaphamOmnibusDriver@reddit
Almost certainly not without planning permission.
Safe_Freedom_1683@reddit (OP)
as its temporary i thought you didnt need planning permission , so i cant have any sort of garage on the drive?>
TheDisapprovingBrit@reddit
You can park a wagon there and stick ramps up to it.
MurderBeans@reddit
Temporary means just that though, I assume you want to use it for more than 28 days.
Safe_Freedom_1683@reddit (OP)
I thought temporary just meant I’m going to take it down eventually , not like a brick building
MurderBeans@reddit
The rules are quite clear.

Safe_Freedom_1683@reddit (OP)
15sqm, so if it was 14sqm its allowed?
ClaphamOmnibusDriver@reddit
Not for front gardens.
Safe_Freedom_1683@reddit (OP)
i cant see where it says this
ClaphamOmnibusDriver@reddit
https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2015/596/schedule/2/part/1/crossheading/class-e-buildings-etc-incidental-to-the-enjoyment-of-a-dwellinghouse
Basically, if it's in front of the house, it can't be permitted development under Class E.
MurderBeans@reddit
There are other requirements, you should ask your local planning office rather than some randos on the internet.
ClaphamOmnibusDriver@reddit
I can confirm the other poster, it just means 28 days.
ElectricalPick9813@reddit
No ‘almost’ about it.
AndAnotherThingHere@reddit
Your car should be waterproof, so why not just use a steering lock as extra security?
boomerberg@reddit
There’s a temporary car garage like a giant tent that would be fine. Even if you got told to take it down it’s not going to be much hassle.
Safe_Freedom_1683@reddit (OP)
thanks for the idea, sounds alright , just dont really wanna go thru with it if chances are im gonna have to take it down ( what do i do with the garage when i have to get rid!)
boomerberg@reddit
Yeah that’s fair. You might get lucky and find a lock up garage somewhere. You mentioned council property, do they have a register of garages/is that something you could apply for. Whereabouts are you? There might be a local public sector organisation that rents out spare space - I got a unit for cheap that way.
No_Manager_3534@reddit
I think there are companies that rent containers out to out in you’re garden! I know off one in someone’s front garden not far away from my house, it’s been there years but is only a 8 foot cabin maybe you’d have larger?
Most the time I think of you get on well with neighbours and it isn’t blocking anyone’s views, sunlight etc and curtain twitchers that haven’t got anything bette to do you should be fine.
Safe_Freedom_1683@reddit (OP)
rent seems terrible value as id want to keep this container for 5years or so, neighbours are fine but i suppose 1 report and its plan ruined.
No_Manager_3534@reddit
So apparently if you are not having a permanent power or utility supply and it doesn’t cover more than half the area if you’re garden it’s fine!
The only thing I would then be mindful off is that it’s a council property as it’s also states it has to be private property! Again would of be a problem if you had a inspection or a snake in the grass!!
Final_Flounder9849@reddit
Maybe something like this would be ok as it’s clearly a temporary structure.

ClaphamOmnibusDriver@reddit
Makes no difference.
Final_Flounder9849@reddit
I was thinking of the joy that it would bring to the local kids as they tried to burst it…
MurderBeans@reddit
Fine but you get to use it for less than a month if it's 'temporary'.
