I really don't know how I feel about seeing this called a dance album.
I have a personal connection to this album partly because of the place I was in when I first listened to it, and partly because of the emotional journey this album takes you on.
The end of that album with the title track, God moving over the face of the waters, and then "when it's cold I'd like to die" is an incredibly melancholic, and cathartic ending to an emotional roller coaster of an album.
It's an amazing work of art.

I mean you could dance to my two favourite songs on the album (when it’s cold I’d like to die, and god moving over the face of the waters) but you’d be dancing very slowly.

Where were you when I was lonesome op
Prossdog@reddit
I don’t listen to techno, but I do go back and revisit this album from time to time. It’s really good.
Lazy_Match724@reddit
Nobody listens to Techno
tuftedear@reddit (OP)
If you knew anything about electronic music then you'd know Moby is not techno.

I think it was just a joke about Eminem’s lyric
stylomat@reddit
didn’t he get stomped by obie?

And then got dunked on for being... checks notes...36?! THIRTY FUCKING SIX?!

And a fag, blow me. Not sure if that was a dis or request, your choice

apparently he was too slow reaching for his revolver
...and probably wrote an essay about it that no one read.

I believe we labeled everything Electronica back in those days. It was found in the back of FYE with "World" music

If u dancing to moby… u doing it wrong.
SpudGun312@reddit
Jeez. I used to own a cd that had a load of remixes on this album. It was awesome until somebody nicked it.

Apropos of nothing: when this album came out, Natalie Portman was 13 years old.
capthazelwoodsflask@reddit
The two of them didn't meet until she was over 18. Yeah, he came off as creepy saying they dated when she was 20 and he was 33 but you're really reaching here.
hbi2k@reddit
33/2 = 16.5
16.5 + 7 = 23.5
23.5 > 20
Sorry dude, that's just science.
capthazelwoodsflask@reddit
Except she, Natalie Portman, said that they didn't meet until she was 18. Believe whatever you want but I'll trust the people involved.
hbi2k@reddit
I never said that they met before that. I said that, according to the Standard Creepiness Rule, Moby's a creep. That's just science.

I worked at used record stores throughout a bunch of the '90s & into the '00s. Bewteen this album & R.E.M.'s Monster, I could probably build a mansion with the number of copies that passed through my hands.
Purely based on quantiity. I think if I had to sell them all, I'd actually end up owing a lot of money.
CinnamonLoyalty@reddit
Trying to check it out, and I was like "Damn" that dude has a lot of albums. Definitely checking it. Thanks for sharing.

I’m proud that I was obsessed with Moby before Play. It might be my only pop-culture claim to fame.
peggysue_82@reddit
I used to listen to him on a local indie station. I would try and get my mom to listen to him, I knew she would love him. But she hated that station. When play came out, she acted like she discovered him. Lol
AdHistorical5703@reddit
This is a pop record influenced by dance music.
