Anyone here went from driving to working with DOT?

What’re the requirements to join the scale houses? Is it worth switching over to the dark side?

I mean, I work for state DOT. It's maintenance though, not enforcement.

Considering the sheer amount of trucks in my area that oos violations, absolutely. Not to mention the drivers probably don't have a license either.

The closest thing I have to working for DOT is hauling their vehicles, and I really am considering one day cracking a can of tuna and stashing it somewhere.

I had my CDL with many years of trucking behind me. I was finishing College and was relying on unemployment for the last few months. But you had to apply to two jobs a week and so I applied to companies I know wouldn’t hire me as they had enough drivers. I applied to a State job as a commercial vehicle inspector not expecting a response. Bad pay and bad moral. Anyway I got called in for an interview and was asked “Why do you want to be an inspector?”. Off the top of my head “To wreak vengeance on those who have wronged me in the trucking industry”. Actually I’m surprised they didn’t offer me the job.
