6.5 Grendel recommendations

For those that have a 6.5 Grendel where did yall get your parts/uppers? I know PSA has some, everyone’s favorite BCA has them and a website called Grendel Hunter makes them too. Just looking at options for a future build

I have a PSA complete upper I bought in college with the intention of upgrading the barrel when I graduated.
It shoots about 1.5 MOA with the Hornady Custom box loads. I have hand loads that will shoot .5-.75 MOA. I haven’t upgraded the barrel yet.
I’ve shot mine out to 1000 yards. It’s a great deer and smaller round inside 300-400 yards depending on barrel length. Outside of that most rounds won’t have enough velocity to expand.
I’ve never had a hard time finding Hornady ammo, other brands have been hit or miss. AAC has started making it for about 60 percent of what Hornady is selling it for. It’s a great round to reload for as well.

Alexander Arms no doubt. I have several of their uppers and all have preformed extremely well. My Overwatch is my favorite upper I have and keeps extremely tight groups

Ok right on that’s like maybe the third time someone has mentioned Alexander Arms so I’ll definitely check them out

I built mine. Odin works barrel, Wilson combat upper and handguard, Odin works bolt, spikes lower with b5 furniture and timney trigger. It’s a lot more fun to build it

Never built an upper but I’ve built 2 lower receivers. Had a couple buddies tell me they don’t recommend building an upper cause “it’s difficult” but after watching a bunch of videos and what have you doesn’t look that bad. Planning to try it one day lol

If I may, stop now. I went on this journey.
The ammo can be hard to find, and it’s expensive.
Barrels & GCGs… can be hard to find & expensive.
Grendel demands a scope (otherwise why are you even wanting the caliber?): added cost & expensive.
Suppressing the round is just… meh. No better than 5.56, and very VERY few dedicated cans for that caliber.
Really ask yourself why you want it, and what your use is going to be. I promise there are better options for almost every aspect of this round.
If you insist though… get whatever you prefer for an upper receiver, handgaurd, charging handle and all… it’s strictly your BCG & Barrel. You should get at least an 18” barrel, anyone going under 16” for this round should just go 300 BLK in my opinion.
I honestly just went with Faxon for both barrel and BCG. Mainly because of availability & cost. Also because of ease & assurance for of proper head spacing between Type 1 & Type 2.

Yea I know ammo can be hard to find but I also heard it has gotten a lil easier than it was a couple years ago.
Not surprised reliable barrels and bcg’s or bolt faces are hard to find since the caliber seems to still try to gain more popularity.
Definitely knew this caliber needs a good scope due to its ability to shoot long range beautifully. Purpose of the build was going to hunting deer, hogs and yotes. Yes I have a ar10 on n 308 but I flirted with the idea of 6.5 G for a long time. Be a fun gun to own.
All in all I do appreciate your input!

Thanks for calling me out being THAT GUY!
…I absolutely was. Apologies.
Agree all around on your points, and they were all what set me on the path of gaining a Grendel! 😂
I leaned heavily on that Snipers Hide forum for parts suggestions. I really did just default to Faxon to simply get the damn thing completed. I enjoyed it while I had it, but it then just really created the itch for getting into long range shooting.
One last recommendation:
E-lander Mags

2nd E-Landers. Only mags I found reliable. Don't fill to the max, leave 1 out and they'll feed better. Just my experience, not sure if it will help anyone.

BIL built a 6.5 Grendel off of a ballistic advantage barrel, aero, strike industries, Timney, and some misc parts. Shoots MOA with factory ammo, hasn’t had a hard time finding ammo, have had a hiccup with it getting knocked off zero somehow but it has been resolved (scope issue). Depending on what you want to do with it will determine if it’s a good choice or not

I was planning on mostly hunting like deer, hogs and yotes. I do have a .308 ar10 for that but I also flirted with the idea of 6.5 G for awhile. I heard ammo is still hard to find but not as bad as it was a couple years ago

He doesn’t seem to have problems finding ammo, another option to look into is the 6mm arc. It’s one of the new kids in the game that is showing to be worthy as of now
The_living_dead93@reddit (OP)
I’ve done a lil research on 6mm arc but not as much as of 6.5 G since it’s a newer caliber to me
