It seems like a very minor upgrade. From the perspective of a pc gamer, if someone had an AMD gpu, I wouldn't really recommend them to upgrade to an nvidia gpu that's 30-40% faster just for DLSS and maybe RT.
The RT performance here is very minor and nowhere near the 2-3x that Sony mentioned.
Then again, console gamers don't have any actual choices here. If they have a big TV and are bothered by the noisy and unstable image quality, this is their only option.

I just don't see the market for it personally. Anecdotally, everyone I know who cares about graphics and is willing to spend >$500 on hardware already plays on PC and maybe has a base PS5 for exclusives.
TopdeckIsSkill@reddit
The target is really clear:
- You don't want a pc for whatever reason
- you care about graphic
- you have enough money
If all 3 are met then you're the target
M4K4SURO@reddit
Really only need 2 of the 3.
I already have a high end PC, and only have a PS5 for the exclusives, and for games I'd rather play on my TV.
tukatu0@reddit
You know you can just move your pc right. Connect a controller too.
So only the last condition matters
M4K4SURO@reddit
Yeah, I don't need to my my TV though, it's near my TV and I already do what you said. Perhaps you missed the part where I mentioned exclusives. I can't play Astrobot on my PC, for example.
tukatu0@reddit
Yeah but $800 for like 4 games? I hope we can atleast agree this is burning money territory
M4K4SURO@reddit
Yeah, sometimes I also want to play the games that will eventually be ported to PC earlier too, agreed it's burning money but if I got money to burn and it makes me happy then why not.
NycAlex@reddit
Dlss alone is worth every penny vs any amd garbage
Not amd’s fault tho, devs have been releasing games with upscaling in mjnd instead of optimizing their games
conquer69@reddit
Yes, DLSS is way better but I still don't know if that's worth paying $800 when some of the Pro enhanced games aren't using it and older games still have performance problems.
On PC, every game benefits from a hardware upgrade. Here, you still have games not getting to 60 fps. Plus a gpu like this would be $400 and you can sell your old one. The value isn't there for me.
fpsgamer89@reddit
They could sell their base PS5 too?
Dat_Boi_John@reddit
It is possible that games that release past this point are able to get better RT performance because of using the new RT hardware to it's full potential. For now all the current RT effects are optimized for the standard PS5's hardware. I guess time will tell.
NeroClaudius199907@reddit
Rockstar are really good at baking light dont think gta 6 will come with RT.
TeamSESHBones_@reddit
Minor ? My friend you need your eyes checked or a better display. Games like ff16 FF7 Rebirth dead space remake desperately need the pro.
Floturcocantsee@reddit
Lets be real here. The reason FF7 Rebirth looks like shit on PS5 base is because of the absolutely brain-dead system they use to upscale the lower internal resolution. Simply replacing the terrible TAA with the bilinear upscaling to FSR2 would've done wonders for the image clarity, hell they could've used TSR too if they updated the engine enough.
conquer69@reddit
I'm talking about the PS5 Pro. Not all games are receiving the PISSER upgrade and of those that do, it's not as good as DLSS is on PC. It's causing issues in some games.
NeroClaudius199907@reddit
What can we infer from rt uplift to rdna4?
tukatu0@reddit
10% less strain.
Though in reality you are going to have to wait a few years to tell smh. Otherwise you are judging with silent hill 2.... Or was it alan wake 2 that turned on hardware rt? Eh idk.
ThaSipah@reddit
I don't have a console, so I'm looking forward to buying one for GTA 6.
Kotschcus_Domesticus@reddit
so just get base ps5 or series x.
Andynath@reddit
Interesting speculation about the display controller still being 32Gbps but adding support for Display Stream Compression(DSC).
Game boost works pretty well with unpatched games, Elden Ring in quality mode is now in upper 50 fps, inside VRR window but still not a locked 60.
Unlocked framerate games seem to show 30%-35% boost in GPU limited scenarios. Games with dynamic resolution see higher average resolution and performance but some games don't utilise fully the increased horsepower, possibly CPU limited. They mention that the CPU clocks can be increased by about 10% if the dev choses so. CP77 and Baldurs Gate 3 are better in CPU limited settings.
Unlocked VRR modes benefit from the extra GPU power. GT7 without pro patch achieves a locked 120FPS in its native 4K VRR mode!
Some decent Ray Tracing improvements but no game changing implementations.
PSSR impresses in most games but 2-3 implementations have issues. Dragons Dogma 2 has issue with GI, AW 2 has added noise but great RT reflections)
They speculate that it may have a process node shrink as power draw is only 20-30W higher than their slim PS5.
loozerr@reddit
There's 8K TVs without DSC support?
MissionInfluence123@reddit
N4?
In some of the disassembly videos the die didn't look that much bigger than regular N6 PS5.
TeamSESHBones_@reddit
After playing the absolute shit show that was ff 16 in performance mode I beg to differ
Radiant-Fly9738@reddit
Thanks for saving my time :)

My Sony Bravia A95K will love the ps5 pro when it arrives tomorrow
