Gah, I’m relieved and so excited!
I’ve been anxious about this day for a long time.
On to instrument!

Out of curiosity, how long was the oral portion of your check? And what about the in flight portion? I’m a ways out for mine. I’m at like 10 hours of dual so I’m still pretty new, but I’m just trying to gauge what the oral and check ride will encompass

So I’m at a 141 and they’re an examining authority. So basically we have check airmen who are standardized by the FSDO, and an in-house DPE.
That being said, your experience may be a little different than mine, but my oral was about 3 hours.
Curious-Owl6098@reddit
3 hours is a long time lol. My entire checkride was just under 4 hours haha

Thanks! I’m at a part 61. 3 hours sounds about right. I’ve heard both sides of that too. Anything more seems exhausting though

It goes by quickly honestly.
Especially when you’re working through a scenario that the examiner gives you, it can take a decent chunk of time!

Good point! Ive watched several mock orals on YouTube, and they tend to be one to one and a half hours. But of course, it’s not a real exam with DPE. Those have been useful for me to understand what I’m working towards and how it all comes together

Congrats!! 🍾
I just had a mock oral today instead of a flight because of the Santa Ana winds and felt pretty good! I’m looking at mine in December 😬

Congrats! Remember the learning has just begun, play it safe so you can become an old pilot.

Congratulations, and good luck with instrument! Any takeaways from your first checkride?
N70968@reddit
Yay! Congrats! Who is your first real passenger going to be?
Mr_Dr_Prof_Jordan@reddit (OP)
I promised my mom it was going to be her! My parents have put me through flight training, and my mom has had a tough year, but she gets so much joy out of watching me on flightradar24 when I go up.
Definitely owe it to her to be my first passenger!
