Before anyone ever coined "squad goals" or "me and the boys", we were chanting "lardass"

Still one of the best Stephen King adaptations.

The Body (Stand by Me), Shawshank Redemption, and Apt Pupil were all in the same book. That guy was one FIRE for such a long time.

Seemed to go downhill after getting hit by the van, IMO. Almost like he realized his mortality and started rushing to get all the ideas out of his head instead of putting in the craftsmanship from before. Or maybe my interests changed?
FockersJustSleeping@reddit (OP)
Yeah, I mean, he's a person so I think all of that could be true. I didn't really fall out of love until The Dome. Something about that book felt undercooked the whole time?
When I was a kid I couldn't get enough of him. King and Matheson was about all I read for years. Green Mile is still an absolute masterpiece to me, and a great movie. Same screen writer as Shawshank, I think.

Stand by Me is one of my all time favorite movies...I have purposely never read the story because I don't want it to be one of those cases where "the book is better than the movie".
_MistyDawn@reddit
If you change your mind, it's both worth the read and yet doesn't diminish the movie in the slightest.

Stephen King said he loves the movie, and cried while watching it. Source

From the racks and stacks, it's the best on wax...

I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?
That one line never fails to hit me in the feels.

The women in the audience screamed. Bossman Bob Cormier took one look at Bill Travis and barfed on Principal Wiggins. Principal Wiggins barfed on the lumberjack that was sitting next to him. Mayor Grundy barfed on his wife's tits! But when the smell hit the crowd, that's when Lardass' plan really started to work. Girlfriends barfed on boyfriends. Kids barfed on their parents. A fat lady barfed in her purse. The Donnelley twins barfed on each other, and the Women's Auxiliary barfed all over the Benevolent Order of Antelopes. And Lardass just sat back and enjoyed what he'd created-a complete and total barf-o-rama!

Watching this scene as a 7 year old boy in 1987 was transcendent.

I rewatched this last night! Such a great movie!
taita2004@reddit
I watched it again for the millionth time this weekend. Stand by Me and The Goonies are two of my all time favorite movies...so Corey Feldman must be one of the greatest actors of our generation.
Heynowstopityou@reddit
Lol I watched Goonies again Monday night!! Corey was a great actor from the get go!! So was River Phoenix- we lost a good one way too soon!!
dufflebag7@reddit
Just want to chime in - both of you have amazing tastes. Combined, I have watched these two movies at least 200 times. RIP River Phoenix. His performance in Stand By Me was incredible. Totally believable as the poor “troublemaker” who nobody believed in, yet had a heart of gold. To me though, he will always be young Indiana Jones.
Heynowstopityou@reddit
I couldn't agree more! He was the perfect choice to play Chris in Stand By Me! I totally forgot he was young Indy!!
taita2004@reddit
That's for sure...but it is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.

So true!!

I feel like movies used to be mostly quotes. I don't know if that's nostalgia or they were actually better written.

FockersJustSleeping@reddit (OP)
THAT line always hit me right in the face, because it's such a lame comeback, and it's EXACTLY the kind of thing I would have tried to say when I was that age. It feels like that particular part of the movie is aimed directly at me.
taita2004@reddit
Kind of like "I know you are, but what am I"...with the response being "good question...what are you?" Such a lame comeback in retrospect, but it was awesome when we were kids.
