Our neighbor gave me one of these (or something like it) for my birthday when I was a kid. It had a spelling bee mode, and that’s how I learned to spell really well.

Got one for my kid he liked it. Only thing that sucks is the keyboard layout

That thing was supposed to teach you to spell. All it taught me that you don't have to speak clearly in life.
I couldn't understand a word that computer voice was saying.

Yes!
These things didn’t sugarcoat it when you got the incorrect answer. I can still hear: “Wrong, try again” (said with withering disappointment) and “EHHHHHH WRONG!”

Man, I wish I had one of these now. I know so many bad words than I did when I did have one.

This was the best gift I have ever received for Christmas. It made me very good at spelling and it probably positively influenced my reading skills at that age. I wish someone had also given me a Speak n Math!

A picture I can hear!

Fuck I hated that thing.
Probably not a shock I became and ~~Enger~~ ~~enginre~~ ~~engenerre~~ I'm good at math!
The problem was I had a lot of teachers in my family who pounded into me that I had to be able to spell to be successful in life. Took me a while to figure out that wasn't necessarily true.

We had Encarta in the school library and it would play out loud every word in the Dictionary. I learned Booby was a bird that year.
