I found a huge preying mantis last week on a trailer tire I was about to take. I had one of those heebie-jeebies moments when as I grabbed it off it grabbed me. I ended up flinging the thing off somewhere.
That makes sense. I didn't pre trip the day I obliterated a deer on 76 in PA after he ran across 4 open lanes at 6 am on Memorial Day when nobody else was on the road. If I did pre trip, I might have found the deer antler in my in my radiator causing a massive leak beforehand.
I work road construction and forestry and have saved my share of these guys plus toads, garter and brown snakes, as well as box turtles from getting squished.
I’m impressed that you even stuck your head in there to take a look-see. Good on you, driver. It might not have happened yet but some day you’re gonna be really glad you did a pre trip because you’re sure to find something that would’ve caused you considerable grief if you hadn’t found it.
I am now inspecting my tires. This is an original tire, and it is part of my tractor’s drive axle. They have a minimum 4/32nd tread depth. The tire wall is not bubbled, damaged, or cut. It is the right size and type for my vehicle. The bolts are secured, there is no rust, or missing parts, and the rim is not cracked, broken or welded. It has a fuzzy wuzzy, and he is snug securely in between the tr- SWEET JESUS SOMEBODY SAVE HIM!

That looks like a gypsy moth, we used to kill them to save trees in the early 80’s
