ULPT Request: Amazon wants me to provide government ID after making a legit return... HELP
I returned a couple items totalling ~$80 last month. Looking through my bank statement I noticed I never received credit for this return. Upon chatting with customer service, they said they need me to verify my ID and sent me an email with instructions to upload at least one government issued ID.
Now I've been using this Amazon account for almost four years, and have never provided my SSN, drivers license, or any other government ID to them. I also haven't done any sketchy stuff with my current account.
My problem is that I MIGHT have done some sketchy stuff 6-10 years ago under a different account/email/phone number/address where I MIGHT have provided a picture of my driver's license and SSN for an Amazon credit card. I'm only assuming I had to provide personal information to get approved for their credit card.
Has anyone been in a similar situation before?
Is it time to search for a novelty ID, or just come to terms that I'm not getting my $80 back?
Feel free to PM me if you'd rather not post.

probably eating the 80 bucks on this one if you don't wanna go the charge back route

The entire point to using Amazon is to take advantage of the return policy. If op eats the $80 then he or she may as well never use Amazon again because every return will be blocked without their ID being uploaded.
It’s better to chargeback and get the $80 then never be able to ship there again, than eat the $80 and never be able to return an item at Amazon - which is essentially never being able to shop there again.

Tell them to refund it or you will dispute with your CC

I would assume like every other retailer, if you dispute with your CC they'll just close your account. I'm looking for another solution, if there is one.
