How does the first day go (Amazon Warehouse Job UK)?
Posted by Sian_21@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 32 comments
Hi,
I start my first day tomorrow at an Amazon warehouse, just wanted to know if anyone knows how the process goes? Will it be a full day of training? The shifts I’ve picked are Sun-Wed 12-8:30 so will my first day be like that?
Thankss

Amazon Manager here!
You’ll do safety training on a device Then safety training in person Then a site tour Then some process training
secretstothegravy@reddit
Then it’s 3 mins for lunch and 45 seconds for a wazz before you have to pick 365 items a minute or you don’t come back for day 2 right?
Ok-Leopard5240@reddit
Nah man you have to piss in a bottle and drink it for lunch.
cloche_du_fromage@reddit
You have to drink someone else's bottle. It promotes team building.

As long as it doesn't have razor blades in it I'll be fine.

😭😭😂😂😂 I would say that’s not accurate

Most of the day is spent getting you prepared
Sustainable_Twat@reddit
The first day is easy.
The next 8 months when you’re worked like mule isn’t so easy.

Yes most Amazon jobs are donkey work.

not trying to be there long term just need some quick money
iliketitsandasss@reddit
Lots of training and lots of chaos. Be prepared to be worked to exhaustion every single moment.

My cousin did it so I know a little.
Do your health and safety stuff, shown what to do etc. Then you're basically put on your station for work. Manager will come in a check on you frequently to see how you're doing.
Their position was doing picking (getting products and putting them into a tray). Same station for 10 hours, one 45 - 60 min break. The product shelves come to you. Then you just have to get it off. Lots of bending and climbing up ladder to reach top shelves etc.
Repetitive, mostly standing in same spot all night. My cousin hated it. And ended up getting fired for a failed drug test lmao. So be careful about those, they happen randomly.
....
Sortation areas, like unpacking trucks, sorting boxes, etc will be more walking around. Some people have posted videos online of their days

You should probably find an amazon warehouse sub for better responses

tried to find one but they’re mostly Americans 😭

First day for us was half sitting in a room filling in forms and then half on the shop floor training. It'll be different for fulfillment centres, sort centres and delivery centres I imagine. Get some decent gel insoles and thick socks for inpreparation when you start working. It'll help with being on your feet all day.
Sian_21@reddit (OP)
Thanks guys, will defo get some gel insoles
Jlaw118@reddit
I didn’t work at Amazon but for another warehouse and I’ll second the gel insole suggestion. I remember my first week in a warehouse job about seven years ago my feet were in agony and wish somebody would have advised that.
Doesn’t help that safety boots barely let any air in to let your feet breathe
