Liver pate is quite common in banh mi in Vietnam. Even small sellers on the street offer it. Probably due in part to the fa t that banh mi's origins are French.
Did the Sylvan Tavern ever square up the tips the owned the staff/bartenders? There were a few weeks there where the owners didn’t order a thing so the bartenders were left serving any beers they could find.
Oh lord, not a surprise. I’ve been to Bryan Avenue Tavern. I had a good time. The waitress checked up on us often, and the food came out quick. It was good bar food that wasn’t overpriced.
I went to Sylvan Avenue Tavern once this past year and had a completely different experience. I needed to kill time while I waited for a friend in the area, so I went to this place. I walked through the front on a weekday evening and took a seat at the bar. The were two bartenders. One had just clocked out, and one bartender that would not acknowledge me. She would look around the bar then quickly glance over me. I was never able to make eye contact with this lady, and she wasn’t having a bad day as she was smiling and chatting it up with what I assume are regular patrons then providing ok service to everyone else. When she started acknowledging customers arriving after me, I knew something was off. This went on for about 15-20 minutes. Finally the other bartender comes to ask if I had ordered, I respond no but he says sorry, I just clocked out and walks away. He comes back again later, I give him the same response. He looks annoyed but at least sympathetic so he places the order. When the one drink I ordered comes out, the female bartender looks confused and asks the other guy who is it for. He points to me and she proceed to drop it off without saying a word.
Obviously I could have left but my intentions were to kill time and I liked the divey sports bar vibe. When I told my friend about it, he mentioned a similar experience and stated that’s why our group never goes there despite it being so close to our usual hangout spots.
Aw I loved Jettison but it was too far of a drive from Plano to visit often so I had no idea it closed. Sad to see because their bartenders were great.
Went to Sylvan Avenue Tavern. The article says it has above average food but I didn't find that to be the case. They also sell domestic light beer for more than $5 which is ridiculous
Not terribly surprising even though most of the restaurants in there were/are pretty good. It and Trinity Groves seemingly have had the exact same issues with ownership.

Honestly not surprised. The places that are still open are great though. Except the banh mi spot, which doesn’t have pâté? Like…how?

Banh mi for the whites, by the whites.

Not really arguing about the food, but the owner is from Thailand (with Chinese parents).

Jettison is temporarily closed because the bartenders took jobs elsewhere. George is at Le PasSage now. Not sure where Jovanny went.

Good to know! I’m sure they will take time to find suitable replacements. Those two were very professional and I was always happy to see them.

You are correct. Ten ramen isn’t like how it used to be anymore

Damn, that's actually tragic. The tavern had the best GF pizzas around

And Shayna’s Place was… awful.

Cooper’s Meat Market had some amazing burgers. I bought a ribeye from the butcher & it was about the best steak I’ve ever grilled myself :/
