I rather drive slow, 2 of my co workers turned their truck over speeding on the curves on our routes and those curves are famous because there have been I kid you not like 20 trucks from different companies that have turned their trucks over on those curves. The 2 of my co workers both turned their trucks within 3 months of each other smh it’s an automatic fired from the company.

Ask the dead driver today. He was driving a chipper truck down the very curvy step 58 in Oregon. He went completely off the road just before Oakridge. There's barely a decline. Saw them pull the tractor out. The engine/ can was severed by a fallen tree in the ditch. It wasn't even adverse conditions. Ticket just thought he knew the road better than the laws of physics did. There are two seasons on 58 in Washington; fire and ice.

Just know when and where to do it like anything else, get a feel for it and eas into it with your head on a swivel. Only reason I got caught was because it was an undercover pick up truck in a small town I’ve never heard of.

Erroenous. The cop gave you a basic/generic speeding ticket, ie. he was cool. Confirmed by the fact that your ticket doesn't have your actual speed, your speed is not written at all, or the officer cited you for, again, a more basic penal violation.

Laws differ state to state. For example:

In Arizona, excessive speeding is a class 3 misdemeanor offense, and is defined in A.R.S. § 28-701.02:

Exceeding the speed limit by more than 20 miles per hour in a business or residential area

Exceeding 35 miles per hour when approaching a school crossing

Exceeding 85 miles per hour in other locations, such as highways and freeways

That's always blown my mind on people who speed in construction zones. That is not a ticket I want to get. I'll let ya'll be the bear bait. Though it gets really frustrating when there is the speed limit signs up, but not even a cone for miles. I'm never sure if I should just maintain the work zone speed or go the normal posted speed. As for other zones, I get the reason why drivers speed. It's all incentives. We're paid by the mile or load generally. However, we have a limited amount of time to drive and work a day. That time limit puts a cap on our maximum earnings. Theoretically, I could make $421.85 tops a day. That's driving every second of my 11 at 65 mph the whole time (I'm governed). That never happens. Realistically, I probably average 550-600 miles a day. That puts me at $324.50-354 a day. With milage pay, we're incentivised to speed. Every slowdown, traffic jam, stop light/sign, and shop visit is a loss in pay. If a posted speed limit is less than my maximum, I lose money by following it. That is why I believe that we need to go to hourly or salary pay. With the ELDs, our time is tracked to the second. If the FMCSA ever gets its way and implements speed limiters on all trucks, every milage and percentage paid driver is getting a pay cut. Having to watch that clock already encourages far too many drivers to take risks in order to get those miles. Minimizing incentives to speed and drive dangerously will help safety on the road. Who wants the soap box next?

Most CMV operators are compensated by the mile. Your incentive is to speed. You pay piece work to increase speed. Drivers are overwhelming paid piece work. As soon as "safety" is encouraged, as much as speed is, people will get compensated in the proper way. Until then, it's all lip service.

You get a feel for where you can speed depending on time of day and traffic you take your hints from local traffic if everyone is doing the speed limit I know there are usually cops writing tickets. Also I have had 2 tickets in my career all for going 10+mph over the limit I paid a local lawyer and they are both dismissed and off my record they cost me about 1100$ each but that’s why I keep 3k in the bank at all times for lawyers and if I need to quit my current job I can pay for a hotel long enough to find a new one

I don’t know man. I’ve been driving for years and 98% of construction zones at night are just 12 miles of one lane closed off with no equipment on the road or if there is equipment it’s on the grass median. I’m not advocating for speeding in a construction zone I’m saying it’s ridiculous to not go the posted limit especially when humans are not on the road. If you can handle going 55 just because it’s one lane you should not have our license. The only time I see equipment in the lane that’s blocked off is for bridges and even still it’s never past the cones so there’s nothing to hit unless you somehow lost the ability to stay in your lane.
